  • After 3 nights of waiting out a storm, I got back on the Trans Am Bike Route. Leaving Lexington, VA, I did something really stupid after reading the map incorrectly. I turned the wrong way on a one-way street into oncoming traffic. Luckily, the cars saw me and stopped. I didn't understand what was happening and ended up flipping the trike. Somehow, there was no damage to the trike, e-assist, or trailer. My ribs are very sore from the handlebars but nothing is broken. Phew! Otherwise, the ride was very beautiful. I did 46 miles with 2600 feet of climbing to camp at a city park in Troutville, VA.

This channel is about all things trikes and travel. I have been riding a recumbent trike since 2005 and have been touring since 2007 all over the world. I have toured on 6 continents, in over 20 countries and cycled more than 100,000 miles. In 2020, I shifted from solo trike touring to solo RV travel. After completing a cross country solo trike ride am I now switching back to looking for primo spots and trails to ride my trike.
On this channel I have gear reviews, tips and tutorials but, mostly, I produce short travelogue type videos of my tours and rides as I go. I travel with a DJI Action 3, Insta360 One X2, Skydio 2 drone, DJI Mini Pro 3 and an iphone. Thanks for subscribing and following along!

Yes, you were really lucky. I would guess the next morning you probably felt a bit worse than during your ride.
I am very impressed that you're traveling alone by recumbent and such a distance! What is your average mileage for a day of riding? I think I watched another of your vlogs where you indicated you were going to add some pedal assist to Myrtle. Is this trip before or after that addition? It is currently December 2023; are you still on the road somewhere?
You are definitely having quite a life. 😊 Doing something that many of us wish we had the guts to try. I ride an upright trike and still working up the courage to cross the intersection of an 8 lane highway. 🥴😏

Yes, this event messed with me psychologically more than physically. I used e-assist for this tour. It is a 250w motor.

Hello Troutville, Va. ! I remember when you had this accident and I thought how lucky you were that it wasn't worse... We were holding out breath!
Seeing deer on our rides is so cool... She didn't seem to mind you being there.
The park sounded nicer than the "Cookie Lady's House"... LOL!
    Keep on Triking!

I'm usually the most sore on the 3rd day after I do something dumb... 😁
You have used up your graces for the time being, so be especially careful the next few days. ( they say statistically you are most at risk in the next two weeks!)😬
We sure do enjoy your posts. Stay safe and God bless!

Glad you were not seriously hurt I am sure you felt it for a good while. My wife was driving our youngest daughter to a music college audition and interview in Baltimore years ago and turned right on to a one way street right into a Light Rail train. Totaled the car. No one was hurt. Daughter got out of the car, walked three blocks and nailed the audition. Stuff happens though.

@@TravelsByTrike I have often wondered about the possibility of falling on a tour , as my latest test of tailbone against wet pavement set me off the bent for 3 weeks now. Stay safe out there even if you do have three wheels.

How did you flip your trike? Did the trailer make you unstable?
Have an ICE sprint X Tour. The EP8 electric version is £4000-£5000 more expensive - ouch !!!

The trailer is super stable. I misread the map and turned the wrong way on a one-way road. Bad decision that could have had a much worse outcome. I was very lucky!

I'm watching your great adventure from New Zealand! What impressed me most, besides your riding and lovely countryside, is your positivity. It's fantastic, and I really commend you for it. Despite the ups and downs on this epic journey, you stay positive all the time. Brilliant! Keep on riding!!

I won't be hard on you, 4 weeks ago I was lowering a 36' extension ladder, lost grip on the sliding part which came down on the two little toes on my right foot. Nothing broken, but there is still pain, and on Monday to make things worse I was walking with a massive 17 meter band HAM antenna and it landed on the same toes, OOPS! (It has a 16'x24' footprint, sort of like a TV Yagi)
To error is human to really mess things up requires a computer!

Never a boring day , My recumbent electric trike max speed is about fast walking speed . The ten foot trailer that I pull has a GTO sunmar head . We can pitch the tents on the trailer so we are about 18 inches off the ground . Thanks for the inspiration .

@@TravelsByTrike I have a airhorn that is held on with Velcro for dogs , and on my way over I hit the horn. My husband came back ,and I was laying in the middle of the road on a very dangerous curve. I was making a left hand turn ,but not really fast , and I made a quick response , and over I went. I was making a left hand turn coming out of a driveway on a curve. I completely understand how you went over making a turn onto a one way road. It must of shocked you as soon as you realized the mistake. I went over on my bad shoulder that I got hurt when I was being attacked by a pit mix. I was on my two wheeler ,and a pit attacked me. The only thing that kept me from being hurt was keeping my bike between us I pulled my shoulder out lifting my bike . If I would have been on my trike he would’ve been at my face . I take no chances with dogs now . A lady county over lost her leg from three pits . Ripped her skin off her back . I carry a stun gun , air horn and a 380 . I stopped riding the roads a person texting almost hit me . I look like an ambulance I have so many lights and flags . I watched your videos as much as I could you’re a hero to me . We are the same age . It’s pretty amazing how many miles you accomplished . I’m so proud of you.
