    I feel you on the pixel peeping, especially for wedding photography. The overall image and how it makes your couples feel is the end goal. Glad someone else feels the same way.

      Exactly. People feel fufilled with iPhone photos so the moments you capture matter WAY more than them than "perfect image quality". Photographers be doing TOO much sometimes not realizing that it's diminishing returns.

    Thank you John!! About the grip, I got the SmallRig L-Shape grip for XT5 and it is wonderful. Now my XT5 feels absolutely great in my hand.

    Coming from the XT3/4 and now XT5. I don't find there is a hit on high iso performance at all, in fact I found there is less color noise in shadow areas. The autofocus is way improved, especially with AF-C subject tracking. I love the in camera digital teleconverter as well, very handy if I want to do SOOC.

    Great you mentioned purchasing older gear. With all that said - it sometimes looks like all we need is new cameras - but there is nothing wrong to still use something like xt3.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 роки тому +2

      Exactly. Honestly the main reason I ended up upgrading is because my X-T3s are a little old now and I wanted to be able to make content on the new X-T5. If it were just me running my business and not making UA-cam videos I would have rode out my X-T3 for a bit longer. It’s still an amazing camera.

    I shoot with the Nikon Z6 II, which has a fairly large group of haters because of its poor continuous eye-AF, which I don't use.
    During weddings, when someone is walking towards me, or during the wedding party intros before dinner, and they come running in like jackrabbits, I select the wide/large AF point, so the camera has more surface area to find focus. I also use this on the dance floor, and especially when it's really dark, and I can hit shots at ISO 6400, 1/200s at ISO f/1.4. It locks on...
    I'm not sure if you're using a larger AF point, if not, give it try...
    I am most curious about the X-T5's low light focus ability. Nikon is now really touting this feature with their cameras (called AF-Sensitivity on their spec sheet). The $2,000 Z6 II goes as low as -6, Sony's best, I believe goes to -5 ($5000 A9 III, the $6,500 A1 goes to -4). Nikon $2,000 ZF goes to -10 (new benchmark).
    7 years ago, I remember my old D750 was -3, and that was very good compared to my old D610, which was -1, which was damn awful. But the low-light hit rate on the D750 still kinda sucked. With the Z6 II, I hardly miss a thing on a dark dance floor.
    I used to shoot with the X-T2, and it felt so sluggish like the D610, so kept the D750 for dark receptions.
    If the X-T5 is as good as the Z6 II, it would be worth it for me to switch back to Fuji, as I much prefer the smaller cameras, and really miss the dials. ...they make for a great travel kit as well. I used to take my X-T2 everywhere. Now? I rarely pick up the Z6 II when I travel.

    Pixel peeping is for youtube commenters ;) Couples who are getting married never think to themselves, "This photo is nice, but I wonder how good my skin looks if I zoom in 200% *GAAAAK*"
    It doesn't happen. Most couples are relieved you made them look good without adding the unneeded stress (for them) of how they look when they journey down the zoom zoom train.
    Just make sure the grain/noise is within whatever window seems reasonable to you and you'll be good to go.
    Great vid, John. It's funny - I watch your content, don't shoot Fuji, have no plans on shooting Fuji, but there's always helpful nuggets of info for everyone :)

    Glad to hear this!!! Awaiting shipment of my XT5. I don't shoot weddings anymore, but I currently do a lot of headshots, branding portraits and some family sessions. Very happy to hear the XT5 operates like the XT3, because that is what I am coming from. Sidenote: Have you tried the new 18mm 1.4 lens from Fuji? I'm shooting the 33 and the new 56, and I use the X100V as my "23" but I am very curious about the 18 as I love the 28mm FOV for groups and wide shots. Curious if you are planning on trying it! Thanks for the XT5 review. Do another! I'd love to see even more images. You are a great wedding photographer, always inspirational to see your work!

    • @rottenmango

      get the a7iv, feel like the colors are more realistic. With my fuji xt5, I feel like it naturally brings in a greenish film like filter and I spend a lot of time trying to create recipes to fix that. Even then, if I try to go into Lightroom, all of the photos look extremely overfiltered bc of Fuji’s coloring.

    • @jbivphotography

      I shot this wedding on UHS-1 cards that were 170mbs and they felt fine to me. I think as long as the transfer speeds are high you should be good. Obviously UHS-2 would be better, but I was ok with the UHS-1 cards.

    ive watched your videos for a couple of years, love your content. My one "hmmmm" from this video, is while graduating up from 3, to xt4 i realised "dual native ISO" and only shoot at 640 and 3200. I know that sounds weird, but man, maybe do some test runs because there is NO NOISE on the natives, compared to hopping back to 1600 (640 elevated). Once i started to just hold the rule that 640 was outdoor and 3200 was indoor, that "noise" issue became very negligible. My xt5 question for you, (cant tell from your edited shots) is does the sensor still lean toward the red tones like it has notoriously done in past? Or have they tweaked that at all?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 роки тому

      Interesting with the ISO. I actually didn’t know that and might have to try it out on my end. For the colors they do tent to lean more towards magenta which is my favorite thing about them. lol. (there’s a running joke on the channel about me and magenta)

    No freezing issues? Great. There are many with the XH2. With or without flash. So you are very lucky.

    Nice video.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 роки тому

      Nope. I didn't personally have any issues with freezing. Also, here's the biggest secret. I don't use the top dials at all on the X-T series. Never have. So I basically use it like it's a PASM camera which allows me to change my settings quickly and also in the dark.

    Yo John,
    What LED lights and flashes are you using on the camera? I think I need one for events 🤔

      For flashes I’m using the Godoy V860ii(f) and the LEDs are the Lumecube. I love those little things.

    Hey man I've been watching your videos for long time and I'm considering to buy xt5 here in India, while I've been told to get R6 or Sony Alpha 7iii under my budget but I've been impressed by Fujifilm x series far than any other brand, I'm starting my career in wedding photography, so just need your advice. shall I go for Fujifilm xt5 or xh2 (they both have same price almost)

      I have the XH2 and do weddings. I couldn’t recommend that camera more… it’s absolutely incredible. Feels 1,000x better in the hand with it’s grip (needed since we hold the camera all day) and is much faster (cf express card). And I personally prefer the flip screen for awkward angles that the tilt doesn’t do as well with. The EVF is absolutely stunning, like an imax theater. Honestly it feels like a workhorse, build quality and all. My XT3 & XT4 felt more like toys almost, compared to the XH2

      @@Eyeofkamau Thank you so much for in-depth info man, I'll definitely going to buy xh2. I've watched many videos in comparison with canon or Sony but most of them have suggested for xh2 only due to its ergonomics and the features it has

      @@agfotografo there’s always that one person telling others what they need.
      People sell and buy prints, the 40mp is way more suitable in that case. Not everyone just takes the photos and holds them on their phone forever. And the files are indistinguishable at full size… in low light and zoomed in, there is a very noticeable difference where the 40mp outperforms the 26. Keep in mind, it’s 40mp on apsc… not that big of a jump. people say “you don’t need all that” like it’s a gfx 100.

    I feel mostly all Fujifilm photographers tends to talk way too much about gear. Especially if they have some sort of association with the brand.
    I really don’t see what is so special about XT5 looks like baby’s toy.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 роки тому

      ?? Interesting take because talking about gear is one of the least things I do (it's actually a pet peeve of mine. Just happen to be talking about it in this video because people want to know my opinion). Also, it's not a camera brand thing. I see SO many photographers only talk about gear. So I'm not sure where this "fujifilm photographers" is coming from.
