Going by Richey and Nicky's clothes, I think it might have been filmed backstage during their appearance on Terebi Kanagawa in Japan on 5 October 1993.
Yeah, James trained on the heavy bag, and went for runs. Boxing training. Richey trained more for aesthetic reasons. I don’t think he ran, and as he was a heavy smoker he wouldn’t really be in the best cardio shape. He just wanted to look good.
Oh our beloved Richey demonstrate his artistic drawing ability while waiting/killing time between interviews etc by drawing a cute cat, Welsh castle, a king (himself?) and gathering of adoring people below (?) in Japanese TV studio around 1993. He looks amusing himself in nice shape, his long eye rushes so beautiful though he was too modest. Not only a genius lyricist, mastermind, and competent rhythm guitarist by then. Nicky Wire and Japanese interpreter seem happy watching Richey making a masterpiece. Alas, If only the conversation was recorded, I could have make lough Japanese to English translation and it could have been so lovely. Richey was going to develop / worsen his mental health problems, but please understand they are medical issues and give all patients some respect and kindness. Richey was willing to take medical treatment and improved a lot. It was in 90s when psychological/mental health/psychiatric medicine were not advanced yet, and discrimination didn't help anyone suffering. His celebrity and stress caused it further still, resulted in his disappearance in 1995. We still live in hope once day we may meet him, as Nicky, friends and sister, and lot of fans of Manics do. Let's be positive and kind, in post COVID world as so many need little hopes and support one another. Richey and us needs beauty love and understanding in this cruel brutal world.
