    I have been playing guitar since age 14....I am 63. I own and have owned so many guitars I cannot remember. I have had and still do...1937 Gibson arch tops, 135, 335, and so on... Fenders..and so on. Epi's are awesome. I have 6 now. i feel so sorry for the man that blames the tool for his or hers failures.

    I swear, this guy's tone has got to be my favorite of all time.How does he even do it? There's so much personality. It's so fluid. You can tell its coming from his fingers and not his equipment, though his equipment does play a role.

    I've been on stage for 40 years. This guy and this music and this attitude is amazing. // Some people have a lot of money, they buy a lot of guitars. Then he brags about that. Some people are smart, they write a music book about what they don’t know. // And there is a lucky man who is a born musician, in whose hands all the guitars play beautifully, who is a man born for that. I learned a lot from you. Thanks. (Hungary, Europe)

    First, what a dreamy groove you have there, Gregor--sounds like 2:00 in the morning in NYC. Wow!
    I played a blonde Sheraton II at the music store earlier this week and I'm in love. It blows the Epi Dot away imo. A beautiful take on the 335 design.

  • @judahbmusic

    Bought it at Guitar Center, Hallandale Beach, Florida...September 2012. Cross referenced the Serial Number of my Model-which specified Manufactured in Korea. Also my Sheraton was ONE of TWO guitars that had a Made in Korea tag, as opposed to others in the store which were made in China...
    I must honestly confess, it has been appraised several times, and the workmanship, tone, feel, and appointments have been applauded..as mentioned above!

    The main difference is the neck design. Sheraton and other models have a laminated
    neck which is very strong, while the Dots are one piece with a rosewood cap. Most Epi
    necks are thin profile, but my natural finish Dot has got a monster neck on it. For around
    425$, this thing wails. It's going through a H&K Statesman Quad and JCM DSL 401.
    No effects! Hope this helps.

    @MyDreamside No. The pickups are completely different. The Sheraton II has humbuckers and the Casino has P90s.

    It's also interesting to note, this same Sheraton was on par with the ES 335, but with Gibson's influence as the "Mother Company" they have allowed it's branding and production consistency to falter..at times. Epiphone have fought to keep it's place even as a "sub brand" and have placed the Sheraton 2 and Joe Pass Emperor as their "top of the line" models. I now own this same Sheraton 2 VSB after A-B testing against the available in store ES 335, and with Classic 57 pups I'm extremely pleased.

  • @danakerman
    @danakerman 13 років тому

    @zoumero1 I"ve looked at both in the shops. The Sheraton is definitely the nicer guitar, but the differences are primarily cosmetic. The pickups, body-shape, and construction are identical on both. Neck profile on both is like a thickish '59. Fit and finish on the Sheraton is much nicer. F-holes on 335 Dot are ragged, on the Sheraton they are nicely bound. The one drawback is that all the neck binding makes the Sheraton a little more neck-heavy than the Dot. Sheraton is $100+ more

    Hahas no. I was just reinterpreting what you said and you are right. A lot of people play guitar with their hands rather than with their brains. They hands remember a bunch of licks through muscle memory but when it comes time to improvise licks, brainpower is required.

    i have Sheraton II and i`m not a great player, but when i was getting it i went to a guitar shop and tried many guitars including realy nice Gretch and vintage Gibsons that cost like 3-4 grand. The sound ,the feel and everything else about this guitar left me with no doubt that this is the instrument i was looking for and i still practice hard to live up to it, because i know that for now it by far exceedes my playing, non the less i adore the sound of it. Hope to play as good some day

    I wish epiphone made this particular model in a ES339 version. The appointments on this guitar are really nice. I used have this model,and it really sounds very nice without doing much of anything to it,other than a set-up.

  • @cmdtrk11

    Thanks! People need to stop obsessing about brands and prices, and just play their damn guitars, and then play them some more. These people are never going to be great players sitting on the internet bashing people and guitars!

  • @cmdtrk11
    @cmdtrk11 11 років тому +2

    I hear ya. So many people get too wrapped about the name on the headstock of the guitar. You look at any great guitar player, and they can make a $75.00 pawn shop special sound good. As long as you have a decent guitar and a good setup, you can make it sound good. To be honest, latter is the most important thing. A killer setup goes along way! I've played many high-end guitars that sound like crap because of bad setups! No point in arguing over brands, it's better just to pipe down and play it!

  • @ruxadams
    @ruxadams 10 років тому +1

    dude, you have to have some of the sickest pedals or recording setup because your tone is some of the best on the internet. ive played most of these guitars in your videos, and out of some decent tube amps I might add. something so rich about your tone. the gold sg that you played sounded amazing and I haven't been able to make an sg sound like that. keep it up man.

    I had the same guitar that this gentleman is playing. Unfortunately,I traded for a Fender Am.Spec. Strat,needless to say I was quite disappointed. I mean I know they are different animals,but I thought of the Fender thing. Boy was I mistaking. This guitar sounds wonderful with a little adjusting,I was able to coax many different sounds from it reminiscent of the 335,but at a fraction of the cost. The Seymour Duncan Seth Lover p/u's would be the best alternative to the stock p/u's

  • @EnvyInc

    @Anitrop The Sheraton had a Frequensator tailpiece, and the Sheraton II has a Tune-O-Matic/Stopbar combination. That's the only real, distinguishable difference.

    Willing to compromise on the "beating over their heads" issue, I wasn't there in the fifties, I just did a huge amount of research from many sources to understand the History of guitars over the past 100-120 years, and found Epi and Gibson were the top/popular brands for Hollow bodies. These two brands were also the first to release a thin line, electric semi hollow in the forms of the ES335 and Sheraton in the same year.

    Don't beat yourself up, I own plenty of guitars and get good discounts. A Gibson ES-335 is around $3000 while this Epi is about $700 I think. I just bought my First foreign made amp, a EVH 5150 III 50 watt and it kicks butt. I have plenty of other amps with great names but if the sound and build are good don't worry.

  • @sosmooth7

    I used to own this guitar,and I think that this is a good alternative to an ES335.It really sound good with the stock p/u's,and not to mention that its an actual beautiful guitar for around 700 bucks with a case. like all guitars you need to work with it to coax good sounds from it. On a scale of 1-10,I'd give it a 8.5

    I've got a Korean Sheraton I that's a killer guitar. It's the second one I've owned having to sell the first and regretting it immensely and immediately. I've played a lot of them and they seem consistently top quality. Don't know about the split coils with the Sheraton II's. The single coils on my Tele and Strat work just fine for me. Sheratons are just great guitars !! This dark mahogany brown Sheraton I will be with me 'til I die.

    i love my Sheraton. best 500 bucks ive ever spent on a guitar. its the poor mans 335. here's the secret: swap out the pickups for some Lollar Imperials, put in 500k pots and new electronics, and you've got a killer guitar.

    The Sheraton is a fine guitar! I just like the position markers gibson style, which the Epi Dot has. I used to have a Blues Jr., again that is a sweet little amp. The Sheraton + FBJR would make a killer blues / jazz rig. Go for it.

    If your concern is Headstock Name, and whether it's "American or not" then good for you. Gibson couldn't care less, as long as you buy from ONE of their companies, or else they would either LOWER their prices to accommodate more customers, or MOVE the Epiphone factory back to the USA. But it's cheaper for them, and there are trade agreements between USA and CHINA that has benefitted the USA more in this regard.

    I too own a Sheraton 2, VSB with Gibson 57's installed in them...The neck and feel of this guitar was better than the Es 335 they had to compare it too that day..I oved the gibson pickups but disliked the general feel and workmanship on the guitar, so I went Sheraton 2 that day...and it's Korean made, 2012 version. Excellent craftsmanship...as commented by a PRS and Fender dealer/luthier...Never judge a guitar by the headstock name...NEVER! Epiphones can deliver just as good and better than some

    In my experience, some “real" 335s sound great while many sound quite muddy-“dull" even. The Sheraton IIs are much more consistent and pretty much always sound clear, even in the rhythm pickup. I would rather spend $600 on a guitar with a less prestigious name but a clearer tone than $3,000 on a guitar with a more impressive name but a muddier tone.
