  • At least two people were killed and one wounded in a knife attack at the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on Tuesday, Portuguese police and a Muslim community leader said.
Officers shot the attacker after he refused to lay down his weapon and approached them with a large knife. He was arrested and taken to hospital.
Prime Minister António Costa told reporters everything indicated that it was an isolated act, and it was premature to make any interpretation about the crime.

When I read the article, I already knew the killings had to do with an Islam center. It's sad that our mental conditioning already associates these acts with a certain group of people. Live in Portugal in peace or go back to your own countries. You are welcome here, but this killing in the name of your religion and dogmatic beliefs is not acceptable.

The person killed 2 Ismaili women who lived in peace in Lisbon & worked at the centre (one of them was a distant cousin of mine so yes I know what I am talking about). The Ismaili community are one of the most peaceful religious communities in Lisbon & have a very good relationship with the president. The killer apparently had mental health issues. The Ismaili faith does not condone killing anyone. To my understanding any proper religion wouldn't condone killing either (unless they are a fundamentalist nutcase who can only be classified as barbaric as opposed to religious in my view).

@@shayonyoutube I am sorry for the loss of your cousin and I apologise if I was presumptious. I assumed he had murdered local Portuguese (as many news outlets were saying they were investigating the possibility of a terror attack). In anycase, my points still remain, namely: 1) My mind automatically connected the attacks to an Islam center with no prior context - which turned out to be right, even though the reasons differs & 2) Using phrases like "most peaceful relgion" once again reiterates my point of dogmatic belief - followers of Islam often regard themselves "higher" and their relgion "better" than everyone else - even in countries where the majority of people follow a different faith. I truly do not mean to be bigoted, but I feel being open and honest with my thoughts. I am Portuguese and I like all people and welcome all people. I just don't want to see my country become a hotbed of radicalism as is the case with a lot of other Western European countries. So, once again, I am sorry for your loss and I hope you know you are welcome in our country - as long as the feelings of mutual respect and prioritization of a peaceful order is reciprocated.

Just for clarity - both the women were Portuguese (born & bred) & of the Ismaili faith (the two are not mutually exclusive). I obviously didn’t say anything about thinking Ismailis are superior to any other faith. The terrorist aspect was suspected as a hate crime AGAINST the Ismaili faith. The two ladies both worked to support refugees helping with teaching/food/other support, all of which the centre provides to help these people settle safely in Europe (& sadly they were killed by one of them).

@@shayonyoutube I see, thank you very much for clarifying this and you are right, the two are not mutually exclusive. I did not mean to upset you and I am appreciative of you taking the time to explain the situation so well - I have a much clearer understanding now than what I had yesterday. In the end, any loss of life (whoever it may be) is tragic. Also, my musing above is less of a challenge towards Ismaili faith but more a criticism of the contention between Islam and Christinaity in general. I know both sides do wrong. However, my stance was that if Portugual is mainly a Christian country, and it should allow and welcome all other cultures, creeds and ethnicities in and must do so without prejudice and bias. However, in cases where radicalism rears its ugly head, it must be swift in addressing the matter to avoid undesired escalations and if that means sending "flagged" people home, then so be it. That's my view, which is obvisouly subjective, however, I do believe it is a viewpoint shared by many. Peace and saftey comes before all else.

@SA A on further reading this, it is clear that this was an "Islam" attack. The man murdered two women, who, although Portuguese by nationality, are not Portuguese by ethnicity. So your "Born and Bred" statement is not accurate and a lie. Moreover, he killed them for not wearing hijabs and, on further inspection, these attacks against Ismaili centers are common occurrences around the world, specifically in Muslim countries. The irony is that not even a sect of Islam (like Ismaili) is free from the dangers of Islam itself. Islamic followers the world over seek refuge in Western countries only to spread their hatred, violence, and insecurity. Instead of acknowledging and accepting this fact, you (a follower of Islam) went into a defensive mode. Once again, time and time again, the poison that is the doctrine of Islam manifests itself in these barbaric acts, and when the West retaliates, you play the "victim." This is unacceptable. Your religion is not peaceful and the people who follow it are not safe to be around - if this were the case there would be no need for these incoming refugees to escape the war torn, unstable, and regressive countries they come from. If Islam was so good, it would manifest in safe, equal, and tolerant countries. Westerners do not go to Islamic controlled countries and entrench their doctrine, nor do they kill or hurt people, especially not when they are there on the generous graces of the host country. Unacceptable.

Large knifes are illegal to carry in Portugal, so are most firearms. The good news is that here in Portugal we have very little violent crime, compared to other countries, that a knife attack makes headlines.Another difference is that the alleged perpetrator was shot once, and is alive and in custody.

@@thefridaynetwork Who knew if something was illegal, some people would still do it! Maybe we should get rid of all laws as they're clearly not stopping any crimes, right? Seriously, are you new to the real world? Not to mention that attacks like this one are virtually unheard of in Portugal, and they're one of the safest countries in the world, even with so many "evil immigrants and refugees", so clearly they're doing something right :)

The leader, who's over 15million followers, gets an outrageous surpassed amount of money from them for his own personal enjoyment so that he can live in a vast estate in Aiglemont France and have countless properties abroad, personal jets, yatch, helicopters etc. In return when his own followers are in a desperate need for financial help turns to a food bank and homelessness and in a worst cost of living crisis doesn't even get a penny from him. Instead they are humiliated as they were beggars. Western developed countries knows his actions that he and his predecessor been getting vast income for over 100 years, but still he's been able to get away with it. His followers have also been in prison for money laundering for him in the past. He also owns the bank to hide his wealth and launder it easily. Killing of these 2 innocent women would never have happened if the killer who's also his follower would have been given good help. Pictures of these women or any memorial will never be put where the killings took place. Salim Lalani has been doing the podcast naming and shaming the community leader for over two years Please listen to him on UA-cam.

He HAD been given help, our leader has many organizations such as the AKDN and AKF which helped him, along with many other Ismailis (such as my family) to escape totalitarian rule in East Africa and Central Asia. Our leader paid for his housing and to help him learn Portuguese, through and organization called FOCUS. From organizations like these, Ismailis have become very successful. The problem here was not a lack of help. And, by the way, a memorial HAS been set-up for these two women.
