- I made Project Ace play this map yesterday but it's so cool I decided to make a video haha...
The map is onoken - Sagashi Mono (BMS Edit) mapped by Ayakura Mei. It's an old map from 2014, the biggest video I've seen from this is from Azer, in 2015 with 8k views.

The mapper for this map is a genius.
Literally all he's doing is imitating the BMS effect that literally every LR2 chart has.
holy moly I have never heard of BMS before, and I don't think most people do. So, hearing that map is actually a first for me. That is why I said "The mapper is a genius". Its because I (and I think most people) have never encountered a BMS Map before.
Your ignorance does not make for someone else's geniosity.. Having the hitsounds fill in the music was a fundamental part of most the VSRGs people grew up with such as Lunatic Rave, Beatmania IIDX and o2jam. All I'm saying is he's done nothing original here and only crossed over a feature that should be commonplace in any rhythm game.

FINALLY, I've had this map for a bit and I've wanted this map to get more love and shit because it's so creative like holy shit it's like a whole different song that sounds amazing
A Perticularly Drunk Bird I've known this since it came out and it still amazes me to play
Honestly the hitsounds being the song is cool but I found the patterns more interesting. This type of mapping style reminds me of Hollow Wings. Also for how they do it, it's pretty easy. You just need to put the hitsound files in the map folder with proper names to have custom hitsounds, mappers do that 99% of the time. But damn, this guy literally made the song better with hitsounds and although this isn't rankable, (hitsounds need to provide feedback) this is still a really cool map and deserves to be loved.

There's a map similar this style of hitsounding (keysounding to be more specific) which is called Felys (BMS Edit) which is also ranked.

Verbosity keysounding is rankable, don't get me wrong. I haven't played that map but in other maps that are keysounded it doesn't make the song sound like a different song with hitsounds and they're still playable with map hitsounds disabled. Keysounded maps are very controversial and although the concept is overall rankable, it takes a lot to get ranked. For example, wub maps are rankable but there are many loved or graveyarded since it doesn't meet the criteria.

This reminds me of the maps you would see in games like Lunatic Rave, O2Jam and DJMax (Guess it lends to the BMS Edit naming convention, since BMS maps often had keysounded and regular map varieties, from what I remember). Thanks for showcasing it. Super cool!
ProdCharles it s not the only map to place music on keysounds in osu, even if i only know one other map to do that
it s the opening of angel beats and it has a lot of difficulties, from 4k to 7k (osu!mania :x )
Neodymus yeah that's why I mentioned the part about BMS maps having normal and keysounded versions. I can see why you might be confused if you are familiar with all the games I mentioned. I was referring to BMS style files rather than the file type.

the way how this works is that you apply a hitsound for each sound that happens in the song. it's called keysounding (you can look up for the hitsounds in the folder). the issue is that it's a hella amount of work because you don't really have to only search for the hitsounds but you may also have to be able to interpretate and read note sheets in order to apply the correct sounds or if possible with another way. meaning that you have to create a green line for (almost) every object which is really time consuming while the amount of work is less appreciated sometimes. takes a lot of effort but it's definitely worth it c:
It's so weird that you are literally like making the song yourself, and the hitsounds are the rhythm guides, instead of the circles. In a way, this is what some other rhythm games have done too, reminding me of Guitar Hero where the guitar track is muted when you miss notes. This also gives you the experience of actually playing the song, instead of playing the map.
One cool thing to think about is that everyone will get a slightly different experience due to slightly different timings.

Kind of unrelated, but there's a whole game working on the principle of keysounding. It's called DJmax Ray, and the entirety of the game is keysounded. Just look it up on UA-cam or something, it's not on the store anymore (which is a real shame, I've had the game since 2013 and only last year discovered it was deleted from the store). It has in total 1'270 different maps, or 130 songs with 9 levels of difficulty each. Normal, Hard, and Max, with each 4L, 5L, and 6L (L for lines or keys). Overall, it's a really good game with really good gameplay, each and every difficulty is keysounded, which is really incredible.
As a veteran player of this game, I found the Sagashi Mono map really nostalgic, and it's good to see something keysounded on a rythm game. It's always exciting to feel like you're the one making the music you hear. Especially when you don't know how to read music sheets properly.
This is really sick. Looked more into the mapper's work and it turns out he has a really similar loved map with the same sort of thing already.

I'm not a pro mapper, but I know some things about mapping and I think that they made a custom skins with extra sets of beatmap sounds, like drum and silent, and gave each circle a different set to make different pitches and make this song. (These may not be the official terms, but you get the idea.)

Im not even surprised, I love the entire map, the song, the wallpaper and hitsounds, they are really soothing, but as a mania player, I've played a lot of maps composed of hit sounds.
this is pretty cool, i'll make a skin based around the hitsounds.
God tuning and importing, as well as timing all the individual sound effects must have been a nightmare.

I find this to be perfect. The moments you hit the circles make the song notes in which you can vary the speed of the song notes like slow or fast.

Okay so this is pretty interesting! I remember playing a couple of maps similar to these in osu!mania, and realized that most were either o2jam conversions. Back then I didn't really look more into it, but recently I got into rhythm games again thanks to Deemo and Voez, and I loved that all the songs in Deemo have piano keysonded hitsounds. TURNS OUT there's a whole huge and incredibly dedicated fanbase around Beatmania, which to my understanding is a series of rhythm games where *all* songs have hitsounds that *are* the music. There are yearly competitions of mappers who create amazing things like these (although that game is more similar to osu!mania) and the "(BMS edit)" in the title of this map gives away that it likely comes from that game too, since all maps for beatmania are in .bms format. I recommend looking that, and Lunatic Rave 2 up, it's fascinating
