I just love Poppy's energy when she starts to nerd out over potatoes. How can someone be as crazy as potatoes as me? And the crunch ASMR... I started drooling...🤤❤️
McDs UK recipe uses dehydrated potato for the mash. No onion and no eggs or beef so they can sell them to vegans too. Different recipes are used in different countries. The potatoes are steam peeled then cut and mixed with the other ingredients. Formed, frozen, then fried. Ingredients are: Potatoes, Non-Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Sunflower, Rapeseed, in varying amounts), Salt, Maize Flour, Dehydrated Potato, Dextrose, Stabiliser (Diphosphates), Black Pepper Extract. Prepared in the restaurant using non-hydrogenated vegetable oil. Many people believe that Heron foods sell McDs hash browns but the ones they sell are actually a slightly different recipe which includes nutmeg.
I've done something similar to this for years but boil the potatoes in batches so I can have some more under-cooked for the cubed/shredded parts. Since I hate breaking out the deep fryer too often, but it is the best method, I'll end up cooking a bunch of them at a time to about 80% done and then freeze them. Later, I can air fry a couple for breakfast.
I love a hash brown and I know you can buy frozen ones, I've never tried those. I only have them when I go out for a cafe breakfast. Looking forward to this video!
during covid, I was one of the vast numbers of people who perfected HBs - my preferred method was the yank grated tater method but this looks worth a go
Poppy, PLEASE do a grated version of hashbrowns! Here in the US, the hashbrowns from Micky D's 😉 are the same shape, but are, or at least look like they are, grated potato. P.S. Just an FYI... Russet refers to the type of potato, while Idaho refers to the location where it was harvested. The Idaho Potato Commission has a trademarked name for potatoes grown in Idaho, so only potatoes grown in Idaho, no matter which type (i.e., Yukon Gold, Red Potato, Russet, etc.), can legally be called Idaho potatoes. However, most potatoes labeled as Idaho potatoes are actually Russets. So an Idaho potato isn't a specific type, but a Russet potato is.
I have tried to recreate a particulate type of Potato Corn Dog. With your method looks lime I can now do it to it's final end and have a Potato Corn Dog to be proof of. A Rosti was the first hash brown but has been nurtured since. Poppy keep up the good work hun.
in the USA, Ore-Ida makes oven fries called Golden Crispers that are basically an extruded mashed potato, sounds kind of like your idea to cut your hashbrowns into chips. i love them but they are a bit weird, not really a french fry texture but something else that is good 😂
Hi Poppy, I noted you threw away the potato peelings. I save them and fry them until crispy, season with salt and a commercial taco seasoning powder. Very yummy.
Hi Poppy. You're Always My Favourite Chef Too. I Always Love All Your Videos. Very Awesome & Informative. Always 10 Out Of 10. Keep Up The Good Work Honey. I Love You Soo Much Poppy Babe.♥️♥️😘😘
Those are gorgeous. Your corn flour is corn starch here in US. Corn flour here is something you use to make tamales. Love your potato dishes but if you want to expand try white turnips. Can Poppy make turnips taste as lovely as potatoes? Or maybe potato and a friend (carrot) type dish. Hi from sunny Oregon US.
1) Where did you get your knife that you’re using? 2) Those look absolutely amazing. I recommend popcorn salt for seasoning them after they’ve been fried. It’s an incredible of flavor. I was glad to see you adding onions. I really love them in my hash browns and never make them without onions. 3) Here in the United States, where I live, they sell boxes of the type of hash brown that you’re referencing about in groups of about 20. That way if you don’t have time to make them, you can purchase them very inexpensively.
I'm New. I only came accross you just now. Loving your knowledge and your entertaining and funny representations Have you done Spanish Potato Omlett yet?
What we call corn starch in the USA, the UK calls corn flour. I think we have more varieties of corn meal/flour here in the Americas. Masa harina, etc.
@@kilroyscarnivalfl Makes sense. It can be hard to make US/Middle American recipes with corn flour here in Denmark, too, because you never know if you use the right one :) We do call corn starch corn starch, but potato starch is called potato flour, so no apparent logic there 🫤
Just add up to 50% leftover veg from Sunday roast to the mix. Or frozen stuff works. You just need the majority to be potatoes to stick everything together.
@@georgeprout42definitely fresh left over roast veg. The frozen ones have too high a water content and the end results whilst ok, just aren’t in the same league as using leftover fresh roasted veg. I love bubble and squeak. Each time I make it, it reminds me of my dad. He loved it. I swear he deliberately cooked too much veg on Sunday so there’d be even more bubble on Monday and Tuesday 🤣

Mashing the potatoes beforehand? Pretty rogue. But that’s what I expect with Poppy. I personally prefer my hash browns fully grated….but then I don’t have to deal with it. That’s the cafes problem.
