Nice work, so jealous of the cooling system you've installed. Need that badly for my 08 in Florida. You corectly point out the heat sink issues with the M113K engine. Too bad MB didn't do a better job on the intercooler for the 55 as they subsequently did with the modified M113k on the SLR. Curiously, where did you source your Killer Chiller, Forced Induction in Australia? Centerline currently run 9.8 in the quarter, fastest on record. I bet your monster eclipses that number! Good luck.
Thanks man! Yeah the chiller is crazy! We’ve been reading intake temps down in the 60s on a 100 degree day here in Utah after driving the car for about 20 mins so it’s working wonders for sure. I put a link in the description of this video to where we picked up our chiller setup. That’s so cool, we’d love to eventually get this thing sub 10 seconds it would be amazing.
This is not actually correect- the "link" between the engine coolant circuit and supercharger circuit is a small tube that basically ensures that the supercharger circuit always has coolant in it, but you are not running engine coolant temperature coolant through the supercharger. In fast, if you isolate the two circuits you'll find the actual temp drop in the IC circuit is negligible- even though VRP and everybody else sells an isolation kit. Nobody mentioned FUEL as the reason you got detonation- even though fuel is a huge factor. One BIG advantage of a methanol or alcohol injection system is it lowers detonation risk by changing the fuel to an alcohol based mixture that is less prone to both detonation or preignition. One thing a lot of people don't consider and then blow up their engines in the spring is that OLD fuel degrades by the octane braking down into heptane and then hexane, greatly increasing detonation risk- and why it is so so important to have FRESH fuel for high boost. But thern again if you werre running a 700HP tune withoiut and cooling mods, expecting the computer to pull timing fast enough to save the engine is, well, I don't think even possible at that boost level. Even with a 74 clutched pulley you need some kind of cooling mods unless it's winter, with a fixed pulley obviously the SC cannot declutch so you are relying solely on timing dialback to save the engine and any kind of thermistor in the intake tract is going to have some lag just in the time it takes the actual element to change temperature. Good luck.
Charles I just bought the drag valve from Joe at Kinkaid Performance (Killer Chiller). We'll be adding that and logging some Temps in another video. Watch for it. Thanks for the support.
Guys fantastic video.. I own a couple AMG's one being an sl55 which looks just like yours, except stock engine exhaust etc.... I recently changed all 4 struts and hydraulic pumps. So this is a costly car but I love it.. Just curious but is your dad a Benz mechanic - he appears to know specifics on the M113k .. Have you changed the steering to a flat bottom, and if so, any advice on where to buy ?
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the coil over conversion was definitely the better option over paying 12k to service the ABC. My dad loves Mercedes and has owned a few in his years, just does tons of research on each platform he owns, and this being such an amazing engine he has tried to learn as much as possible on forums and talking with other owners. We picked up a flat bottom carbon fiber steering wheel off of eBay that we will be installing in a video very soon!
Came out the rear wing from that car.this car is class car.this car is best cruise performance car.this rear wing is for other cars not for AAAA++++ class car.i have the same from greece.all the other car tuned amazing
Congrats on getting her up and running again! Curious, was the white smoke sweet smelling (coolant) or like raw gas? Have read several instances of these aging 55 cars getting a stuck injector, which can flood, hydrolock and kill a cylinder(s) along with obvious fuel smelling white smoke. Still makes me nervous on my own.
I can’t remember exactly, it was awful tho. When we drained the oil it was like a milkshake with metal shavings in it haha. We’re glad to have it back also
As a fellow sl55 owner and a g500, 500sl, gl 450.... basically we are all in.... please.... for the love of Pete...., take that fucking wing the fuck off. I'll pay for it, seriously.
Thanks man! Verde Axis wheels, silver Neo coilovers, carbon fiber wing, diffuser, and front lip, black series grill, blacked out headlight housing, powder coated the Brembos yellow.
"and pops is drinking from the hose" 😂😂😂 fr fr, i want to be pops when i grow up!
The relationship between you and your dad 💯
Love it! Thank you for vlogging the life of this amazing car (it's demise and resurrection). This will always be fun to have to remember.
Love you pops!
You are an incredible dad! Thanks for sharing this great Dad and Son project with us. For this alone I subscribed!
🤘🏽🤘🏽
I am happy to see your "pops" got his car running again! Can't wait to see what the future has in store for the car!
ONLY START SCREAMING WHEN YOUR VOICE STOPS CRACKING LOL NICE CAR THO
Mine is 2004 …
And I love that car …
Nice job guys 👍🏼👍🏼😁
Can’t wait till the AMG is fully ready to go! Congrats on finally getting it back 💪
Thanks man!!🔥
im loving this.
Really nice build. Good luck to you guys!
What size supercharger pulley should I go with cause I am currently upgrading the intercoller and intake. Going to do exhaust later.
Even with the connected coolant system, it never really mixes the fluids unless theres a loss or too much fluid in intercooler side
No cooling mods definitely did it. When it gets above 150f, not only does the ecu pull a crap ton of timing, but also dumps in a bunch of fuel.
The wing looks amazing… Can you give me the link where you bought it?
Issa eBay wing!🤣

That wing. Jesus lord why would they put that wing on such a nice car!
Ever heard of downforce? We’re thinking of putting a bigger one on actually, stay tuned! 🤗 #antipurist
I was told that the O rings in the oil sump go bad from being old. And that causes to have low oil pressure which grenades the engine
Can use the convertible with the wing
Yes
Hello TMW YT - what kind of mufflers you run? Besides MBH LT headers, do you have X pipe and 3 inch T304 tubing installed?
Thank you
We are currently building the rest of the exhaust, keep an eye out for that video which will show you everything! 🔥

Do you still have your supercharger pulley the old one
No
Nice to see the car back! Are you installing the drag chiller system by chance?
Charles I just bought the drag valve from Joe at Kinkaid Performance (Killer Chiller). We'll be adding that and logging some Temps in another video. Watch for it. Thanks for the support.

Congratulation and that engine looks one bad a@# engine, how much bhp and trq ?
Not dynod yet but we’re hoping for around 700!

The wing is our favorite part 😈🔥 we’re not building AAA+ cruiser cars here, we like to build the loudest, fastest, and most obnoxious cars possible.
Congrats on getting her up and running again! Curious, was the white smoke sweet smelling (coolant) or like raw gas?

What an awesome car! But what’s up with that wing????
ALL THE DOWNFORCE THIS THING PUTS LIKE 600 DOWN TO THE REAR WHEELS WE AINT TRYNA PULL A MUSTANG MANEUVER
😂😂 A mustang maneuver!!! Classic!!!!
Drop the raceiq and get your ECU plus tcu tube from weistec if you want true numbers
As a fellow sl55 owner and a g500, 500sl, gl 450.... basically we are all in.... please.... for the love of Pete...., take that fucking wing the fuck off. I'll pay for it, seriously.
How bout a bigger one instead? ;)
Do some data login
car looks fucking astonishing, not a fan of the wing but everything else is incredible, what wheels and shit did you do????
