SHANE VAN BOENING VS JAYSON SHAW - 2023 DERBY CITY CLASSIC BIGFOOT 10-BALL CHALLENGE

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Another match in the long standing rivalry between Shane Van Boening and Jayson Shaw, from the 2023 Derby City Classic Big Foot 10-Ball Challenge.
This was from round two of the event, so both players had already had a chance to get acclimated to the table.
These two Hall of Fame First Balloters have faced off so many times that they each know the other’s game very well. The winner would be locked into at least 3rd place, and the loser would be out of the event.
Jeremy Jones and Mark Wilson were in the booth

The game is alot more beautiful when no jump shots are allowed. Great match.
Or jumping only allowed with your regular pool cue. No specialized mini jump cues allowed. Sometimes you just need to get over the edge of a ball and that can be done with the regular sized cue.
@@do_notknow_much I like to see kicks and escapes and kick safes. Jumping takes all that out of the game. Less imagination.
@@do_notknow_muchi always do jump shot with my play cue's. bcs i can't afford jump cue's 😅
Right! I jump with a normal cue. I can even jump with a meucci. I don't use baby cues. @@do_notknow_much
@@do_notknow_muchi was jumping with a full length meucci!!
My 2 favorite announcers. Jeremy and Mark are so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. I think they are actually helping me become a better player. thanks gentlemen
Couldn't agree more!
I couldn’t agree more! Jeremy is one of my favorites and mark just has such a good vibe!
The conversation between JS and SVB at the end, it's nice to see rivals having a good hearted chat after a match like this. Thank you for posting the match for us to enjoy
I was going to post the same thing. Seems like there had been some bad blood between these two for a while now. It's not to see them get along (from the little bit we can see)
because of rack 14, Jason thought SVB hit the ten ball first..

Jeremy Jones is gonna go down. In the future. As the greatest nightball commentator of all time
There playing 10 ball though 😂😂😂
I agree
Sounds like a porno narrator
Tentball 👌🏻
I prefer dayball myself
Two of my favorites right there. It's hard to root against them
I've noticed Shaw has been very humble lately, starting to like his class now
I know right? What's up with Shaw having grace 😂 Like a neutered dog compared to Mosconi Shaw 5 years ago
I didn’t like him much, but lately I like him. Bet that’s why
He was nearly in tears when he lost the pool league to FSR. the way he behaved after that game made me lose all respect for him. its good to show a bitof class after the way he behaved losing that final

Hanoi!!! Ahaha
Two great players, great match, and the best comentation in pool. Superb.
These 2 commentators have a synergy that is very positive and comprehensive. I’ve only heard two others do billards and they were awkward at best. Even without a great knowledge of this art it is obvious to this casual observer the earlier HOF comments seem appropriate. Very enjoyable.
What a classic! These guys never disappoint in head to head. And I'm always glad to see SVB come out on top!
SVB!!!
Fantastic match. Love watching these legends clash.
Love watching both these gents! Knew one of 'em was gonna win!!!! :) Let's Gooooooo Be Safe
Thank you to all of that shared this stream!
I feel like the Derby strives to be the most pure format, and I know there’s a reason they do things how they do, but I think winner-break format would be one stroke more pure.
I hate winner break. I like alternate break. Adds fairness.
Two guys I get the enjoyment of seeing them lose is Shaw and Filler. Both have a cockiness about them that when they lose I’m like yes.
1:14:32 (Explanation for Mr. Jones) I believe that when the cue ball is so close to the rail that it is sometimes spinning more than the normal amount. In other words when it would be rolling without sliding. Mathematically angular velocity is now greater than v/r this happens when the cue ball is struck higher than 7/10ths it's radius or the point of percussion. (Assuming a level cue.) This is also why it is easier to control topspin than draw--after a certain distance the amount of spin (excluding side) is indepent of cueing height and only dependent on cueball velocity (omega =v/r)
When does the cueball ever roll before it slides? Isn't it only possible for the cueball to slide first then roll? (or just slide or just roll depending on speed/distance)
It can't ever be good to start a science explanation with: "I believe"
🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
@@robdetuinman2I believe you're right 😊
I'd love to know what Shaw was talking to SVB about after the match.
Me too. What was that about?
They're ex housemates... They could be talking about anything... Didn't look like a heated discussion... All good...
Did they both have issues with chalk stuck to the cue ball? It appeared as tho' they may have been discussing that. The way SVB picked up the cue ball and inspected it; scraping at it with his fingernail leads me to think maybe so.
If you read his lips shaw says "man you're too great! I'm just a bum when I'm in your presence. .... how can I improve my game dakota?!"
SVB say "practice lil worrior, you'll get there."
I could be off a lil here and there but that's the jist
Wanna come over later for beers?
Or could have been the rail first shot on the 1 then all the way around the table without hitting anything and ending straight on the 2. "Shane that was fookin lucky."
What Cue stick is Jayson Shaw using, does anybody know? It is a beauty. I usually dont appreciate cues with no handle wrap, that one however...that is gorgeous
its peri pro series
tbh the first time i watched a DCC 9 Ball tournament i thought it was the 90s - 00s, idk why but it really gives me the vibe of it.
Amazizng match love it
Shaw is amazing when he's shooting long across the pasture....good technique.
jeremy and mark are the goat commentators
We Persian have an adage “ don’t thank God before eating the food” eat the food firstand then thank God.A message for commentators, don’t rush for celebration and don’t be biased .Just comment don’t take sides.Great match, I have watched it more than twenty times.
Beautifully played by both players!
.773 stat is way below what Shaw usually shoots.
@@do_notknow_much true, but that Stat doesn't take into account everything like difficulty of layout etc
Gracias por avisar
Jeremy, God bless you brother. You're awesome! 🙏🏼🤟🏼❤️
53:24 Why Shaw touches the middle of the rail to announce the shot?
fun one to watch
I think the name "Eagle Eye" doesn't come from his eyes,
but on its ability to turn its head 180 degrees. He walks to his chair, still looking at the table.
I guess they don't use the shot clock, or are very generous with it. E.g. at 1:21:13 SVB is way over time. But happens a lot. So why even run the clock?
If you are down on the shot before the clock runs out you can stay down as long as you want and still leagally shoot. If you stand up after the clock runs out it's your extension. If you don't have an extension standing up is a foul. This rule is unique to this tourny AFAIK.
Did Shaw call the bank on the 1 at 1:00:17 ? I never saw him call it. He looked like he was going for a defensive play
JJ, please use your super powers to rid the world of jump cues forever.
I don't put much blame on the ref for not correcting who's breaking the next rack, I'm sure it's easy to fall into a lull and let the process automate itself when you have players of this caliber at the table. Still, ref's gotta be on his toes.
At 44:20 what kind of technique is this body position?
Shane is the billiards GOAT
Can someone tell me about the rack their using?
Oops...they're using.
@@bigknocker2264 Google Majic Rack Pool. They are little thin films with holes to hole the balls in place. You can get very consistent and tight racks. But using them the pros got a little too good at repeating consistant breaks. That's a big reason why they rack the nine on the spot for nine ball these days if using those types of racks.
they respect each other
What size are the pockets on these 10ft tables?
1:53:56 i’m not sure if the white ball doesn’t hit the rail, need a slow motion replay i think
4 ball hit a rail doesn't matter if the cue ball did
my bad wrong shot... yeah cue ball never hit a rail
Nice Shane!!
@1:01:22 is that squirt contributing to the miss?
Also, is Shaw a dominant right-eyed player? Looked like he has the cue aligned directly under his right eye.
Looks like a line drive in the box score. Lol, gold.
First time I feel like the commentators really know what they're talking about. Great insight.
What was Shaw jawing about with Shane at the end?
33:29 who is Stu Montana? Can anyone enlighten me please
Edit: Ive seen the face before. But Finally put a name to the face. And after looking Stu up on AZBilliards, I just want to say, THANK YOU STU! God bless.
I have the same question. always see him on these matches and now that Mark said his name want to know more who he is. I'll do some research (his name is Stuart Mattana)
JJs pool IQ is out of this world ... Great ambassador for pool as well.
Announcers were wrong dam near everytime on shoot selection. Nothing wrong with not guessing at what the pros are doing.
@44:25 I've never seen that technique before.
Mark Williams (snooker)
Definitely gonna use it now as a leftie
cloth is so quick!
For those of you who've watched a lot of TAR matches ...
glad we don't have to hear Cotton rattle on about peeench with JJ. 🙂
Why are these videos so low quality.
Pool doesn't produce a ton of money so they don't have millions to spend on cameras, and it's a two hour video, if you want it in 4k it's gonna take a week to upload.
Next time use your brain before commenting
Wonder what shaw was saying at the end in a way it looked like Shane tapped the ball in the last rack in end shoots
One of these commentators is such a fucking know it all.
Why is this on a 10 foot table?
How big is the table Looks huge 😂
10 foot
Both are goat
Shaw looked kinda stoned at the begining of this lol great match
1:09:20 SVB misses by nearly a diamond. 😲
1:56 20 what an awesome shot!
Went from eagle eye to Cockeyed in a matter of 2 hrs.
39:52 tell me the rack wasn’t crooked
Jeremy Jones gets paid by the word.
Shane's REVENGE on the Big Boi
1:14:32 thought he used reverse for that shot but must have shifted to running. Surprised by that miss
I thought that because he was jacked and hit high he imparted excessive top. Liked your comment.
I bet the players these days are happy Efrem Reyes got old 😂😂😂
@ 1:56:08 kind of risky... n!ce shot on the 9 to get to the 10.
@ 1:59:04 1ball in the corner, then around the table 3 rails with this leave for the 2ball, through traffic.
SVB got a little unlucky on games 4 5 and 6.
RIP head phone users.
Can any of you explain me why do pool players roll their fingers under bridge? Looks so weird....
I can't think of any logical reason other than extra stability. It certainly doesn't seem necessary.
@@MikeyD22 I thought it's more stable on 4 finger tips. At least in snooker but that do I know....
@@agareja1 I agree with you and use all four fingers on the table myself.
@@MikeyD22 I play snooker all my life and never seen it.
Probably just more comfortable for them, no advantage or disadvantage
GUYS...was that a shark move attempt by Eagle Eye ?
Look at how he picks up the TWO pieces of chalk, and sits them back down. 1:05:40
Or maybe just innocent nerves or instincts ?
I think just nerves after having missed a simple shot.
All match (before that) Shaw moved Shanes chalks around. Whether moving them out of line of sight or out of the cue stick path. Shane didn’t seem to mind and kept leaving them at the table.
So I think it was just nerves/in the moment/he’d been grabbing them the whole match.
@@ponfiripatato Fair enough friend.
I think he just couldn't believe the ball stayed up and picked up the chalk to walk back to his chair like he normally would, then realized he made a mistake grabbing both and just put them down. I noticed it at the time as well but in this instance I don't think there was any malintent.
He was moving them closer to Shane's table approach position so Shane wouldn't have to walk around for it.
He was bitching about the no rail foul at the end
American Pickers Jeremy!
Stop talking so much and just let us watch
(says the APA 3 rank who gets angry when a 7 or 9 rank calls a timeout on him)
@@DanBaytlor-lz4hs😂😂😂
Agreed…Jeremy Jones best commentator ever….
Announcers are annoying..mute
😄❤❤❤
Could SVB Do anything wrong and the announcers would admit to it?
Someone please tell Jeremy Jones you don't need to talk that much. Way too much commentary. Just let the men play some pool. Time to mute you Jeremy.
Shane, start hitting the gym again
Spoiler shield 🛡️
Jeremy talks waaaaaaay too much
Stop muming all the time. Not cool.
Mark is too academic. Jeremy is experienced. Big difference. I'd gamble with Mark.... not so much with JJ
LOL GAY STICK PAAN NJIR
Is it just me that thinks Jayson Shaw looks like the monster pedo from Sin City
Jayson Shaw looks rough. Needs to dry out for a while
Shaws lucky ass leaves. Can’t stand the dude.
