Hey Justin, I just wanted to take a moment to express how grateful I am for your guitar videos. I've been scouring the internet for quite some time now, but I always seem to come back to yours. Your ability to teach with empathy and a charming personality truly sets you apart. I've learned so much from you and what I appreciate the most is that you have a knack for breaking things down in a way that's easy for beginners like me to understand. Your patience and calm demeanor is refreshing, and I never feel overwhelmed or stressed when learning from you. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and skills with us. It's truly invaluable.

After looking at a number of videos , I came upon this one. Trying to learn jazz chords through trying to play a song " Autumn Leaves" wasn't working. I could work out the finger positions, but didn't understand why.
A little back ground, I played in a band in High school, in the 60's, keyboards, and played around a little with the guitar player guitar, and have pretty much always had a guitar, but didn't truly understand the neck. This opened my eyes a lot.
I can do the usual stuff, open and bar chords, and I can hear tunes and work out a lot, but jazz is what I like, and would like to learn. I recently acquired a nice "jazz box" , so now I'm committed . Thank you . jeff

    Hi Justin
Love the way you present your lessons, very clear and easy to follow. Just one request, and this also goes to many of the comments that people have made in the replies below. I teach guitar, and ALL my students from the age of 9 upwards are required to learn the open string notes and the notes on the E (1 or 6 they are the same but you will use 6 more as your root notes) and the A strings. I teach this in the first lesson and within 30 minutes all my students get it. How can you play a barre chord if you don't know the notes on the E or A strings? So my advice to everybody learning guitar - learn the notes on the fretboard. It's not difficult guys. Keep up the good work Justin.

I await with bated breath, trousers and jam for the forthcoming Jazz Standards lessons you alluded to. Perhaps understanding a mechanical one would help us earthlings better understand twiddling with our knobs on our digital hoof-boxes.

If see a minor thirdb5 or a 6 I have probably have a a min or dimin. chord. That is unbelievably helpful in half dim 7 chords.

Go to this link, that's 10 minutes of the same 4 chords. Can't believe I was actually fkn doing it! Felt like FINALLY I KNOW HOW TO JAZZ.
If you want to do the scale, it's G scale or Em, just play with both. It works.

This is really a great lesson.A year ago I would not have understood it because I had to learn the string names and the notes on each fret.I would have been lost.I learned no e sharp and no b sharp

THANK YOU you are a good teacher. It helped a lot too when you say think of this chord as like this chord but instead put your fingers here
So funny cos I've been playing since I was 10 but all I've got to show for it is power chords xD
I mainly been into crust, black and death metal so rather than just stick with power chords I'm trying what funky things I can do to bring to the genre
I've listened to Django reinhardt a bunch but never tried to play jazz at all really
    Thanks again :)

Justin. I just did Fly me to the moon chord melody style. I tried it in Gmin in stead of A min..as my classical guitar has a shorter neck.
Anyways.I started in G min7 in 7th position. And played it in a different voicing than usual but it sounds good. I will shortly be getting some of your paid material. Had to buy another car..was tired of working on it.
I guess I could sell my guitar.
Naaaash .No way .had it for years.
