    Hi everyone. I just found you can use the manual fan controlling to have a more balanced temperature/noise control instead of the stock Balanced Mode and Performance Mode.
    Go to the command center Fusion, you can use the smooth line fan speed definition function for both of the CPU and GPU.
    My setting is CPU: 0C 30%; 40C 50%; 100C 90%, GPU: 0C 30%; 40C 55%; 100C 90%.
    This setting works well for daily use and gaming.

      esperanzas! That's pretty advance settings I just got and Alienware M15 R4 and was disappointed I need to learn more but had to returned it because when I was setting up the windows 11 it was getting hot and it shutdown and it was plugged in to the power cord. I'm getting a replacement soon but watching your video might help me when I get the new one. Imagine if it got hot just installing windows what will happen when I play or mine on the PC. Scary!!!

    Thanks for the detailed review! As a same machine user, I mostly agreed your opinions.
    1. There is NO need for Ryzen 9, at least on this model, even on R6 Intel models, just don't choose i9, it will brings too much price but gains so little performance boost, just not worth it.
    2. My confirgration is R7, 16G, 512G SSD, RTX 3070 @130W, 2K 240Hz display. For this display I highly recommend this panel, it just good, have higher resolution, Windows Hello face unlock, Nvidia Advanced optimus that is super useful, 240Hz refresh rate of course. I think it worth the extra money, the problem is this screen bundled with RTX 3070 which sucks, however, 3060 still not really 2K ready.
    3. The CPU is HOOOOT, in one BIOS update, Dell even allowed CPU to run 105C which AMD CPUS allowed maxium,that means, if you not tweaking TCC offset, it will run 105C all the time while gaming...
    4.The whole system performance showcase is pretty weak, it runs at 54W+115W while doing AIDA 64 FPU stress test and furmark, and it runs at performance mode, this machine is just not mean to be "Ultra Performance" kinda stuff. Luckly, AMD CPUs truns to be have better performance while low wattage, that's the reason why it performe better than i7-11800H in R6 model, Intel 11th Gen laptop CPU is super power hungry.
    5. TCC offset and Ryzen Controller are the best tools to ease this hot CPU, by setting never let CPU over 90C and controled wattage while gaming, brings the temperature 10C down and not droping FPS too much, worth the tradeoff.
    6. RAM sucks, 2BG brings FPS down, so make sure you purchased 16G double side RAM(4BG RAM), make it dual channel, can save a lot FPS in games like CSGO, while in 2021, many manufactures choose this kinda RAM because is cheaper...
    7. New machines shipped with Windows 11 system have the mounting case for second SSD and included heat shield also (Finally Dell...)
    8. If your machine comes with 256G SSD, 512G SSD, just change it...They all basically M.2 2230 standard, these SSD never gonna have good performance because it's too short...Purchased a better SSD that is M.2 2280 standard, helps a lot.
    9. This machine is ultra similar to Dell G15 because I believe is just a "Alienware brand" of Dell G15...They share basically all the designs, motherboard design, internal design, you name it, Alienware M15 R5/6 just make the machine a little bit silm, so they have to shink down thermal solutions, you can see the fan blades on R5/6 are much less than G15, to get similar performance, fans needs to be run super fast, that's the reason why got 60dbs at performance mode while doing heavy load stuff. I got an alienware headset so it doesn't bother me too much tho.
    And based on my case, 240W adapter shipped with 3070 specs kinda have power hungry, it will drain your battery for no reason! Even I change the adapter to 330W to make sure the adapter can provide enough juice for the meachine, still drains, drains the battery to 0% while pulg in AC adapter! This drives me fking crazy, Dell tried so many ways couldn't fix it so they have no choice but to exchange a new one.
    In short, next machine I will 100% choose X15/17 and keep waiting until they fix small bugs, X15/17 also have some annoying bugs...

    I considering getting the Ryzen 7 + 3070 RTX + 240 Hz QHD... you mean it is not wise to get the 3070 as it will be too hot and performance no big difference? How about the screen? Just get the normal 165 Hz? Appreciate ur advise bro

    • @pengstechtalk9579

      Yeah, I will say go 3060 instead of the 3070. It is already fairly close to the thermal threshold of this 15" machine. If you want 3070, I think the X17 might be the better choice. I think the 165Hz is ready good enough if you are not a very heavy FPS gamer (like CS GO).

      Hi, thanks for your support. You can ask Dell's customer service to ship you a free bracket and heat sink.
      I would suggest you to disable the integrated GPU for a better build-in display gaming FPS. It would be not necessary if you are using an external display.
      I don't have time these days for another follow-up of this machine. You can google that and get the drivers from Dell's website. Once BIOS updated, you can click F2 during the startup to get into the BIOS and find the GPU option in the Advanced Tab. If you have any questions, you can let me know here.

    Is the Alienware M15 R5 louder than the Dell G15 when both are in performance mode? The Dell didn't seem that bad to me, so if this is the same, I'd probably go for the Alienware: better keyboard, same screen and 3070 with 8GB video RAM and TCC offset option, which the Dell doesn't have.

    • @pengstechtalk9579
      @pengstechtalk9579  3 роки тому

      Yes, in performance mode, Alienware 3060 is much louder (60dBA) than my G15 3060 (52dBA). But I just find out the Alienware can custom the fans speed curve by yourself. I shared my settings in the comment just in case.

      @@pengstechtalk9579 Thank you! I just ordered an Alienware M15 R5 5800h+3070 because of the information you have provided about it, and I'm returning the Dell G15. I'm getting a $500 Canadian discount on the M15, so it'll be $1699 instead of $2199 Canadian. The keyboard on the Dell is just not good enough for me for gaming, and I also don't like having only 6GB of video memory when some games are already demanding more, even at 1080p. Which one do you prefer, assuming both were deeply discounted? The Dell G15 5800h+3060, or the Alienware M15 R5 5800h+3070?

    • @pengstechtalk9579
      @pengstechtalk9579  3 роки тому

      @@Moshe_Dayan44 If you get both good discounts, I think M15 R5 could be a good choice.
      I'm not sure what's your G15 config. You might also be careful of the screen, the 165Hz 99% sRGB is much better than the 120Hz screen.
      I have same feeling that this M15 R5 keyboard is much better than G15. For 3060 vs 3070, the R7-5800H+3060 G15 can also unlock to 125W GPU by BIOS update. This M15 R5 3070 is a 130W GPU, which is not full power. You will get some FPS improvement from the 3070, but as I mentioned in the video, the thermal will be more stressful for this M15 R5 model.

      @@pengstechtalk9579 Thank you again for responding with even more helpful observations and comparisons between the two laptops! The Dell G15 I have is the 165Hz 1080p screen version, and in my opinion, it looks pretty well identical to the Lenovo Legion 5 I also had recently with a 165Hz 1080p screen. I do like the fact that the Alienware has the TCC offset setting in the bios, whereas the Dell doesn't. Basically, either one will work for the games I play, but I like the option to limit the temps on the Alienware, the keyboard, and the 8GB video card. So, assuming the screens are the same, and the fan noise can be adjusted to be similar, I'm leaning towards the Alienware. The Alienware should show up today, so I'll compare it to the Dell and let you know my opinion about the differences and the pros/cons.
