Figured that would be obvious considering how making it available to everyone would defeat the purpose. That said, everyone can use the portable tent which is nice. Campfire stories stack and apparently don't get interrupted in caves (likely will be fixed eventually) so have fun there, but just add this to the list of sanity things that Walter does better than Maxwell - a once, literal God... He apparently cannot adopt any other pet which is actually a nice touch. Woby be jealous! :D There are some nuances with Walter obviously, some of which I simply did not wish to spoil cause they may be among the best that he has to offer and discovering them yourselves will be a breath of fresh air. To provide some hints however, perhaps eating some pink stuff and examining particular, fiery and or beaver-ery characters could be fun. As for how I feel about him overall, at least initially, is that he is a beginner friendly character, a support and easy-mode engaged all around - we all guessed that one back when we first heard about him. I am all for something like that and I am happy to see many taking to him already, that said I still feel like he is all over the place. His perks are thrown together, the ones that should feel natural (the ones connected to his scouting background) don't and the sanity thing is random, far reaching and just doesn't fit well - it's like they forced it all. I wholeheartedly believe that they could've made him a beginner friendly character while maintaining his theme of being a scout with survivalist training all the while just giving him an affinity to ranged combat. I have details and have shared them before obviously however if folk want me to take him and darn near completely alter him with my ideas then perhaps I can make another discussion video - let me know. For now, enjoy him - even if he is way too easy for some of us out here. My only concern is that eventually he will get easy for most and then be left in the dust by the rest of the crew. Not only that, easy characters lose their appeal quickly once the initial hype wears down... I hope not and we shall see cause I do enjoy him and Woby, I think they can fit. They just need some tweaks... perhaps more than some but what have you. That slingshot ammo though, the potential is pretty high.

I think I see what they were going for with this one. I love the don't starve series, but I'm absolute garbage at it. He might be klei's rendition of easy mode for total scrubs like me, just like the mime is built in hard mode for veterans.
He doesn't seem like a survivalist because everyone is already used to being survivalists in-game already! The fact that he's over-equipped actually lends to the fact that he's a survivalist, prepared for danger from the very start!

How they can change walter to make him a lot better. Make it so he doesn't lose hunger faster when sleeping. Make his slingshot have longer range and make it faster. Or at least better damage. The last thing. I would also make it so his sanity will start draining after half health.
hey beard I want to add that when u go to sleep in a portable tent as walter you can sleep in the darkness. I once skiped a full night this way. idk if it's a bug but u literally sleep in the the dark and still regain health and sanity.

He seems WAAAY overpowered to me. Things I would change: 1: Slingshot should have durability, and not very much of it (it is made from one twig after all!). If it sometimes broke unexpectedly that would add some risk to using it. 2: The slingshot could have a range mechanic where you have a better chance of hitting the closer the target is to you and worse chance the further away they are. It seems very overpowered currently, so having a chance of missing your target would help even this out. 3: I would like Woby more if he was used more as a scout dog, like you could tell him to "train" him to search for/fetch food (and maybe even fight for you?) by giving him monster meat or other foods. 4: Woby should not be able to turn into a trained Beefalo, at least not so easily. Maybe only during a full moon? 5. Sanity loss would make more sense if it was less than other players but not 0. And perhaps he could gain extra sanity from being around the campfire? I like the idea of tying sanity loss to health though, I think that should stay.
He is amazing for a person like me because when I play with friends most of the time I stay behind and help with other stuff while they kite the big bads. (Like Winona's Catapults and Etc) Its because I am really bad at kiting, anyways now I can stay behind and shoot them.
I always had a lot of sanity issues with Webber, then I switched to Winona, did a little better, and now holy shit I need to play as Walter. I’ll never have sanity issues. Also the ranged shit? I suck at kiting, so hell yeah I’ll do great.

I have confermed that the more walters you have. At one time if more than one walter tells a story at the fire it WILL STACK of you dont believe me test it out. Im not sure if it stacks higher than two

Ehh, the head wear element could kind of be a pain early game for some players or if you're messing around too much; can't underestimate that early garland.
But that's the thing, when playing him you need to not mess around - his entire idea promotes not doing so. Therefore, once you train yourself not to do so, the mechanic becomes meaningless therefore it isn't needed regardless. This character is a loop and will phase out quickly.
I mean, practically every sanity restoration mechanic is still available to him so it's whatever you choose. Getting his sanity up shouldn't be an issue as long as you train yourself to plan for it now.
A good perk that would fit in with his "scoutness" would be an increased map discovery. Let him see farther than the rest, map out more area in fewer steps. Make him an actual scout. Just an idea.

If Walter is immune to darkness sanity loss then shouldn't Wendy who's comfortable in darkness gain small sanity at night? Or around ghosts? I dunno I'm with you on doesn't feel right.
Personally, I wish that he has his sanity also tied to naughtiness. It would contribute to the character, and be a good way to introduce the mechanic to new players. IDK.
What I found interesting about Woby was she follows you as a ghost (I’m not sure if this is a glitch or not) so I kinda guess it’s neat following your friends as a ghost for a short time to give them a Chester
So I guess he was looking for a were beaver (unaware that it was Woodie) and went to his house. I guess that's also how Woodie got taken to the constant; he turned on the radio and got sucked in. That's just what I think though Also, I'm glad I now have use for marble since I don't use it for anything much

Walter's short finally gives me the WOODIE LORE I so badly wanted! Also, I see myself playing a lot of Walter, he's very support focused and that's my kind of gameplay.

walter doesnt even know that the things around him are dangerous so he doesnt care, maxwell on the otherhand knows all about just how deadly the things around him are and that he can do near as much as he once could
If Walter is immune to darkness sanity loss then shouldn't Wendy who's comfortable in darkness gain small sanity at night? Or around ghosts? I dunno I'm with you on doesn't feel right.
The whole character feels more and more "off" the more I think about him.

I really like this character, I specifically like it when he tells stories, it’s great. This is one of my personal favorite characters in a while.
As long as you enjoy him that is all that matters.
Considering Walter is free, I am absolutely okay with how he turned out. My expectations were pretty low

Personally, I wish that he has his sanity also tied to naughtiness. It would contribute to the character, and be a good way to introduce the mechanic to new players. IDK.

What I found interesting about Woby was she follows you as a ghost (I’m not sure if this is a glitch or not) so I kinda guess it’s neat following your friends as a ghost for a short time to give them a Chester

its cuz walter is the leader so he follows him Chesters leader is the eye bone not us
And I found out if you put the eyebone in Wobby you basically have a train following you everywhere uppon death
So I guess he was looking for a were beaver (unaware that it was Woodie) and went to his house. I guess that's also how Woodie got taken to the constant; he turned on the radio and got sucked in. That's just what I think though
Also, I'm glad I now have use for marble since I don't use it for anything much

I love the character a lot, his design and some of his mechanics really make him adorable.
According to his sanity mechanics, I guess he doesn't get any kind of sanity drain while wearing dark armor or dark sword right ?
