Thank you! This tutorial is fantastic! I can't wait to try this loose Icelandic poppy. I found watercolor last December after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I will tell you that it was like the perfect therapy for me, and I would practice my brush strokes and beginner exercises and just lose all since of time. It's become another addiction along with my love of quilting.
I love this! My compliments to John on filming and editing! Closeup shots at just the right time and the overhead footage is close enough to actually see. Also, I love the music! It's not blaring and doesn't compete with Jenna's voice. You guys make a great team!
I so agree. The music and Jenna's voice are soothing, and that is the main reason why I choose *this* video. Many people out there making these videos, but this team is really good.
I love poppies and think they are the loveliest water color flower. These are beautiful - vibrant and yet delicate - true Icelandic poppies. This painting would even be stunning without the stems - the poppies are worthy of standing alone. Think this is one of my most favoured of all poppies! Thank you Jenna - cannot wait to try this...ahhhh the weekend is almost here!
Absolutely gorgeous! Jenna i love to watch you paint. It looks so easy but it is not. I'm very sick and painting seemed something I'd always wanted to try. Years ago I rried Bob Ross and didnt do to bad, but now it's hard to even hold the brush. I dont sleep much because of pain and insomnia. If I am able to paint anything it's at night when I'm awake and hubby snoring without TV on I can create only one or two flowers ( Sometimes ) lol.... I love your painting because you don't drawl the flower first. You really know your flowers. I use to working in a greenhouse 8 seasons some 47 years ago. That is the magic I love to see you paint without drawling. I have tried drawling it first with no success. Well I've ranted so much. Oh I ordered some postcards blanks because my daughter and I started post crossing last year and it seemed exciting to send my beginner paintings all over the world. Jenna, Thank you for giving me some joy and hope that I can do something lasting. I have always doen crafts to be with my husband but yet block out TV. I'd do it anyway. Always want creativity in my life till my last day. ❤
Hey Christina! Thanks for sharing a bit of your experience and for your appreciation of my paintings. I hope that you continue painting and just finding the joy in it, more so than any outcomes which may or may not be disappointing. Have fun and happy painting! 💕
Too pretty for words really. Its so amazing how you can go from tinted water, to these beautiful, colorful, yet delicate poppies. All with ONE brush. I kept waiting for the small brushes to come out for details, but nope! *** QUESTION: Should beginners switch to smaller brush for details??? Your explanations as to why you are doing something, and saying what you plan to do later, is very helpful. And you always say what color you are grabbing. The colors are getting into my head now. Today is my 1st time to your channel. But I've been watching you for hours. And several parts 2X. And I will watch them over several more times. It keeps it in my head better. Got my brushes ordered today. I was so afraid before. But now from watching 6 hours of you using your brushes, I'm just excited. I love your painting and teaching style. I will struggle with being calm, but I'm ready for the chance for something calming yet new. I can use some "calm". Thank you for the video. You are very appreciated. Excellent artist! Austin,TX USA
I simply adored this tutorial. Having the colors mix in the paper is magical and organic. I hope you do more of this technique in the future. It won’t be easy to learn it. My biggest challenge has been too much water. If I’d ony listen to mysef while painting…..lol. Much obliged.
I love the feel of this. The style is loose and so carefree. I love being able to watch you work in a flow state and the tips you give on how to stay loose. As a beginner I absolutely appreciated this. Thank you Jenna and John!!
I love this painting so much, and can't wait to try it. I would also love to see more of this type of painting with other flowers, maybe hibiscus, lillies or sweet peas.
Thank you for such an easy to understand description of what you are doing as you work your magic. I particularly like that you clearly give the name of each colour as you use it. As a beginner, that really helps me immensely.
Beautiful! I love how you incorporated the small strokes of wet on dry with the same color as you went around and did the wet on wet… perfect amount of detail ❤ You’re such a great teacher! Very good at explaining the process. Thank you!
This is absolutely beautiful! This is the look I’m trying to achieve. Staying loose is a struggle for me, but you inspire me and I’m not giving up! Thank you for providing such detailed instructional videos! ❤️
I have watched this video dozens of times! First because I was mesmerized by how your brush floated across the paper. And then the dancing colours! I finally got the courage to try these flowers three times and it’s definitely a work in progress but your tips and videos are on point. A million thanks!
Love these! Really appreciate the reminder to breathe throughout and to continue practicing. I love this: putting water down first and then enjoying the blooms of color. As always, thank you so much Jena and John!
Thank you John for making this website videos Jenna kept me going through the pandemic and you both will never know how grateful I am you both kept me from giving up. Love and happy happy Birthday to you :D Your awesome these tutorials are keeping me sane and not feeling so alone.
Yay! When those petals burst with colours!!! 🧡💛❤️️ Your brush strokes are so confident and expressive I usually use my hard old brushes for those splayed dot effects. Such cool Blue birthday nails. Really enjoyed your live class and chat with Becca. So cool to see how many artists were online, 11000+ 🎨👩🎨👨🎨👩🎨🖌INSANE!
What a great way to start off my morning! I too love Icelandic Poppies and have them growing in my yard. They are so beautiful as they sway in the breeze. You really captured their beauty in this painting. The photography is excellent and the music is a very nice addition for this video. Thank you.
I love your tutorials! Everything turns out great and gives me confidence that I can paint! Not so with other teachers on UA-cam so a huge thank you!!!
Thank you for this inspirational video Jenna and John. No one sees like Jenna. John lets us see Jenna’s art from several angles and provides beautiful music. I will be doing this painting immediately! So beautiful! 😊
I raced through your video in 30 minutes, didn’t look at any photos of Icelandic poppies until after I had posted mine to Instagram (@cindybtanner). My new strategy is to paint what you paint, assuming that you know what you are doing. Time to work my way back through all of your peony videos. Thank you Jenna and John for this morning’s inspiration,
I adore this painting. This type of loose style is gorgeous to me. I have to try a lot to get close to your result. But I will try and try and try.....Thank you so much for sharing your expertise
Thank you Jenna! I love your tutorials. They’ve really pointed me in the right direction with watercolors. I mostly have a satisfying result now, whether before it was usually a frustrating disappointment! Thank you thank you!! X

Really helps to use the size 16 brush and stay loose. I tend to like the tiny brushes because I like to have control. Good life lessons!!
