I’ve been to Portugal 7 times and have really enjoyed it each and every time! Some of my own pointers: 1. Yes, do try the different kinds of Port wine. But also try Dao (dry red wine), Vinho Verde (“green wine”- really a sweet white wine- it’s drunk like pop over there! Madeira (similar to Port, but not as sweet) and Gigingna (cherry liqueur). And the beer is good too- Sagres and Super Bock! 2. (For Catholics): don’t forget to bring home a statue of Our Lady of Fatima- especially if your friends are placing bets on whether or not you’ll get one! 😂 And do visit Fatima too, BTW! 3. Invest in some Vista Alegre 1824 China- beautiful fine china- makes a great souvenir and even impresses the tour guides!😊 4. Don’t become addicted to the local olives (though that may be easier said than done!😂)! 5. Invest in a pair of shoes there. The Portuguese know their shoes- they are some of the most comfortable on the planet!🌍 Which leads to 6. Expect to do a lot of walking in Portugal. Fortunately, many Portuguese towns are made for getting around on foot. You may be sore the first couple of days, but it’s great exercise! 7. Do try to get to at least one beach. The Algarve, the Atlantic coast- they’re beautiful!😊! 8. If you have the money, invest in an Arraiolos carpet. They’re like Persian or Oriental rugs. 9. Attend a Fado concert. Fado is the traditional folk music of Portugal and you get a real taste of the culture that way! Amalia Rodrigues was the top Fado singer of her day and her recordings are still available. 10. Most importantly: do have fun while in Portugal!😊❤

Gosh- its beautiful in Portugal! I tend to stay away from driving and opt for trains. Its more of an added stress to figure out the navigation and parking whereas taking the train is hassle-free. Thanks for the all the travel tips!
I loved Portugal when I visited in 2022, would love to go back soon! Great video! I do wanna add to the point of being able to speak English with people: in my experience this was true 95% of the time in Lisbon. But outside Lisbon (I went to Coimbra and Porto, and used some local trains), that was more like 50-50 sometimes in my experience. So my advice would be to also learn some stuff beyond yes/no/thanks, like "where is the bathroom", "do you have a table for x people", "can I have the bill" and "what dish/drink would you recommend". Went a long way for me at least, and it's greatly appreciated since you show effort and interest in the culture and language!
Love Lisbon. Flew in in 95ish and could see the cod drying on roofs. Love the tiles. The food. The music. I did get told off for pronouncing a phrase like it was Spanish.
wow Wow!! I was amazed the way you speak about my Portugal from start to finish. Let me tell you, I never heard any English speakers with such great pronunciation of "Guimaraes" Coimbra, Evora and Bom Jesus - You're a star and should be very proud of yourself
Overall, Wolters's World amazing vlog for Portugal was a testament to his talent, dedication, and passion for creating exceptional content. He no doubts deserve high praise for the outstanding work, and I can't wait to see what he have in store for us in the future.
Boy, you just about covered everything in this video.I can only add that I concur with you that Portugal is a great, affordable place to visit. Speaking of the Algarve, there's a reason so many Europeans are there. It's a great place to retire to. Plenty of English speakers there because of so many retired Brits there. It's affordable and warm and the healthcare costs are low.
I'm British and Portugal and Britain has the oldest alliance in the world, there is a reason for that , Britain is our body but Portugal is our soul, in other words there is no where on earth as beautiful as Portugal
I love Portugal! I also tell people if you are going to be there a little while take a short flight over to Madeira. It's a beautiful island and you can find a flight for like 30dollars on easy jet
I loved your video, thank you for being so positive about Portugal and honest, I spoke with great enthusiasm , I am Portuguese living in Canada, I miss Portugal very much, and videos like yours gives me the great desire to return home
Mr. Wolters World in this vlog displayed his exceptional skills in storytelling, videography, and editing. Thank you very much for your video, the only time that we had appetizers placed on our table without asking for them was in an upper scale restaurant, all of the middle class restaurants where we ate, never pushed us into eating something that we didn’t order.
I love Portugal. I'm going back again in June and September. Anyway here is one dont for you Mark. My friend was walking around Porto without a t shirt on because of the heat. He got told off from the locals in the street to cover up.
As a Portuguese, I'm gobsmaked with your Portuguese accent, and your culture knowledge of my country, my friend, thank you so much to share and advise other tourists to have the best possible holiday in Portugal, god bless, keep up the good work... 🎉🎉
Me and my wife absolutely loved Portugal!! I highly recommend doing a food tour we were able to find some non tourist restaurant that opened before 7pm.
Going to Lisbon for a month in November of 2024. We do "Castle and Cathedral" tours. I know the wine and food will be great. I hope they have good beer. We have spent enough time (months) in Barcelona (Catalonia) so we are not surprised that language are are matters of local selection
Great tips as always! We haven't figured out where to go for our fall vacation, husband brought up Portugal and Spain. I learned a ton from this video and am inspired to research more. Thx!
If you plan to walk be prepared for huge hills especially in Porto. For older folks it is challenging. Be aware of the castle towns, which have ancient stone roads and hilly paths.
All perfect advise. THIS is an amazing video! I love it there and have been to almost all of the places youve mentioned and agree with all of the above. thank you for what you do!
Good for you. However, if you have some French, you'll find that a lot of Portuguese people have a decent grasp of that language. This is because they'll have lived in France at some time in their lives or have family there. In some towns in Northern Portugal in the summer you sometimes can't move for cars with French number plates (exiles who have popped home for the summer to see Mom and Dad).
If you rent a car in Portugal (or anywhere in Europe), bear in mind that most vehicles rented are equipped with manual transmission. If you’re not familiar or comfortable with using a clutch and shifting gears, rental agencies do rent automatic transmission vehicles, but they’re few and far between and are more expensive to rent.
I’m glad I stumbled onto Wolters World! I’ll be landing in Lisbon in a week and I’ll be staying for almost 3 weeks!! I want to get off the beaten path so I’ll be getting a rental MV. Thanks very inspirational vid..
I am portuguese and I love your videos. I would add a "don't" and that is don't order sardines with fries! 😂 That's a big no no! You eat sardines with boiled or smash potatoes (batatas a murro) or a slice of corn bread, roasted peppers, tomato and lettuce salad. And please, don't say "gracias" 😂
I’ve watched a bunch of your videos. From Vancouver Canada and heading to Lisbon and Lagos in a week. My home country (but never been) your information has been so handy! Thanks ‘er, Obrigado!

Great tips! Love your Portugal videos! Very helpful for our trip in April. Do you have recommendations for a Traveling VPN plan, E-sims, & for guys safety: a neck wallet or travel belt? Thanks!
Oh lol, some of the things Wolter touched here dont apply to Madeira Island. 1st we drive a lot slower, 2nd " most " of the stores are open on weekends, 3rd and more importantly don't rent a car here, Madeiran roads can be scary as hell, so most tourists end up driving extremelly slow and ruining every one's ( natives ) life.
