So glad I didn't buy a Toyota - I would never have discovered your amazing channel Mike !! Looking forward to applying your method to my leaking adwest box. Cheers
I recently replaced the bottom seal lying under the car. I bought the drop arm removal tool, made the removal much easier. The seal only cost £2 but it took most of the day to remove the broken circlip holding it in. What fun.
Well Mike, you made that look easy. I too have done that job on my old '77 RRC with the steering box still on the car, difficult but do-able and it stopped the leak...
Mike I made the mistake of re sealing my adwest with the sh.tpart seals. 2 weeks after Reseal, the thing leaks worse than before. Following your advice with genuine or at least true OEM spec seals. I’ve learned for seals at least, it is false economy to cheap out.
Britpart seals for the power steering should have been thrown in the bin as soon as they were packed - OEM or genuine for me! HOWEVER The drop arm puller worked well!
Doing this under the car on the drive by torch light in winter is an absolute pig of a job, Britpart seal kit just carp & leaked, ended up doing it twice second time with box off like you’ve done much easier & with a quality seal kit you at least stand half a chance if shafts ok. Another great video that many owners will really appreciate & benefit from.
Mike. Like Abracadabara the musician with Mr. Jamiesons creating miracles ? 'Muriel from Malawi' has been fondled. Is cheaper Britpart tool just as good ! V.
Hi Mike, on replacing the steering drop arm ball joint recently I noticed the drop are is slightly loose on the bottom of the steering box, there is a slight play between the arm and shaft ! The nut and lock washer are in place and look ok. Is it worth trying a new arm or am I likely in for a replacement box too as they'll be worn together ?
The shaft and arm are on tapers, and should tighten up - the play could be between the selector shaft and the worm. You could adjust it out using the top nut and screw, however you do not want it too tight - proceed with caution! You could get to a point the steering will be too tight, and the wheel will not fly back to centre
@@BritannicaRestorations thanks I’ll have a try next time I’m under there, it’s minimal really only noticed it when the ball joint was disconnected, now it’s back together you can’t feel it 👍
don't drop drop arm off for my pleasure , but I am interested to see how you swear against drop arm not loosening ...or do you use double dunk on it , OK you is lucky , not seized by rust and not from original torque screw...
Mike , you really need to work on your you-tube ' car mechanic ' skills .. no 10 min intro , no plugging your Merch or Patreon , no $$$$ tool you've been sent you'll only use once .. no annoying music & only one camera angle , good grief it's almost like you're a real mechanic ... BTW thanks for all the info & tips
If school had teachers like you I would of paid attention😇👨🎓 thanks Mike 😊
Thanks Tom!
Just like removing the shaft seals out of an outboard gearbox. Well done mate

I think we have all done that once - seems a good idea at the time...
Well Mike, you made that look easy.

I don't think you are a Land Rover owner until you do this job!
@@BritannicaRestorations "this job" only one of the "many" of being a LandRover owner, lol...
again. laughing out loud here. "i used to be decisive, but now i'm not so sure...." damn mike, you're good!
lol!
Hi Mike I did this recently on my defender in situ its a bit messy but works fine
You certainly know how to build up suspense. Looking forward to Part 3. Good job Mike!

Yes it is a bugger of a job under the vehicle - far simpler to remove the box!
Just the video I needed!
Satisfying. 😎
Glad you think so!

The puller seemed to work ok but the nut was not very tight - I think someone has changed the drop arm in the past

Mike did you know you can replace that horrible drop arm with a Range Rover and get the ball joint where it should be, on the tie rod?
I managed to change the input shaft seal while the box was in the car. a bit tricky
Mike you are never beaten.thats why we arn't
Oh buy the way tell that man to scrap his skoda.you will know what i mean.
Anyways 👍
I demand a re-shoot!.....you obviously cheated with that drop arm......only other way that gets them off that quickly is an angle grinder :)
You need that Britpart tool Paul!
@@BritannicaRestorations too true mate! 😂
Hi Mike what size seal do you fit on the input shaft. Regards Richard
I didn't measure it - it was in the kit
Hi Mike many thanks, for the reply.
