Under the guise of tackling ‘hate speech’ and ‘disinformation’, the EU is seeking to silence all opposition to its rule. Musk is absolutely right to take it on. The free speech of millions of Europeans is on the line.

The only real criticism of the EU here in Germany comes from the Die Partei politicians who are or who have been EU members of parliament. The sorry state of democracy within the EU parliament is horrendous. Not to mention all the perks and expenses that can be claimed on top of already very high salaries.
A cesspool of corruption, right next door to the offices of lobbying groups.

It has become the opposite of what us early supporters hoped for.
It must be drastically contained to restore political powers as far down close to the people as possible.
Laws against “misinformation”, insure the spread of misinformation, because they give those in power the ability to spread whatever misinformation they want, and not be challenged.
...and that is the very definition of "propaganda" i.e. you can say (amplify) one thing but not the other.
Meanwhile China and Russia have tens of thousands of accounts spreading misinformation that people pretend don't exist, because if people realized they were here their plan to destroy the West would fail. So they do everything in their power to make sure people don't notice them.

No, the EU parliment is elected by the people of all the EU members.
Nothing and nobody, not even the elected, should be making laws for sensorchip.

I voted in the Brexit referendum to remain. Now, having done a lot more research and digging, and realising what has come to light about EU authoritarianism and nauseating nannyism, I would now vote Brexit.
The idea of what the EU has become is disturbing. History will, I believe, vindicate the UK's move to reject the EU.

But unfortunately, it seems you'd be in a very small minority if you were sitting in Westminster.. According to Nigel Farage, his recent experiences as an MP have already led him to estimate that around 95% of sitting UK MPs (from ALL parties - except Reform UK of course..) are Remainers and around 50% of them would happily take us straight back into the EU as a full member-state TOMORROW..

I always wonder 🤔 where does censorship begin? Its all very well talking about censorship, but at what point do you want it to start? When you censor one word, you start the process of selecting all words. So, are you ok with allowing all words to be spoken, if not, you are starting censorship, and who are you to tell someone else they can't censor Elon Musk further down the line!!
No, the EU Parliament cannot amend legislatin. It can only propose amendments. They are incorporated in the legislation only if the Commission agrees. If there is no agreement the issue is decided bythe EU Council, ie the executives, not parliament.

This all stems (at least in the US) from the unwillingness to once and for all stick a definition of what social media platforms are.
As in, are they "public squares", which would mean all speech, with the exception of lawfully defined illegal speech, is allowed. Downside of this approach (for the companies) is that the companies would need to allow speech they don't agree with, to stay on their platform;
Or are they "publishers", which would mean that terms of service apply and the company can censor/delete whatever they want. Downside of this approach (for the companies) is the fact that the company is fully responsible for the content published on their platform.
All of this results in companies switching between these two descriptions of what they are, based on what they need/want in that specific moment, be it online argument, government hearing or a lawsuit.
Thank God/Farage for Brexit.
