  • Today's ride ended much differently than I thought it would when I started cycling from the Pioneer Family campground in the morning. This is a big emotional day for me. I am completely exhausted from not sleeping well while camping and riding on roads with no shoulder. The smoke from the wildfires is also affecting my health. I had been thinking about ending the tour for the last few days and today was the day. This Moto-Myrtle tour has been an incredible experience. Having everyone's support and enthusiasm all along the way was, for sure, the best aspect of my tour. I'll be doing more videos talking about lots of different topics from the tour such as how my body, gear, trike, and e-assist handled the miles. Thanks for following along!!

This channel is about all things trikes and travel. I have been riding a recumbent trike since 2005 and have been touring since 2007 all over the world. I have toured on 6 continents, in over 20 countries and cycled more than 100,000 miles. In 2020, I shifted from solo trike touring to solo RV travel. After completing a cross country solo trike ride am I now switching back to looking for primo spots and trails to ride my trike.
On this channel I have gear reviews, tips and tutorials but, mostly, I produce short travelogue type videos of my tours and rides as I go. I travel with a DJI Action 3, Insta360 One X2, Skydio 2 drone, DJI Mini Pro 3 and an iphone. Thanks for subscribing and following along!

This is now 6 months later than your decision to end that trip. I agree that you had nothing to prove to anyone and everything being what it was, it probably was the best decision for you. I applaud your travels to date and appreciate the knowledge you continue to share with us all. I look forward to seeing you seeing you again at the February recumbent retreat! 🤩💕

Wise decision when you’re tired and not feeling safe. Hopefully you had a physical. You’re a brave woman and could probably write a great book after all the places you’ve been and experienced. I’m in Dallas and would never ride my trike on these area roads due to so many angry drivers and folks on their cell phones plus it seems tons of people have moved here and traffic is unbelievable! I admire your courage, diligence, and your competitiveness to explore our country. God bless.

Cellular phones, Here is what need to occur is for Apple and Samsung to be sued for a sizeable chunk of cash or or option B forcing the manufacturers to 100% disable or lock the devices when not connected to bus or rail WiFi while in motion through a class action. Cellular phones are equipped with both GPS and 3D accelerometers that can measure movement everywhere even in a deep cave!
I would prefer to stop texting and dialing the telephone functions while even walking at 3mph and limit some uses to voice control such as playing music, recording video or using mapping services like geocaching or Waze!
As for the cars, our roads will grow empty into the 2030's with the great folly of the lithium powered electric cars and I expect to have less than 20% of the current car traffic compared to today by 2040!
Because of the demise of personal cars, we will have much real estate to explore within the next 20 years on E bikes and E trikes and even more beyond! In London England a steep parking fee of £37 per 8 hour stay (and charging is even more!) is being levied on Electric Cars, as of December 1st, 2023! www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/11/28/electric-vehicle-charged-extra-westminster-london
Also a electric automobile disposal tax is being considered by CARB. Some media have suggested $100,000 just to scrap (or $95k more than a gas car) on a Nissan Leaf that was $25,000 to buy in 2019!

Hugs Sylvia … Great place to end a tour “ Rural Retreat, Va.” It’s kinda poetic in a fashion. It’s great to know that you made a decision to be safe above all else. This trip alone has been epic in its scope and grandeur not to mention all the great scenery and great sights. Thank You for taking us along for the ride. I look forward to your next great adventure. Hello Rural Retreat, Va.!
I certainly understood your reasoning to end this adventure, Sylvia. Peace of mind, safety, and personal health are so important. The lack of road shoulders just adds to the inherent stress of such a long distance trip.
    Keep on Triking!

Enjoyed riding along, vicariously.... Here in PA, decent shoulders are mostly non-existent...
I used to to ride 200 to 300 miles per week on the road... then, along came cell phones... Now I ride rail trails...
Thanks for the experience... enjoyed it.

Yeah, that's why I'm doing mountain triking. Much less mental stress when you take distracted automobile drivers out of the picture. I plan on hitting all the Jeep trails in the area with my full fat trike.

Thoroughly enjoyed your triking adventure. Always go with your gut. If it does not feel safe, time to quit. Look how far you went! An incredible distance and some of it brutal weather conditions. Quite an accomplishment. Great friends you have that came to you rescue. Take care and Merry Christmas.

    Sylvia,
Best decision you could have made. What little I know about you from being around you at TOT, it is not you to be alone while riding day after day. I know that I didn't start riding to spend all my time alone day and night. I also think that riding on those roads is dangerous and I'm glad you won't be doing that. When you look back I think you will see the message in your little dust-up when you turned the wrong way (probably was the right way after all).
I think if you compare these videos to the ones you made in Columbia or riding down the Pacific Ocean for a month, you will notice the "joy" hasn't been there except for the few days you rode with people you met.
Looking forward to seeing you at TOT in 2024. Hope you are there. Take care of yourself and rebuild. Let me know if you need anything.
    Be well and stay safe,
    bf

I was kinda bummed that you weren’t able to finish the whole tour, but I completely understand. I would probably have done the same thing if I wasn’t feeling it anymore, or feeling weird about the ride. I’m kinda glad it’s over in a way to, because now we can get back to your regular rides and see you on group rides again and such in places like California and Washington on rides like the Bridge Pedal event and stuff. I’m really glad you made it as far as you did. I wish I could have gotten to ride with you some when you came close to Arkansas, I hope you come back this way sometime so we can ride together. I’d also love to see you do some riding in Texas and Florida, they have some darn good cycling trails and routes through both of those states as well. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🎄🎄 and Happy New Year!!!🎊🎈🎆

Well, even tho you didn't complete your trip in its entirety, you accomplished something that a lot of folks only wish they could even attempt. I for one am totally impressed.
I'm figuring you've likely recovered for the most part. If you ever devide to try another long-ish trip by trike, you might consider the Katy Trail, if you haven't done it already. I've been seeing several channels showing various people riding the Trail. It's a rail-to-trail route in Missouri, 240 miles. I think it's mostly traffic free (but am not entirely sure about that).
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2024 be a wonderful year for you. 👍

I am enjoying following along with your trip! I can appreciate the effects of the Canadian wildfires on our health last spring and summer. I avoided outdoor exercise here in Michigan, too. The smoke elevated the Air Quality Index to levels not good for me. It's rare for me not to ride! I'm sure that the smoke effects contributed to your fatigue and emotional state. You did what was best for you! Thank you for sharing your trip, your thoughts, and your photography! I'm looking forward to your follow-up comments!

Well when you headed west, it was so early. As for traffic. I ride in it every day, and I just keep a good eye on traffic, and just pedal. As for your decision it was up to you. Take care, and stay safe. If you'd waited to say June before starting west, you might have seen more bike riders.
