Same here. I wasn't sure, but after seeing this I think I can confirm it's low porosity. I have a mix of 2c and 3a and I am going to start looking for wavy products because they're formulated to be lighter weight. Instead of heavy oils and butters they have polyquats which are a miracle for my hair.
Girl please do full length UA-cam video we have the same hair type and I’m piecing together your shorts but would love like a full routine explained. 😊
Google "curlsbot" and they have a section in their menu for low porosity hair where they have a huge list of products and details on what ingredients to look out for.
I use a shower cap on and off throughout and after my showers for everything except scalp pre-treatments and shampoo. The heat from my head trapped by the shower cap opens the hair cuticle and allows product to penetrate and soak in. It’s changed the game for me, especially with leave-in products! That in combination with sleeping with a satin bonnet and my hair is healthier than ever!!!
It's not the product entirely, it's that you need to fully saturate your hair with water to ensure the product is able to get absorbed. If you have low porosity, you just need to spend extra time and splitting your hair into sections and I promise it will work much better
This is only true if your hair is thick! If your hair is fine and low porosity, no amount of time in water will prevent it from being coated and weighed down by most products.
YOU HAVE GIVEN ME MY PERFECT SUMMER PRODUCTS FOR MY FRIZZY WAVY HAIR. I dreamed of having soft bouncy waves without the frizz for sooo long and could never understand why nothing worked. The first time i saw your video I just knew you had what I needed. Now when your video popped up again, since its been about 6-8 months since Ive last seen your videos and me trying out your recommended products for low porosity hair, im like “thats how my hair looks like now” No more needing to look for hair products and waste money!! Thank you.
So interesting. I have low porosity hair (I suspect) and because it’s fine, the heavy stuff looks and behaves less optimally, surprisingly. Goes to show how important the whole picture is. Your hair is so beautiful. 😍
I wish there were more videos like this for all hair types. I have fine but straight hair however it takes a really long time to dry once it's been washed.
I have high porosity hair but also very fine hair strands. This makes it so that heavier products don't work for me either bc they both weigh the hair down and contain too much moisture for my thin strands. I've always found that frequent washing (to prevent build-up) lightweight leav-ins and tailoring my routine to include the fewest products possible is best for my hair type. Washing with a botanical shampoo and leaving my conditioner in for at least 5 min also helps a lot
Damn. I was wondering why I always seemed to need to do a clarifying shampoo more often than other people. I have to section my hair in the shower to make sure either actually gets wet, otherwise is just resists. Good to know...thank you 😂
Thank you for this video 😭. My whole life makes sense now. My hair is thick and takes a long time to get wet as well as dry. And it also does the same thing of product clumping up!
I’m low porosity with 4c hair. Works for me. Your hair’s texture is different. Shay Moisture works very well with kinky hair. That’s why they have the ingredients you mentioned. Great on corse kinky hair.
The way you explained this so simply! I have long ago given up on the natural hair community cos I just couldn't grasp all the concepts but THIS made sense to me. Thank you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
OHMYGOD I finally found someone with my hair type. The issues you mentioned I have experienced constantly. Those sheamoisture products simply don't work for my hair.... it takes forever to dry, at least 20 mins with the blowdryer and at least 2 days air drying.
i have high porosity hair but it is very fine (meaning the individual strands are very thin) and i also struggle a lot with my hair being weighed down by products. so if you have that problem but not some of the other ones then chances are you also have fine hair. another sign of fine hair is small flyaways or “frizzy” hair. you’re also pretty much guaranteed to have high porosity hair if you frequently dye (permanent dye) or bleach your hair
this explains a lot, so many times when i think i’ve gotten my hair thoroughly wet i’ll still be finding dry spots… gonna keep this info in mind! definitely don’t regret swapping to head and shoulders shampoo now lol
That makes so much sense for me.. I always see people with curly hair having these issues, but I have extremely straight hair, so I thought I was just unlucky or something.
Porosities are changeable, too. That’s the reason why if your hair is a normal porosity, you need to watch how much and what products you use. If you over moisturize/have too much protein, it turns into high porosity.
I've seen a few of your shorts and I relate to your experience of not knowing your hair was actually wavy! I even have the same porosity!! I would love a full video to explain more about what specific products you use, how to properly care for this hair type and how to use a diffuser 🤣🙏🙏 Pls would greatly appreciate it!
remember this is for your natural hair. if your hair has been treated with chemicals (harsh permanent dyes, bleaching, perms, etc.) your hair is now damaged or dead and thus the porosity has changed!! a lot of damaged hair has very high porosity because it's so *thirsty*, so dont be fooled!
WHY DONT THEY TEACH THIS IN SCHOOL like you have no idea how long I've struggled with my hair and this video pinpointed my problem. I'm seriously grateful, like, this is insane. I need to find better products, I been using shea for so long and getting like a "waxy coat" and now I know why
Have you tried shea moisture low porosity weightless shampoo and conditioner? I’ve been using it for the past year and it works for my low porosity hair. My hair feels softer and my scalp doesn’t get greasy as fast
I have extremely straight hair thats extremely resistant to any kind of heat or product but every other descriptor is a total match for what I’m experiencing I will give it a try, thank you!
I had really healthy hair growing up when I'd clarify often, wash daily, and use just a little spray heat protectant + leave-in. I had no idea what porosity was then but now know that I have low porosity hair. I tried going a more natural approach and the heavy product and build up caused me a lot of hair issues. Moral of the story is to learn your porosity and take care according to that and not what strangers do.
Well said! I only just learned about my hair being low porosity and Shea Moisture doesn’t really work for my hair too. 😢 But Camille Rose, especially the Curl Maker works very well!
Regularly clarifying my hair (like… way more than any of the curly or wavy hair routine girlies suggest) makes my hair so much nicer. The build up happens so fast and then I’m a grease machine.
As a curly girl maybe try adding water to the Shea moisture deep moisturizing detangler. Rake it through your hair and put oil on the ends to lock in moisture!
Easiest way to test. take a strand of hair and put it in a glass of water. If it floats you have high porosity hair. If it sinks all the way or almost all the way down. You have high porosity. If it partially sinks you have medium porosity hair. Hope that helps
I use shea moisture low porosity weightless hydrating shampoo and conditioner and it has really helped me with making sure I get moisture on my ends and a clean scalp. I can’t use all shea moisture products Because most are just too heavy for me but the low porosity shea moisture is good !
When I colour my hair, I will use a demi-perm. colour, with a between a 7-10vol developer (usually, my hair will be wet, as well as I’ll throw in a small splash of water, with the 10vol, before I mix it in). This helps create a slight bit of porosity, in the cuticle - allowing for products to penetrate, more effectively, with minimal damage to hair or natural curls. If anything, it helps enhance my curls, because it allows for them to be more effectively hydrated. I switch my hair over to a lower volume, pretty much a no-lift developer - and noticed my curls weren’t as great. Also, I’ll double layer the colour - with an overtone of the same color, using a semi-permanent. That way, it really packs it on, and fades out nicer. I am blonde, and do this with copper. However, if someone wants their natural colour, though, still wants to create a bit of porosity, without a lot of maintenance/noticeable outgrowth - colour-matching is super easy, to do.
I think one way to judge porosity is to dip your hair strands in water: highly porous hair with down while less porous hair will float for a long time.
I can't use most products because of this. My hair stylist realized and buys me shampoo and conditioner that's meant for this, I pay her for it of course. I also need dry shampoo, but I have to get a specific type too
Omg I’m gonna subscribe to you right now, I’ve been on a haircare journey since 2019, that’s when I started using Shea moisture and by 2020 I had a bald spot in the left side of my scalp from Shea moisture making my hair fall out and making me have dry yellow flakes. Since I stopped using it I no longer have those dry yellow flakes (I still have dandruff but it’s more white and not as severe as before)and my hair no longer falls out like that. But the bald spots still there. The only reason I started using their products was bc it was promoted as good for thick curly hair, but problem is I have thick wavy hair, so even now that I started using professional hair products instead that are supposed to be good for thick hair, they just stick on top of my hair and the products don’t absorb into my hair so they don’t work and just make my hair sticky. Lol sorry for long comment but it’s so frustrating all my life family (even to this day and I’m 25 now)and when I used to be a kid at school people would make fun of my frizzy natural wavy hair saying that I didn’t make an effort with my hair, when I literally spent so much time and money on my hair. So thank you for making this channel bc I have a feeling your haircare routine and product recommendations will work for me and I remember watching another of your yt shorts where you showed what your hair used to look like and that’s how mine looks now, so i have a positive feeling about this🙌🙏
Heat is your friend if you have low porosity hair! (No, not stylers or blow drying!) My curl stylist taught me to wrap my head in a hot towel when I'm using a deep conditioner. The heat causes the hair follicle to open up a bit, giving products a better chance of being absorbed! My hair is looking and feeling a lot better since I started this! ❤

Coconut oil works great on me. I use the regular blue Parachute coconut oil (not the one on which it's written hair oil.. but the old one, the one on which it's written that it's edible). I have been using that for more than 2 decades and my hair is good. For winter I change my oil to some other oil and then back to coconut when the weather gets warm enough for oil to not freeze on head. Almost twice a year I use mehendi mix with sth (nowadays it's awla and hair becomes very soft with that). It does get greasy so I have to wash every 3 days and in summer it gets rough due to sweat as it doesn't dry fast but even after everything it's quite low maintenance and remains healthy so I am grateful for that. Also I have very straight hair and as I grow older I realize it's like winning lottery bcz I used to love curls but I have learnt in past few years how high maintenance curls are.
My hair is curly like youre when I use the correct products, I absolutely love it. If I want an easier time with wanting wavy straigt hair I use specific shampoo thatll weigh it down. It all depends on my mood. Anyway point being we have best of both world 😂
I wish they mentioned porisity on hair product bottles
Absolutely. I've been searching for 1a low porosity hair products, but I am still bewildered.
Seriously
Agreed
I have to buy many products just to see which works for my hair
so is there no way to know? I think i'm just realizing I'm not sure if I ever used products for low porosity hair.
Sameee
🤯Me realizing why my hair is both dry and greasy. Will definitely be looking for more tips!

@@spirals73 shea moisture low porosity weightless shampoo and conditioner work for me and I also have low porosity hair 🙂
OH MY GOODNESS. I JUST DISCOVERED I HAVE LOW POROSITY HAIR WITH YOUR VIDEO. IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW THANK YOU 🥹
I believe Shea Moisture has a line specifically for low-porosity hair and says it on the packaging. And one for high porosity too!
i tried searching and it looks like that line was discontinued or really hard to find now.
Girl please do full length UA-cam video we have the same hair type and I’m piecing together your shorts but would love like a full routine explained. 😊
I second that petition, please
Yes please
Can you mention products you use for low prosity hair
This is the problem I have with these videos. They tell you what problems you have but no solution. What I mean by solution is products to use.
Google "curlsbot" and they have a section in their menu for low porosity hair where they have a huge list of products and details on what ingredients to look out for.

That’s helpful! Thank you!

This is the best video primer on low porosity hair I’ve seen in a long time! Well done!
I wish there were more videos like this for all hair types. I have fine but straight hair however it takes a really long time to dry once it's been washed.

Thank you! After years of trying things for my waves, I actually understand the difference in porosity. 🙏🏼 great explanation
This is one of the most helpful hair videos I have seen. Thank you!
This makes so much sense
I have learned a lot from your videos! Thank you!
This is why i double wash my hair (not every day!). It just works for me
It all 👏 makes 👏 sense !!! Thank you !!!
I’m low porosity with 4c hair. Works for me. Your hair’s texture is different. Shay Moisture works very well with kinky hair. That’s why they have the ingredients you mentioned. Great on corse kinky hair.
obviously she isnt talking ab kinky hair
She's not talking about 4 c hair
@@Crissy991yeah but it’s made for coarse hair that’s why is she saying it likely didn’t work for her …
@@Abishhhhhbut she's talking about low porosity that's what most people with kinky hair have hellooo

WHERE WAS THIS VIDEO WHEN I NEEDED IT😭😭😭
Girl, I have ultra low porosity hair and curl smith products are literally the only stuff my hair enjoys. It's pricey but well worth it
Well now I know I have low porosity hair, thank you for explaining it !
