Living in Japan for many years I had the chance to visit the main Yonex facility in Niigata, well, you will not believe at the quality control implement in all the production processes and with final validation that has a maniacal quality control. The perfection is definitely existing.
howcome their swing weight is all over the place?
@@soyellowsoviolent 👀
@@soyellowsoviolent is less all over the place than the other brands, but the swing weight is the hardest to get control over as 1 gram in the wrong place and you're 3 points off directly. 1 gram difference on a whole hand layup racket with cut prepeg carbon sheets is very very easy to make. I consider a 5 points swing weight difference in both ways as very good quality control from a manufacturing process perspective. But if you get 2 racket both at those 2 extremes they will play totally different in your hands.
Very unhappy with the ezone, feels really weird, doesn't swing well, strange muted feeling. Wife likes it though and I upgraded to blade, so much better
@@tomr6955 that has nothing to do with quality control, just your preference which is perfectly fine
Really interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Volkl player here. I got a C10 Pro and an Organix 7. I love them both.
My comment is probably not well informed, but when I see a racquet made in USA or Japan I consider it a good quality product.
Bosworth from Miami, Florida of course if you willing to spend
Babolat Vs series are pretty good quality racquets. I own 2 aero vs and they are perfectly matched. Also the materials are nice.
I got 1 Pure Aero VS that weights 307 g and six month later I bought another one that weights 321 g (both unstrung obviously). They look identical though. Lol bad luck this time I suppose
Recently switched from Yonex to head as I fell for the prestige pro. The weight, flex, balance and feel are great. But to be sure the build quality isn’t even close.
Great content again!! Would never think of those top choices in terms of quality. Lesson: Biggest names doesn’t mean the best quality.
Great video as always. I have mostly used Volkl 3 or 4 and few other brands through years. Frames have been pretty good but noticed differences in those plastic handle pallets. Especially the smaller sizes. Head uses pallets but always seemed better in consistency. Found this to be worst part of Volkls. BTW I have 2 Wilson Triad and there is .5oz difference in weights.
I’ve used the vcore 98 for a while now the most comfortable racquets I’ve used.
China can make great things. They make the KEF LS50 after all one of the best speakers ever produced for the price, that said I use Yonex.
This is one of the main reasons why I only use Yonex for years now. Can’t beat quality
Yonex is the best. I’ve got a source in China. The pro stock racquet is the best quality. Only Yonex has the same quality as the pro stock. Few years ago, I bought two Wilson blade 98 at the same time. They have different balance points, head size, length, and weight. How crazy is that!!!!!!!! I got Ezon later, the number on the paper is same as I tested. Zero points off.
Would have been interesting to see some stats
Making in China doesn’t make the racket worse. It all depends on the quality control and materials. In China you can produce low quality and high quality products.
100%
Nowadays some of the best suits come out of China amongst the non-bespoke suits
exactly proper quality control and materials hopefully sourced out of china place of production doesn't really matter but I would always buy made in Japan or made in Germany over made in china but you're correct..
Tecnifibre has dominated the squash market, particularly with men and women's top 10 pros (PSA). Their venture into tennis will not be far behind.
changed from clash to ezone 98 and very happy with that. true the feeling is preference. but i see the yonex racket more solid than wilson
I have four Yonex dr 98s and they are all within 1 gram of each other..From lightest to heavest.. Thank you YONEX!!!!!!!
Same here. 2 dr's, and 3 dr LG's for my daughter. Quality control is excellent.
Have 3 Vcore pro 320s. 2 of them are 319grs, the other 318. After new grips, overgrips, strings and vibration dampeners, they all weighted the same. And, the 3 of them were consecutive serial numbers, which speaks great of both Yonex and TW systems.
How are those have you played with other Yonex to be able to compare the? The Vcore pro is a racquet I am curious about?
@@ichinomiyaconbimai5104 I would recommend you to get a demo racket and try it. Actually most shops will allow you to demo several rackets at a time for a cost, and then when you buy one, whatever you spent to demo each racket is put to the purchase of your new equipment.
That way, you can really get s feel. Over a few weeks, of what you like, and you can try multiple brands.
@@bigrobsydney Thanks mate been there done that just not with the Vcore Pro.. I was just after an opinion and a comparison if you like? Cheers tho
What advice would you say I plan to go Pro through Challenger Tour & I use the Yonex Vcore 95 Flame Red 2018 edition Am a one handed backhand player & I hit with huge serves on my game the problem comes with the 95 Frame during matches I feel like it's pulling me back since I always hit the frame was wondering what Yonex Racquet for a One handed player who loves hitting with power & spin resort too I still love the Vcore 95 but tennis is all about margins I was thinking something of a frame like 97 frame similar to Roger & Wawrinka since both are one handers with 97 frames so was thinking of a Yonex like that but not a 98 frame as it seems it's too big for the one handed backhand 2 splash through I just have the instinct of learn from the Pros & what they are doing any help or advice Sir ☺
so what happens with pro-stock for the tour players? they get made in China or custom directly by the brand?
Hey Harry Can you test the swing weight n balance of the big racquet in the window.
Harry how far away are we from the first 3D printed racquet and who do you think might take that first leap of faith? They are already making 3d printed rocket engines from scratch COMPLETE. So I firmly believe the 3DPrinted racquets are coming. Good show, while I'm intrigued with Wilson Blade and any Clash that has cracked the code on control. Yes I'd plunk down the extra coin on a Yonex Regna gladly! Well if I ever get to Japan that is. Cream of the Crop IMHO
I have owned a blade 98 cv. About a year later, i ordered another blade 98 cv, same model, as a backup racquet. Strung with same string and same tension, but i could feel different swinging them. stacked them together and i found a noticeable difference in their length (about 1/8 inch). I didn't bother measuring their weight and balance and cannot say they felt different because of the little difference in the length. But if a manufacturer cannot produce their racquets in same length, how could you expect consistency in weight and balance of their racquets?
I experienced the same. I bought two blade at same time, they have different lengths, head size, weight, and balance. It’s ridiculous.
settings -> Playback Speed -> 1.5x (this gets it to normal speed)
😂 i did that and then, saw the comment...
Do you know where Angell rackets are made?
I have recently bought a Technifibre TF40 305 latest model 16/19 string pattern. It weighed with Head Touch strings 304 gms weigh under spec bought on EBay so can’t return not good quality control also bought another that weighed 312gms strung which I am returning to retailer as the other one is aggravating an old wrist injury. Going back to the older version 18/20 and may get the new version 18/20 if I can find a good deal. Thanks for informative and interesting video.
Why would you still stick with Technifbre if it gives you wrist pain?
@@bournejason66 The 18/20 string pattern encourages me to hit the ball flatter and a softer feel as more strings than the 16/19
How often should I string my main racket, until it brakes. I’ve had my racket for eight months and I haven’t restrung it I think the tension has dropped because the strings are pretty loose should I restring it?
Yes, I string rackets and I recommend every 2-3 months for poly strings and 3 for monofilament, synthetic 3-4 months.
general rule is if u play once a week restring once a year, twice a week= twice a year.
If you swing hard enough to break strings, then restring more often
I have played with a Yonex for a couple of years now and love it. Previously always Wilson but Nick Kyrgios persuaded me to change! Very noticeable at this years Wimbledon that Yonex is about equal to Wilsons in popularity with the pros.
Yonex is investing more money I think. Most pro players play with what they get more money from.
I’ve used yonex ezone and vcore for many years. A friend pushed me to try Heads, Wilson and babolats. quality control at Yonex may be true but it doesn’t mean others are any less. It depends on you game and preference. eg I have liked Head Extreme and Wilson Blade 104 better than Yonex ezone and vcore. I switched to Head extreme and love that more than any other for its best combination of power, spin and feel.
Diadem quality is very good with all of their products IMHO. I have not been disappointed thus far.
Yonex has the best quality control for retail rackets... hands down. Just wish they had a racket equivalent to the head extreme tour (in terms of feel, control, and spin potential). Also.... still trying to get my hands on the yonex Regna 98.
a big fan of head extreme tour. got 2 of them.
i tried the regna... it's overrated, no magic potion, the regular vcore will do the same job
What about quality control at Head Wilson and Babolat? What can you say?
Bad / awful / mediocre for the brands you mention. More money spent on endorsements than quality control.
@@johnnyguitar6697 😨😨😨
Aren't some Head made in Austria? Some of the high end like high end Yonex made in Japan?
I've been playing with ProKennex for several years now. Although I'm not expert, I believe their racquets to be well made and great for those who have arm injuries. I am not inclined to try any other brand of racquet and don't see why I should. Does anyone else use ProKennex and what do you think of their racquets?
I still play with a pro kennex 90 sq in from 1983 with a 16x18 box frame - simply the best
Been using Prokennex rackets for the last 18 months. Best rackets I have ever played with and really has helped to improve my tennis elbow even though I am playing 4 or 5 times a week. Great value rackets and the technology really does the job in reducing the vibration feedback to the arm.
How about Pro Kennex?
What happened to Wilson brand ?
I think your channel is very good. I have learned many things with you. Here in Cuba we do not have the possibility of buying a good racket, we play with what we get. I play with a Head Ti. S6 which is broken. How much would a similar one cost me?
A big hello from a fan in Cuba.
A Head Ti S6 costs about $100 retail in the US.
@@pb1963 Thanks. What other similar do you recommend? Where do you recommend I buy? I play 2-3 times a week to exercise and stay in shape. Kind regards from Cuba.
How would you(or anyone else here familiar with them) rate Dunlop when it comes to quality control.
I would guess they don't make batches as large as Babolat, Wilson, etc. either?
dunlop's still make very nice stuff - they make more money on tires etc, so they make rackets for quality design - not just to sell something
@@jaipaulsethi6880 Yeah, I'm especially loving what I hear about the CX 400 Tour, and I'm seriously considering it. It's not available to me for testing/demoing where I live unfortunately, hence my question about QC.
Yonex and Prince
Pacific actually makes rackets in Germany and have a guarantee that their rackets all match to their exact specs! No other company does that!!!
Angell racquet manufacturer custom make racquets to spec, and have a guarantee, there are several other small companies around the world making custom spec racquets
@@bengray5013 Yeah, that is true! But Pacific is not a custom racket manufacturer.
@@pimmelfresse9033 true, they make great racquets, they originally were Fischer
a friend just bought a Wilson Precision 100; on the raquet it says: „Made in Myanmar“
Your microphone isn't working. We're hearing audio coming from the camera
Everyone has their own opinion. If there is a definite top-quality company, why aren’t all the pros using it? Same goes for tennis shoes, socks, shirts, etc.
Lol pros get sponsored, as well as tour pros have their rackets perfectly fit to them, so no need to worry about quality control.
@@hsy2448 I don't think this is true for every pro. Maybe the top 50 players are custom but below that, they use the stock rackets. They just don't have the visibility of top players and who wants to waste the time to customize for lower tier players? Sure they might still sign sponsor deals but the customization is very hard thing to do. Also a pro will not stick with a company if they losing all the time with their rackets. It's not good for the pro and not good for the company. Some players switch all time from one brand to another.
@@twinwankel most still Taylor their rackets, by adding lead tape, which is not as precise as custom rackets, but account for inconsistencies.
Generally pros get signed to companies in which they already use their rackets. So it’s personal preference which stick they want to use.
I think Völkl Tennis divorced with Völkl Ski maybe 8 or 9 years ago. Certainly not 20 years ago as Harry stated.
Ok but what defines QUALITY when it comes to (manufacturing ) tennis racquets? Is quality only defined by how close to spec they can produce the racquet?
Or is there more to it, like the quality and consistency of the used materials and the actual manufacturing process itself? I wonder.
One example: WILSON is notorious for bad Q.C. The specs, as I understand, are often way off, and the paint quality apparently is bad as well.
Now I just bought a WILSON Blade 104, with a spec weight of 290 grams and it is spot on to the gram: exactly 290! Now does that mean the overall Build Quality of the racquet is top notch, or is it just a coincidence and it's still a crap shoot what you get?
What defines 'quality' in (manufacturing) a tennis racquet?
For me it‘s either Yonex or Tecnifibre. I see way too many guys playing with Wilson or Babolat lol
What criteria do you (Harry) base your assessment of quality on? The only one you mention is weight, and you talk about 1 gram, maybe 2 or 3 grams - rather casually I think. Do you have any data? I think you did a video in which you measured weight, balance and swing weight of different brands to assess how consistent they were and how close to spec. As a stringer I see differences in the cleanness of the drilling of the holes for the grommets; also, the grommets/bumpers themselves vary in quality and complexity between brands. Yonex have grommet sets with 6 or more pieces, as did Babolats until recently (Pure Strike in particular) whereas Wilson and Head grommets generally come in 4 pieces. One comment mentioned the poor quality of Yonex butt caps - that is another point of comparison. I think Prince butt caps are a bit better than most, but I would also say Yonex butt caps were comparable. By the way, Technifibre is very big in squash rackets, and has been for many years: also, you don't mention that Yonex is the number one brand in badminton rackets (and badminton string) in terms of popularity. So an interesting topic but a very superficial, qualitative treatment of it. I will buy you a coffee anyway!
Are Angell tennis racquets/rackets made in china, then sent on to the UK to be customised.
Nope, they're custom made in the UK
surprised to learn that there are only TWO plants making all the rackets that are non yonex brand! thats a lot of rackets!
Before watching the video, Yonex obv (:
When Tennis Warehouse visits Head in Austria, that's just their R&D facility? Hard to believe everything is made in China outside of Yonex!
The HEAD factory in Austria is mostly an R&D facility. Small batches of PT pro-stock racquets are still made there due to intellectual property reasons. The TGK pro-stocks are wholly manufactured in China. Even the PT hairpins are shipped out to China for paint finishing.
@@jerome_morrow Hey Jerome, they are produced in Taiwan, right? For us in Germany, it's not the same ;)
@@Andre-qm6we I don’t know if HEAD ever previously used a factory in Taiwan for racquet manufacturing. It’s all outsourced to China these days.
Yonex for sure
☝🏼
I don't think any of today's brands rivals the quality of Yamaha rackets that were manufactured in Singapore... Yamaha's feel was unmatched even to this day.
Yonex, of course!
☝🏼
Valeu!
Prince
If a company outsource manufacturing in China, by definition it means less control over production processes than if you keep production in house, as Yonex does. I shifted to Yonex years ago and never looked back. I also observe that the brand is increasingly popular on the pro side of the game, and particularly on the WTA tour.
By definition? By your definition?
@@bournejason66 no, as defined by the extensive literature on outsourcing and offshoring
Here in Cuba we say that the best racket is the one you have. Although it is made shit, like the one that many of us have.
Head racquets used to be better when they were made in Austria.
Yonex. Just like a lot of other Japanese company - monozukuri
Fabrizi in Italy...hand made according to your specs.....
I actually somewhat disagree with the point. Imo as manufacturers produce more and more racquet, they make adjustments to the manufacturing process and steady improvements over time. It’s like car manufacturers, the more they produce, the more reliable they usually are.
Good cakes 🎂 😋
What about Diadem?
eh
same shit, my friend got one the spec was so off almost even balance.
Made in China as well.
You will see the same thing with Badminton racquets the Japan manufactured Yonex racquets are superior no question about it!
Can't imagine ProKennex being made in China. I mean mainland China of course.
Yonex.....then everything else
☝🏼
Does Harry get a stiffie every time he says “literally” and “as you know”?
Yonex buttcap quality is terrible. They don't last long and tend to crack or disintegrate over time.
With all respect, I could not care less about where the racket has been manufactured. Today, everything is manufactured in China, low end and high end. I have played with Tecnifibre and Yonex, they are shit compared to Babolat and Head, specially Tecnifibre, the worst racket I ve played with in my life. Even Wilson, my father still plays with his Pro Staff from 1995 today and I still rock every now and then my nCode from 2007. Playing with the Head prestige since 2015, its still like new. All of them manufactured in China.
Racquet manufacturing and qc is at its worst ever...

I put these videos at .25x and on repeat in the backround before I go to bed. Sleep like a baby.
The manufacturers in the Caribbean and the states years ago had to be higher quality and I think head was manufactured in Austria as well as Vokyl was manufactured in Europe probably. These manufacturers had to be a higher quality than manufacturing in China. Wasn’t the objective of outsourcing to China because it was cheap labor ? A hand made suit from London is better manufactured than a suit coming from China.
Quality of iPhones coming from China do not seem to suffer from quality issues. Why? I would say it is just what the brand demands from the factory. Obviously, higher quality standard lowers productivity and hence cost.
Yonex is not that good anymore
cake comparison failed.
Tecnifibre is just AWFUL! SW difference is 310 vs 330 for the same racket…
funny how to this day people see "made in China" and freak out saying it's fake or bad quality when half of the things you use in life are made there lol
