The Sheer, a Dutch pop/rock band, was formed in 2000 by four friends from a music school: Bart van Liemt (lead vocals, guitar), Jasper Geluk (keyboards, backing vocals), JanPeter Hoekstra (guitar, slide guitar, backing vocals), Jorn van der Putte (bass, backing vocals), and Gert-Jan Zegel (drums). Influenced by British pop and rock from the 1960s and the Britpop movement of the early 1990s, they developed a melodious pop/rock sound with a distinct British influence.
Their first demo, "The Sheer," released in 2001, led to the "Meet The Sheer Tour" and garnered positive reviews from music publications and exposure on regional and national radio. The band reached the finals of the "Popslag 2001" talent show on 3FM, ultimately finishing second after a vote recount.
The Sheer's debut album, "The Keyword Is Excitement!," produced by Daniel Presley, was released and included the successful single "Right Now." Their third single, "The Girl That Lost Her Mind," achieved commercial success, peaking at #40 on the Dutch Top 40. In 2004, the band was awarded the prestigious Zilveren Harp (Silver Harp) for their significant contribution and promise to Dutch pop culture.
Building on their early success, The Sheer continued to release music and perform, maintaining a steady presence in the Dutch music scene. Their distinctive sound, characterized by catchy melodies and British pop/rock influences, helped them sustain a dedicated fan base. Despite changes in the music industry, The Sheer adapted and persisted, contributing to various music projects and live performances.
