Same here! Although Italian car projects are fun to watch, in most cases they're irrelevant when we know chances of having those kinds of cars is slim for many YT viewers. SL55 is more accessible and more affordable and mod videos on YT isn't overdone like say Supra.
This is what made me find your channel! I was obsessed with the SL55 years back. I found it funny when people was wondering where other more recent projects were and I was still waiting on the SL55.
This is where my journey began with Tavarish. I can clearly remember the episode starting with SL in the driveway...instant subscriber and fan ever since
4:14 that's an easy fix, remove the switches and clean the built up rust under it. I had a similar problem in my E class. Water tends to get easily accumulate under the switches

you have to connect a jump pack to the terminals to keep the alarm and immobiliser from going off. as the smart alarm system stops u from stealing it by just discounting the batteries all European cars are like this since 2006. Always go diesel gear box to carry the torque

Part of what you said is correct on the clutch but I have and still do daily drive a twin disk and now have a triple disk and have zero issues daily driving it in traffic or hills cause I do live in New Mexico and the terrain is well all over the place ..

$8900 SL55 Reason I started watching this channel way back to begin with. I own an SL55 and used to own a 99 VR4 w custom turbos and full bolt ons . Would be great if you continued putting out vids on the small things that plague this platform for instance the top not working... you would def get a ton of people tuning in. Including me. Update on the SL55? Gotta get around to mine it’s been on the back burner cuz of my GTR, E55 and F250 rn lol
Modern cars are weird. Instead of the button closing the connection and running the moter you press it and it tells a brain box in the car to run the moter. Its built in obsolescence. Like my dads gauge cluster in his 04 explorer sport trac when you remove the gauge cluster the alternator doesnt charge. Companies dont want tge cars to last too long or you wont need to buy a new one.
I’ve had a 2003 SL500 before and it constantly had issues- hydrolics, batteries, top issues, vacuum lines, etc. I worked on it all the time and got fed up with it and sold it. I recently picked up a super clean one owner 2007 E550 with essentially the same engine but this thing is super clean. Ive just added quad tips, rear diffuser, carbon fiber spoiler, and front carbon fiber lip. I’m an next installing carbon fiber side skirts. Also took your advice and installed the Seicane stereo with Apple CarPlay to bring it up to today’s generation. The car is super awesome. My daily driver is my company leased Maserati Ghibli and ive put 35k miles on it in 2 years and so far it has needed 2 oil changes, brakes and tires. I love it. It goes back at the end of the year and I am buying my gift to myself an Audi R8 for my 50th this year!! Your channel is an inspiration and I try to watch your content weekly during workouts! There is a guy, XF motorsport on youtube, he actually did the manual swap and more already, I must say, that you are late. And more, I bought an SL partly because of your videos :) its a 500 but still great car. Did the black series conversion and also same suspension swap.
It sounds just normal. I have a new pump in mine SL55. And the pump is build toghether with the ABC system. It should sound like this when you start the engine. So, just normal!
@ Asllan Muqaj ... it’s not just the Supercharger but also the air pumps that whine like this on start up. A lot of German V8s sound like this on cold start up.
I think its possibly with Sam Crac, I saw a Soarer in the background of one of his videos and someone on Instagram spotted one under a cover on one of the new Bendpak lifts.
Gearbox from E270CDI (w210, w211) should do the job. Had it tuned for 500Nm and OEM clutch was fine. Over 500 Nm there was a problem but guys in UK as far as I remember had some solutions. There are plenty of diesel Mercedes hardcore tuned in Europe with manual gerbox.

I have an SL500 (2004). Couple of things that might help you. The front battery only does the start and ignition, it’s rare to have a problem. It eats the rear battery so I have an external charge point. It goes through a fuse in case somebody thinks it funny to short it out. It’s a problem with a lot of mercs that the pumps fail. This is mainly due to water in the boot. Drill a few 1/8 holes under the pump to stop any moisture build up.
After watching your video for the coilovers in your SL I did the conversion also. I just removed the whole ABC module from under the dash and it only gives a soft warning that you can cycle away, no angry red ABC failure light
I'll look forward to this. In these 2 years I've learned to drive, had a few cars, learned basic engines and bought my own wee SLK in Scotland to sort out. Time flies :D
I have been watching AMGmeister and Legitstreet cars , both whom swear by this 5.4 engine with the kompressor. I am going to watch your series because I am aiming to buy either C55, CLS55 or E55 AMG next year ! SL55 is not for my climate in UK. I think it's a great idea to put a manual gearbox in your car (2 door coupe). I think I would try and aim for comfy solution as priority to keep the Mercedes feel, but if not available just go for aggressive clutch. I will be interesting to see which car the gearbox will come from. M5 sounds like good donor. The 5 speed automatics in C55 and E55 are being reviewed as slow in reaction, so this would definitely please car enthusiasts who crave manuals :)
Can't wait for you to install the manual transmission in the SL55! I'll be sure to pull my '09 SL600 out of storage to do the same once you found some suppliers for the kit.

Incidentally, it's also how I discovered B is for Build (The Mustang vs G35 build off) but didn't actually watch a video until his BRZ 2JZ swap. That was like 3 years ago now.
