If the light disappear then just try again, that just means the connect hadn't found a signal yet. The controller plays just like a regular SNES controller but you can assign any of the six attack buttons and the arcade START button to any of the 8 action buttons. My only gripe with this collection is that there's no option to assign 3P and 3K on the option menu since Alpha 1 & Alpha 2 super combos are lame without them and doing them by trying to press all 3P or all 3K often doesn't work accurately. A miss opportunity but not really a big deal. The controller is small though so if you had large hands you probably may want to use a regular Switch pro controller.
thank you for always mentioning the size of controllers! as someone with larger hands it is definitely a factor for me. using my switch can even be frustrating with its smaller size and buttons. keep bringing that up in reviews, i appreciate it!
Been looking for a good review of these for months, Rerez, you don't disappoint, I think I will definitely buy one of this for my retrogaming on the go...
Ive never had any other 8Bitdo controllers, but I love my SN30Pro. It works so well and feels really nice. I love taking it to friends houses and using it on their PCs, or on my phone.
I picked one of these up for my wife who loves Tetris on Switch but hates using the analog sticks to control it. I bought the purple button ones, though, because I think it's a better colour scheme and I love the concave buttons for X and Y. Don't hate me! LOL
This review is what convinced me to get one of these, and I’m so glad I did. It’s my favorite game controller for both my PC and Switch now. Holding this controller while playing games feels so...right.
I bought one myself. It is an amazing alternative to the switch pro controller. I actually bought it because i ran into some extra money and needed a 4th controller for my switch but didnt want to shell out 70 bucks for a pro controller. I saw this video and thought about it for a few days before buying one new for 45 bucks on amazon. I am extremely happy with my purchase.
How good is the gyro work for Switch? It's a small thing but very essential in certain game like Splatoon, SMO or Doom (personally, I use it so much on BotW too)
Hi folks, I bought that controller shortly after this convo. No regret, it's my main switch controller now. The only downsides are the first set up and the fact that it can't awake Switch by itself. Other than that it's perfect for me.
I had been on the fence due to the connectivity issues people posted about on Amazon but I think I'm going to finally get this controller. Great review!
Up to now I bought 4 of them over time. 2 as presents and 2 for myself. They are in daily us on Switch an PC and I totally agree with this review. Up to now I never had any kind issues. Best controller so far in category desing and solid in function. Nice review by the way!
It's a nice controller for retro games and platformers, and if that's what you want it for, than it's worth it. But if you want to use it primarily for games such as shooters, I wouldn't recommend it
I already have a SNES USB pad, but I want this one because I want to bring the SNES controller design, which btw is my favourite, to be usable in newer games which require analogue sticks, and also because of the bluetooth (to possibly connect it to my PSP?) I don't have any modern gamepads, I use my PS1 dualshock on my PC with an adaptor for games that support analogue sticks, but that doesn't work for every game, for example, I've had A Hat in Time on my PC since launch, but I haven't played it yet because I can't get my PS1 gamepad to work with it, so I wanted it because it would probably work better because it's more modern and all, and probably optimised for the task at hand, but I could get a PS3 pad for a fraction of the price and it would perfectly suit my needs... I still much prefer the SNES design though, I like my controllers flat with round edges, and without handles, and the cross-shaped D-pad on a SNES pad is way better than the segmented D-pad on a Dualshock to me... This is all a matter of preference of course...
Had this controller in my watch list since Amazon was doing pre-orders and I still want it. 8bitdo makes quality gaming accessories and I've never really had any real issues with them. Even the N30 arcade stick was amazing!
I'm more interested in that XBox One Duke controller, even though I don't have an XBox One (and might not get one). To see a "modernized" Genesis controller would be... mind-blowing, though, especially if they use the 6-button version.
Chaos89P the fact that 8bitdo can fit Bluetooth and rumble in this small controller puts Hyperkin's Duke to shame as it's £70 for a lot less than what the competition and the standard controllers offer
Amir Pourghoureiyan Right, but this is a 3rd party controller. First party stuff is always more expensive. Also, I think the "Duke" has a screen on it.
MaxSonic I know it's licensed but I still class it as 3rd party due to it being an unrelated nonessential add on. The screen bit is useless and gets old after a couple of times. 8bitdo would've done a better job if they got the license instead, their original SNES controller was 99% identical to the original Nintendo controller.
Nice video, I bought one too at release and I think it’s an amazing controller. I also made a sort of review on it because there were negative videos circulating saying the rumble was too loud so they made updated firmware available which reduced this and I felt I had to get that info out there.
What happened to the control that you was involved in?? Dose n e one else remember he had a live stream talking about it? It’s the kickstarter go thru?
I was just wondering about the All Controller the other day at work. Just did a Google search for it, and apparently they not only started an Indiegogo campaign for extra funding, they also pushed back the release date by 4 months as they only just found a manufacturer for the controllers on May 8 and, at that point, hadn't even worked out a contract. I've been watching a lot of videos focused on failed Kickstarters, and between the second Indiegogo fundraiser, the delays and the less and less frequent updates on the Kickstarter page, things are not looking too great for All Controller. I'm not saying it's never going to be released, but it's showing many of the signs and red flags that a lot of other failed projects showed right before they disappeared.
Based off of what I've seen in videos like Daniel Ibbertson's "KickScammers" series (and others), most of the time the backers simply lose their money, but the reasons vary by how scummy the campaigners are. In the worst cases, the campaigners simply disappear, presumably running off with the money. In the best cases, some or most of the backers do get at least partial refunds, but more often for honest campaigns that fail, the actual production costs far outstrip the estimates or the actual funds raised during the campaign and the campaigners are unable to either raise the necessary funds to finish the project or refund backers as they simply don't have the money anymore after spending it on the failed production.
Good am not the only one that remembers, he was pushing hard for that controller and now it’s seems like he’s acting like he never was involved. With all these controller vids u thing he would say something.. DJ slopes here lol love that guy
As someone who uses it with a tablet and a Raspberry Pi running Retropie, I can definitely agree that this is a great wireless controller and highly recommend it to anyone!
The rubber on my SNES 30 pro sticks wore out in less than a month. They fell apart like a pink eraser. I contacted 8bitdo and they sent me replacement sticks. I took the controller apart to replace the sticks, and I can say that controller is jam packed. Really nice setup inside, although a bit of a pain to get apart. I was worried of tearing the ribbon cable for the sticks while replacing the worn out ones. Put it all back together and good as new.
On some controllers (Xbox 360/One for example), you can pull the joysticks and they kind of pop up a few mm. This disconnects them so they won't make inputs when bumped. Maybe this controller has this feature?
I have an Afterglow PS2/3 controller and the right stick certainly annoys me. Compare that to my bigger Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 which is much roomy-er and causes me NO problems. Just from looking at it, I can tell that the right stick probably WILL cause problems, I hate to say.
One more thing to mention is that if your going to use it for the Switch make sure you upgrade the controller to the latest firmware version for the best connection and stability. Because it seems that when Nintendo releases an update for the Switch it makes the controller unstable or harder to connect to the Switch. So keep an eye on the 8bitdo website for any new firmware updates for the controller anytime there is a big update for the Switch.
I use my PS4 controller on the PS3, and I only use the PS3 to use the home button. No vibration but I'll take the much better form factor controller over rumble.
I got this controller as my micro controller. I have it my switch case and take it everywhere. It’s a great compact controller and honestly something I recommend to all the people I can
A note for those interested in buying this, I have the sn30 pro. Had to warranty my first one. The left analog stick was rubbing on the inside casing and would get stuck in the up position alot. The other problem I have with both is on the D pad when pressing down it will sometimes register the input as a down and right at the same time or diagonal. Those gripes aside the controller is awesome. I do prefer the nes30 pro because of those issues though
Will also add, these are probably the best controllers available for retro pi, I use the sn30pro, nes30pro and 8bitdo mini. The 8bitdo mini is not compatible with the switch if no one covered that.
I'm confused.... Did the UK and US have different versions of the SNES or something? I had a SNES when I was a kid, so did my cousin, so did my neighbour and so did my best friend. We ALL had the rgby coloured buttons with a darker grey circle behind the buttons on our SNES controllers. I even have a SNES mini now and it has the same rgby buttons and dark grey circle behind them. But Americans keep saying its a "super famicom" style?
Yes Europe had the same style as the Japanese version, called the super famicom, America had a more boxy console with same style controller but with purple buttons.
I actually bought the North American version of that controller, It's really great and I loved it so bad, that I could thanked you for that review and recommendation you have and to thought about it, despite that there's no colors like the Super Famicom does, it doesn't matter.
FF7 Remake Never releasing Try connecting it with the usb cable first and then connect wirelessly. I was having a similar problem but it worked perfectly after I plugged it in once.
FF7 Remake Never releasing Go to the controller pairing menu on the Switch, hold Start + Y to power the controller on, afterwards hold the pair button thats next to the charging port. The controller should now be recognized by your Switch from now on and press both L & R in the menu to pair it. Just remember you still need to hold both Start + Y if you want to turn on the controller for switch use.
Shocked you still haven't acknowledged the difference in button depression on the dpad and YXBA. The buttons on the 8bitdo controllers are taller (easy to tell even at 2:00) are more difficult to press in quick succession. Not a deal breaker but DEFINITELY a noticeable difference on the YXBA buttons.
ch282 I wouldn't say it's crap, it's definitely the best alternative pad. Just get one online and send it back if it's not to your taste, that's what I did.😉
I have the SNES30 and it is a great controller. So great in fact that I plan to buy the SN30 Pro+ when it becomes available and I would be interested in more too in the future because I love to collect controllers and 8bitdo is just badass.
Same, with my collection that goes back to the early 80's, and I already have 3 Power A MOGA controllers( 2 original I got band new for $5 each, and 1 Hero Power) for use with my Android phone, and they work fantastic with the built in phone clips, and the Hero also being able to charge my phone while playing if need be.
Chris Pham still a waste of money too me as I am not looking to replace my controller collection as each one is unique, I like it that way, and some have stories about how I found them over the years.
Hijynx87 Sorry, but no it's not. it's a useless hunk of plastic to me, as I don't really care for the analog stick placement, or the lack of controller grips. There is a reason Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft added grip handles to their controllers.
I think it's also worth noting that switching to diffrence devices with diffrent methods (i.e. Switch mode vs Xinput vs Direct input) is much easiser then switching between two devices with the same method, like when I first discoverd Downwell on Android only nativly supports Xinput controlls and not Direct input... thou you can allivated this by using the wired X-input mode on any PC you wanna to connect to, to skip on resyching it to your PC.
Have any of you spent time traveling with this controller? I plan on picking one up, along with a bulky Switch carrying case to use this controller on the go and my only concern is the durability of the joystick. I've never purchased an 8Bitdo product so I don't know how well their products last under use over time.
I've had mine for the better part of a year and I can tell you they hold up well. I have travelled as far as Jamaica with them and I use them frequently and throw parties at my job with these controllers getting a lot of use. The only issue I have come across is the thumbstick material sort of... leaving small bits of wear and debris. I think with more thoughtful use this is a non issue.
Tried updating the firmware? I've done that on the day I got it, and when 1.25 released. 1.20 was the version that fixed the volume issue and allowed the vibration motors to work on a PC.
Guys I have this controller, its worth every penny. I use it to play retro games and its completely replaced my xbox one controller I usually use on my PC. The build quality is just top notch, Id never expected this from a chinese controller
This is the only product review I’ve ever seen that convinced me to buy a product I’d never heard of before. I got the SN model for nostalgia’s sake though; gotta have my lavender, concave buttons.
I use this thing with my Switch, Android phone, and Windows computers. And I also like the cable for wired connection. The cable even looks like an original SNES/SFC cable!
I never played an SNES, but even without the nostalgia, I have to say, this is a pretty solid controller. I've been using it for months with emulators on my phone, along with PC games, and I'll have a Switch to try it out on in a few weeks. Definitely worth the $50 for the versatility of it.
I have this controller and it has one major fault: it begins getting heavy delay on switch the more controllers you connect to it. Fair warning! They are making a v2 of it with hopefully better bluetooth.
I´ve got the SN30 for 2 months and use it with my GPD XD+ regulary and I love it. One push and it´s connected immediately and one charge lasts beyond 8 hours. Sometimes I even use it with modern PC Games because it is a relief to my heavy Elite Controller. And when I visit my buddy who´s got a switch, but no second controller, it makes it just perfect. Perhaps you should´ve mentioned even more the quality of the analog sticks. They are so much better than the sticks of the N30 and almost as good as Sony or Microsoft analog sticks. I´ve had many controllers in my life but this one is almost perfect.

This review is what convinced me to get one of these, and I’m so glad I did. It’s my favorite game controller for both my PC and Switch now. Holding this controller while playing games feels so...right.
Wait till get my money right. I'm buying me one soon.
I finally got one baby!
I've had it for like 6 months now. I dig it
I also have that one. We should be friends.
Jan Hasebos Two men bound by a controller :v
I bought one myself. It is an amazing alternative to the switch pro controller. I actually bought it because i ran into some extra money and needed a 4th controller for my switch but didnt want to shell out 70 bucks for a pro controller. I saw this video and thought about it for a few days before buying one new for 45 bucks on amazon. I am extremely happy with my purchase.
How good is the gyro work for Switch? It's a small thing but very essential in certain game like Splatoon, SMO or Doom (personally, I use it so much on BotW too)
I can't stand the gyro controls, it kills my wrists. I'm probably using it wrong though, lol.
I have one and it's just as good as the Pro controller. I have tested them both and there is no discernible difference that I can find.
Khajonsak Jermprapai ua-cam.com/video/8PAyo-_llB4/v-deo.html
Hi folks, I bought that controller shortly after this convo. No regret, it's my main switch controller now.
The only downsides are the first set up and the fact that it can't awake Switch by itself. Other than that it's perfect for me.
I had been on the fence due to the connectivity issues people posted about on Amazon but I think I'm going to finally get this controller. Great review!
I am watching this at 144p.
I have a NES30 for a few years now and it still serves me, great company indeed
its basicly the doushock and a super famicon controller fusioned
Mihailo Guzijan pretty much
Up to now I bought 4 of them over time. 2 as presents and 2 for myself. They are in daily us on Switch an PC and I totally agree with this review. Up to now I never had any kind issues. Best controller so far in category desing and solid in function. Nice review by the way!
I use this for traveling with my switch instead of using the pro controller.
@SquidBag Because it’s smaller and more portable
I have a wired Pro controller and I and I’m going to use this on the go because my Joycons got Joycon drift
Thanks for that review, i was looking for so long to get a modern controller with a good D-pad to play Retro and Indie platformers.
I want this controller but I can't justify the price, especially not when a much cheaper Dualshock 3 will do the same thing that I want it for...
It's a nice controller for retro games and platformers, and if that's what you want it for, than it's worth it. But if you want to use it primarily for games such as shooters, I wouldn't recommend it
but its wayyy smaller so its more portable. The main reason why I want this controller.
I already have a SNES USB pad, but I want this one because I want to bring the SNES controller design, which btw is my favourite, to be usable in newer games which require analogue sticks, and also because of the bluetooth (to possibly connect it to my PSP?)
I don't have any modern gamepads, I use my PS1 dualshock on my PC with an adaptor for games that support analogue sticks, but that doesn't work for every game, for example, I've had A Hat in Time on my PC since launch, but I haven't played it yet because I can't get my PS1 gamepad to work with it, so I wanted it because it would probably work better because it's more modern and all, and probably optimised for the task at hand, but I could get a PS3 pad for a fraction of the price and it would perfectly suit my needs...
I still much prefer the SNES design though, I like my controllers flat with round edges, and without handles, and the cross-shaped D-pad on a SNES pad is way better than the segmented D-pad on a Dualshock to me... This is all a matter of preference of course...
The controller is 50$ on Amazon
Yes, and a Dualshock 3 is around half that price, if not less depending on where I buy it...
Had this controller in my watch list since Amazon was doing pre-orders and I still want it. 8bitdo makes quality gaming accessories and I've never really had any real issues with them. Even the N30 arcade stick was amazing!
Still waiting for a SEGA version.
I'm more interested in that XBox One Duke controller, even though I don't have an XBox One (and might not get one). To see a "modernized" Genesis controller would be... mind-blowing, though, especially if they use the 6-button version.
Chaos89P a Saturn version would be way better
Dr. Pest Good question
Dargonhuman Makes me whonder what happens with the money people donated it the project fails to deliver
Fantastic video. I wonder if it will work with a raspberry pi?
I've heard it does and it's a great universal controller option for it too.
Paul Novacek Perfect, thanks for filling me in!
Seconded... it's WONDERFUL for Retropie.
Easily, just look up a tutorial to hook up bluetooth.
I use two of these with a Tinkerboard running android + retroarch app. Works great.
How often do your thumbs bump against the sticks when trying to use the joypad or buttons? That's the main issue I'm concerned about.
I'm guessing it's similar to the Switch Joy-Cons, you would probably get used to it.
-this might be too late-
On some controllers (Xbox 360/One for example), you can pull the joysticks and they kind of pop up a few mm. This disconnects them so they won't make inputs when bumped. Maybe this controller has this feature?
@@planchetflaw I *never* knew why controllers did that, but you've really opened my eyes here.
@@planchetflaw So that's that's what its for? I always wondered why you could do that.
It also works with the PS3!
How does it work with PS3?
@@MartellThaCool ps3 can use (most) bluetooth controllers
@@gamber1497 problem with PS3 controller is the phone gotta be rooted or unless you got a Sony phone compatible with the PS3 controller
I use my PS4 controller on the PS3, and I only use the PS3 to use the home button. No vibration but I'll take the much better form factor controller over rumble.
I got this controller as my micro controller. I have it my switch case and take it everywhere. It’s a great compact controller and honestly something I recommend to all the people I can
Where is the all controller?
Bro, we had coloured buttons on the SNES in Europe. Don't just call it a Super Famicom just because of that
It's called the super famicom 30
i've had my sf30 pro for a few months now. i think it's pretty great!
PS1 protocontroller?
The button combinations don't require to carry the manual around. It's literally three button combos: Start+Y/X/B
Every time this nub says “8-Bit Dew” take a shot.
Bought the Sn30 pro for like 50 bucks a few months back, best purchase ever. I absolutely adore it for emulators, ShovelKnight and psychonauts
I believe it’s pronounced 8bitDOE-but thanks for the video all the same. :-)
Yes Europe had the same style as the Japanese version, called the super famicom, America had a more boxy console with same style controller but with purple buttons.
lol I got this controller one day before this video but the sn30pro version
I actually bought the North American version of that controller, It's really great and I loved it so bad, that I could thanked you for that review and recommendation you have and to thought about it, despite that there's no colors like the Super Famicom does, it doesn't matter.
Wait the controller is...
THICC
That's pretty cool, dude
I still can't connect this controller to my switch.
FF7 Remake Never releasing Have you updated the firmware?
Łukasz Bogacz yeah I updated firmware on my laptop and still won't connect to my a switch.
FF7 Remake Never releasing Try connecting it with the usb cable first and then connect wirelessly. I was having a similar problem but it worked perfectly after I plugged it in once.
Yeah plug that biatch in via usb c.
I used this for ESO and Halo Wars, this controller is solid and works greatly.
Shocked you still haven't acknowledged the difference in button depression on the dpad and YXBA. The buttons on the 8bitdo controllers are taller (easy to tell even at 2:00) are more difficult to press in quick succession. Not a deal breaker but DEFINITELY a noticeable difference on the YXBA buttons.
ch282
Same thing as the face buttons, taller and clickier.
ch282
I wouldn't say it's crap, it's definitely the best alternative pad.
I would definitely get this if I didn't have so many controllers lol
Same, with my collection that goes back to the early 80's, and I already have 3 Power A MOGA controllers( 2 original I got band new for $5 each, and 1 Hero Power) for use with my Android phone, and they work fantastic with the built in phone clips, and the Hero also being able to charge my phone while playing if need be.
Get it anyway! It would replace half your controllers anyway
Chris Pham still a waste of money too me as I am not looking to replace my controller collection as each one is unique, I like it that way, and some have stories about how I found them over the years.
Do it anyway, because this is probably better than most of your controllers.
It is pronounced 8bit DOUGH
DACHIE DACHIE
Yes. It's the do as in Nintendo. Because its a "8 Bit Nintendo" controller.
Not gonna lie it mildly infuriates me to. Seems obvious.
No it's pronounced 8bitdooo. 8bitdo clarified themselves
I have this and the rumble is LOUD.
How old are you

no u
We know no why he dose not have many sub he takes his sweet time to make videos
I hate HD rumble so this controller seems perfect to me.
I don't mind rumble when used at the most intense points in a game, but when it is used all the time, it just is obnoxious.
You hate innovative technology?
I love the HD rumble.
Great review. I felt the same. The best modern “retro styled” controller I’ve used.
Shut Up And Take My Money 🙋
Love it. Especially the size. Great review.
8Bitdo is pronounced “eight-bit-dough”, not “eight-bit-dew”. You know… eight-bit-dough, like nin-ten-dough.
Their Bluetooth speaker says "8 bit doo" when you turn it on so that is actually how you say it.
This is the only product review I’ve ever seen that convinced me to buy a product I’d never heard of before. I got the SN model for nostalgia’s sake though; gotta have my lavender, concave buttons.
I got this controller and i love it! i use it on almost everything, it acts as x-input, switch pro controller, mac, smartphone and i just love it
I use this thing with my Switch, Android phone, and Windows computers.
I used the SNES Pro to play Breath of the Wild. I still use it all the time, it's definitely one of my favorites.
This controller has the BEST joysticks I have ever used. They are BUTTERY smooth to use.
YES MAN KEEP THESE VIDEOS COMING
