i got it myself today i was originally going to buy chrenicks Shuttle but this puppy Turner out to be really cool and espeaccliy BIG but the troop transport door is just Way to small for putting all kinifigures in you need to flick the doors off to get all inside and even that with extra caution !
Empire has one, Republic has one, Seperatists have one, Resistance has one, First Order has one, Old Republic has one, Sith Empire has one. It's about darn time the Rebels get a unique troop transport.
Feral Fan Productions The GR-75 is not a troop transport. When I said troop transport I meant in the fashion of the LAAT/i. And yes. I meant in-universe ;)
The circular piece behind the cockpit isn’t a reactor as much as it is a power generator. On the real fighter, ground crew pulls that up, and the generator pops out, which has a safety feature where it shuts off the fighter completely. It lowers the lights on the underside viewport, the interior lights, the engines, the doors, the controls, and the weapons. To repair it, you have to pull it out completely with a crane. Just some useless information for any viewers. 🤗
I think the U-Wing is meant to function more as a Gunship/transport like the Republic Gunship rather than a fighter/transport. For a gun ship role it has the side mounted weapons to support ground forces and the forward firing weapons for the pilot to use against tougher ground targets or for a last ditch effort against fighters.
I bought this today...just finished it. Overall i do like it a lot. It DOES have its downsides....1- the turbo engines seem a bit "loosy"...not a fan of that...I like the feeling of when things hang tight together and feel solid. Speaking of solid, 2- The bottom canopy has a piece on top of it (well bottom of it in that case) that just folds on the sides. It does seem pretty loose only hanging on 4x1 studs. Like jang said...i woulda like the doors to open a bit more...fitting someone inside is a pain. Spite of all that, the model looks great, wings feel solid, good set of figurines, and was suprised on the overall size! i give it a 8/10. Worth my money. Hope you guys enjoy it too! I mostly agree with Jang on this video. Great video as always.
+JANGBRiCKS I actually like the concept of this craft. It looks as though it would be extremely versatile, with a configuration allowing for atmospheric flight at low speeds, similar to a Republic Attack Gunship, and then able to convert onto something that could efficiently make hyperspace jumps. If we consider that the Rebels probably had a very short supply of personnel, but a very skilled one, It makes sense to think they would want to make these small units as mobile and flexible as possible, and thus adapt their crafts to this role. Like "Delta Force" in real life, they would have to be able to deploy them across the galaxy for "black ops" infiltration style missions.
Exactly. This is a RESISTANCE vehicle, indicating a severe underdog with very limited resources. Thus the need to make vehicles that fill more than just a single role (i.e. atmospheric assault fighter & troop transport).
So this is what an Incom designed and produced troop transport looks like. As if Admiral Ackbar one day paid a visit to the design office and said: 'Build me a fighter. Make it sleek. Make it look fast. Make it sexy!' And once they were finished he said: 'Now slap a box underneath its fuselage. It'll be perfect!'
I understand all criticism going toward the clunky appearance of the U-wing, but in all honesty, that's what I love about it. It is perfect contrast to the Empire's sleek, efficient military image; a ragtag ship with as many functions crammed into an ugly rust bucket as the Rebels can afford. Just as hang said, it reminds me of a Huey and fighter both, a multi-role ship that's just so fitting for a resistance group.
2:15 yeah, its not like you can grab the canopy from the sides or anything. *edit* sigh, why do people here hijack comments so much? Do you lot even know what the reply function is for? Its for replying! Not for your own separate comments.
Uh, the sides of this canopy are steeply angled in, and unless you have sticky skin it's not in the slightest bit convenient to open it the way you're suggesting. I would have very severely criticized LEGO if they expected us to grab it like that.
I just checked on my T-70s. It's a very different story. Grabbing the sides on those models, works by design. On this model, half of the thing is buried. It's not convenient at all. I definitely stand by my position.
For some reason the design of this just really, really works for me. Great color scheme too, and the deployed s-foils make it look really, really sleek.
Love this set. A very agile somewhat ad hoc looking troop transport that doubles as a fighter makes total sense for the rebels. Love that it's shape is something of a compromise.
I love this set so much!! I was able to fit 4 figures inside the transport capsule :D 2 sitting side by side in the back and the other 2 standing up near the doors
I think that when the details come out for the vehicles in Rogue One it will be revealed that, in the same vein as the 1st order transporter being based off of a B-Wing chassis, the U-Wing fighter was converted into a makeshift troop transporter by sticking on the bottom section from something else, and also putting those extra large engine pods on the back to compensate for the extra load. It really makes sense given the rebel's lack of funding that they cobble together their gear in that way.
I was pretty astonished by the wingspan when I built this. I'm really happy with it overall. I like the design of the ship in-universe, and I think Lego did a pretty good job executing it. The undercarriage is a bit too big, I plan on modifying that soon, but other than that I think it's a great set. I love how sturdy it is and the way the wings click into both positions.
Fun build, but when I got to the lower windshield side covers I wondered why they made it with inverted short angle plates (45 degree corner plate 4x4), instead of a piece that follows the shape of that window. Nothing in the original design indicates that Lego took the best approach here.
I love this set! For Jyn Erso, I took the helmet off because it doesn't look good, so I put Anakin Skywalker's hair pice from the Jedi interceptor. I also took the fabric cover off her as well. With the controls in the cockpit, I put a lever on either side like on the Ghost. When I put minifigs in the troop transport, I take the door "half off" to put figures in. I hate the way you have to put the figures in to use the bay gun as well. I think this is one of the best sets that Lego has made in 2016! I rate it 10/10 👍
One of my favorite Star Wars sets ever! I don't know why but I thought that it needed a rear gunner so I ripped off the back and put a second cockpit in:)
I get that's it's a ship and it would be hard for it to do some stuff with troops in it, but I kinda like its use. It's mainly for ground cover fire so it doesn't have to move as fast as in space. It's wierd how people don't like this, but are completely fine with the at- at , which basically has the exact same concept, besides not being a ship. I'm just saying
This was the first Rogue One set I picked up. While not a lot of room, I love the transport space below. Just enough room to pose some rebels on the swing out guns
not to wrong you jang your awesome but I dont really take it as a fighter and a transport its more of a transport that can defend itself when it gets into a scrap
I was hoping this would be uploaded in the time I got back from school but here I am getting ready for school and I see this :D thanks jang keep up the good work
this u-wing is the set that is winning me over. I wanted to like the tie striker & krennic's shuttle, but the design (especially the underside canopy) is very appealing.
Actually, it says on the wiki that the U-wing has tandem controls, so it can be flown by a single pilot or a two-man flight crew. I bet that's what the bottom canopy is for.
I got this set recently and I think its my new favorite out of all the Lego star wars sets that I own. It just looks awesome. The pilots canopy area is supposedly supposed to have been harvested from a Y-wing fighter and the engines obviously from an X-wing. The canopy at the bottom is not in fact for the pilot to look out of but its the lower decks observation canopy. I know the movie wasn't out yet when you made the review but yeah.
With your comments about the design of the U wing in universe, you have to remember that this is a rebel ship, they don't have the best ships they just get what they can, the u wing obviously wasn't that great of a fighter or troop transporter but that's what they could get.
Hey jang, I think if you extend the wing length a bit the design of the ship will be a lot more accurate, but you'll have to also change where the wings click back into place
This set actually looks a lot better in this review than it does on the LEGO website. I didn't even notice the large window pice on the bottom of the craft when viewing it on LEGO's website. I'm with Jang though, I don't much like the style of this craft in-universe, but I'd say LEGO did a pretty good job with this one ^_^
I kinda like the fact that this craft was probably one of those which might have been considered 'unsuccessful' in the longer term (like those old turret fighters and light bombers a la Defiant or Fairey Battle for you WW2 fans); an idea for a multirole craft that saves money on two different dedicated vehicles but winds up being not really a good return on the outlay. Still, I like the overall aesthetic and can't wait to see the Microfighter reviewed as a comparison. Keep up the solid work Jang. Still liking your reviews' style and content!
Bought this set from Amazon here in the UK where it was on sale for £46, at that price it was well worth it. Just a side note, I believe the small build-able weapon that Jyn Erso has is her baton rather than a launcher
Lego really stepped up their game with the rouge one sets. Although this may not be the most attractive (due to original movie design), Lego truly captured the essence of the in universe ship. I can say the same about Krennic's Imperial shuttle.
In universe it isn't called u-wing fighter. It is u-wing. It is more like the clone gunship than a fighter, however early on in the trailers it was called u wing fighter
I don't know how I feel about it, I thought I really wanted this but the more I look at it I just don't like the white and I think it looks so much better in the trailer
I disagree, looks so unfinished and overly done with CGI (but then again, was just the trailer & probably wasn't as polished as the final product will be in the actual film)
STARFOXxD Because we never see that part. It's been driving me crazy since the leaked pictures. The underside is just never shown at an angle where you can see that window.
Yeah do you think so too? It just looks off in a way I struggle to explain. Maybe it's the way there is just this grey box slung underneath it or something.
Great set up can fit 6 in the troop transport area like the real thing 4 sitting down and 2 standing it helps if u unclipped the red pins and remove the top of the u wing
No joke though this thing is actually great, the contrast of the big underbelly to the top sleek style just makes it more industrial looking, its a really cool unconventional star wars ship
Instead of thinking of it as a starfighter, think rather of it like an Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter, which also has a rather limited troop transport compartment. In both cases, the vehicles act in and as support of troops in battle.
I think more like a Black Hawk/B1 hybrid, if that's even possible to conceive... Thing is, during that period, with the Empire controlling vast areas of the Galaxy, there was nothing close to a "real world" aircraft carrier or allied base from which to deploy short-range black-ops, like the US, France, or even Russia can. So, it would have a role not really comparable to anything in "our" armed forces... It would have to be able to stand on its own during hyperflight AND infiltrate, land on, and possibly fight its way out of planets in atmospheric air battles... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_UH-60_Black_Hawk en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockwell_B-1_Lancer
this is one of the better ones. it's priced like a standard Lego big Mid size set, yet. it has the capability of a large set like the gunship, good use of parts and space overall
from what I gather from having the hot wheels, and Hasbro die cast of the U-wing, the wing blades seem to be used during flight: flip back to add more stability and make it more aerodynamic. It is a transport afterall. the whole look is rather clunky looking but I generally like the design. the lego set made the bays to bulky compared to the rest of the hull, it's not streamlined like how it really is. if they would have extended the nose a bit and widened the body slightly to add in the extra copilot seat, it would have been perfect. I do want this set. just debating if the price is worth it lol.
in many cases it needs to be scaled up more. It needs a double cockpit so K-2S0 and Cassian can pilot it. It's the Chibi first order troop transport all over again
I was surprised to see the return of the UCS T-65 X-Wing cockpit canopy piece! I may be mistaken, but that's pretty unorthodox for a system set, but in a very good way! (and no doubt where a good chunk of price $ comes from, other than big elements)
The only thing that appeals to me are the minifigures and the actual U wing looks like a UA-camr custom built spaceship that also looks like a spaceship from the classic space theme but I do like how the pilot can see down in the sort of bottom window and how it's more of a rebel transport ship and it reminds me of a gunship/transport vehicle from episode 2. Those are my thoughts.
I don't know if I like the in-universe U-Wing design, but in the X-Wing table-top minis game from Fantasy Flight Games the U-Wing looks to be a really sweet addition.
Interesting work as always, Jang. Though I, personally find an odd charm in the design of the U-Wing: both in-universe and in-set. I can see your points as to disliking it, but to me: the design asks the history of the craft. For instance: what planet is it based off of? Was the combination of fighter and carrier necessary to their race, or the wars they fought at the time? Just my opinion, mind. But that's why I find it charming.
After playing the Battlefront Rouge One: Scarif DLC I've grown to LOVE this ships design, I think it looks great in "battle"
Season pass ofc
I am absolutely loving this thing so much
DTinaglia Studios Hi!
DTinaglia Studios yo man good to see ya
DTinaglia Studios HI!

I don't think Jedi defender class cruiser from TOR really counts as troop transport. If that's what you meant.
The_Headless_Horseman No, but they have tons of designs for ships from the Sith war.
Feral Fan Productions The GR-75 is not a troop transport. When I said troop transport I meant in the fashion of the LAAT/i. And yes. I meant in-universe ;)
Feral Fan Productions
Ye, but it is very different from the LAAT/i, see, what I meant was really gunship. The GR-75 is a medium transport as you said.
derp derp cody you just muddled things up
The circular piece behind the cockpit isn’t a reactor as much as it is a power generator. This Lego set was a pain in the butt to build lol
Aron May you made my day

If you think about it, when fighting a galatic war, I don't think elegant design matters.
Exactly. This is a RESISTANCE vehicle, indicating a severe underdog with very limited resources. Thus the need to make vehicles that fill more than just a single role (i.e. atmospheric assault fighter & troop transport).
Tell that to the prequels, golden age of ship designs right there
Luke Evans in the prequels they were rich, we aren’t
So this is what an Incom designed and produced troop transport looks like.

BufferUnderrun the idea of admiral ackbar saying that it should look sexy is hilarious
The Bob Ross of Star Wars Lego. "some friendly little Go Tubes back here".:)
Bought this a couple of years back, still very happy with it
Quite a few of the things in Rouge One were based of the Vietnam War. The U-wing is based of of helicopters with side machine guns.
yeah also the blind asian force sensitive monks in the vietnamese army
Even the machine gun props in the film were modified M60s, which were used heavily in the Vietnam War.
Got that thing for Christmas and I love it
Star wars maverick Reeves I just got it today. And I love it!! I also have all the Last Jedi sets!
My favorite ship in all of the SW universe. Thanks for the review!
Gwyndon what makes this your favorite I'm curious bc its second to the imperial shuttle to me I love the design and have this set ...modified
I understand all criticism going toward the clunky appearance of the U-wing, but in all honesty, that's what I love about it. Just as hang said, it reminds me of a Huey and fighter both, a multi-role ship that's just so fitting for a resistance group.
I think it makes sense for the rebellion to have a little ugliness in their ships. They don't exactly have as much funding as the empire.
2:15 yeah, its not like you can grab the canopy from the sides or anything.
*edit* sigh, why do people here hijack comments so much? Do you lot even know what the reply function is for? Its for replying! Not for your own separate comments.

JANGBRiCKS I can open the canopies of my T-70s like that just fine, and its the exact same piece. Its really not difficult at all.
Do you grab it by the sloped dome, or the vertical ridge around the side?
JANGBRiCKS I grab it from the sides, in line with the studs on the top.
I just checked on my T-70s. It's a very different story. Grabbing the sides on those models, works by design. On this model, half of the thing is buried. It's not convenient at all. I definitely stand by my position.
Happy force friday :D
HFF
Peridot Official thx
Same to you!
Peridot Official #Force Friday
Peridot Official may the 4th seems more appropriate but force Friday is not a bad idea. Sith Saturday booooiiiiii
In my opinion the in-universe U-Wing looks really great, this is a good but not great replication
Tank Reaper Same. He needs another seat in the cockpit.
For some reason the design of this just really, really works for me. Great color scheme too, and the deployed s-foils make it look really, really sleek.
4:03 "They're just big 'ol Go-Tubes"
And this is why Jang is one of my favorite reviewers
Love this set. A very agile somewhat ad hoc looking troop transport that doubles as a fighter makes total sense for the rebels. Love that it's shape is something of a compromise.
This is probably one of the coolest winged starfighters I've ever actually seen in the Star Wars franchise and boy this Lego set was really sturdy tbh
Fighter and troop transport go together perfect! Think about the Republic Gunship!
My favorite Rouge 1 set
I was waiting for about three hours for this set.
Am waiting for already 3 days for this set to be delivered to me, and it might take 5.
This thing is pure beauty
I rate it 10/10 👍
I really love the new Rebel helmet they made for this set. I hope they do more figures with that helmet.
I love this ship design. Its like a rebel take on the LAAT-series gunship; which is awesome and makes me really excited for the movie.
Hi jang just wanted to fix something you said. Jin has a baton not a launcher... But I agree with you it looks like a launcher
This and Krennic's Shuttle make a formidable duo side by side. Both have very large but unique wingspans and are polar opposites in color and design.
One of my favorite Star Wars sets ever! I don't know why but I thought that it needed a rear gunner so I ripped off the back and put a second cockpit in:)
I bought it today and I love it
Cassian's lack of hairpiece coverage isn't a total disaster - the hair pattern of his beard almost makes it look like an unshaved neck!
Got a u wing form the flea market it was real Lego missing like 2 pieces and had all five figures for 12 bucks.
Excuse me, WHAT!!!
I Want to find a way to give a second pilot seat to the u wing and get more space for the troop area on the u wing.
im probably going to get it for christmas. and think its a great build too!!!
Yep that wasn't known when this video was made, when LEGO had named the craft a "fighter" and before Rogue One and the Visual Guide were released.
I was hoping this would be uploaded in the time I got back from school but here I am getting ready for school and I see this :D thanks jang keep up the good work

Radar Red have you even seen rogue one? The pilots were both in the cockpit side by side
Am I the only one who actually *likes* the U-Wing's design? :-\
Luke Davis
Yes. Yes you are
I love it, both modes
+oreoblox 52 haha, really? I don't see why so many people don't like it, I think it's really neat. Just could of been a little larger..
To me it looks like something the resistance would use not the rebellion
It looks like hybrids of different spacecrafts
I got this set recently and I think its my new favorite out of all the Lego star wars sets that I own. It just looks awesome. The pilots canopy area is supposedly supposed to have been harvested from a Y-wing fighter and the engines obviously from an X-wing. Excellent set it portrays what's in the movie pretty good. Nice review Jang once again!!
Hey jang, I think if you extend the wing length a bit the design of the ship will be a lot more accurate, but you'll have to also change where the wings click back into place
This Lego U-Wing is way more 'accurate when you compare the aesthetics with the Hasbro play-set version....
Thanks for sharing, Jang!
I just got this yesterday :D
I personally like this, it feels rebelesque, with the Scrappy cobbled and stitched feel to it :) I love scrappy builds they look great!
I agree, I like the whole "It's busted but it works" feel to it.
Like real rebels, it's guarillia warfare in sssssssssppppppaaaaaaaaaaaccccccccccccceeee xD
Lego really stepped up their game with the rouge one sets. Although this may not be the most attractive (due to original movie design), Lego truly captured the essence of the in universe ship. I can say the same about Krennic's Imperial shuttle.
Good thing about jangbricks is that you can look through his vids for the set you want, and then see if its worth to get or not.
In universe it isn't called u-wing fighter. It is u-wing. It is more like the clone gunship than a fighter, however early on in the trailers it was called u wing fighter

i never saw this lower windscreen in one of the trailers
STARFOXxD nor did i
STARFOXxD Because we never see that part. It's been driving me crazy since the leaked pictures. The underside is just never shown at an angle where you can see that window.
if you look closely at the released images of it, you can tell its there, though it hasn't been featured or anything yet.
bad conceptual designs apart... seems like a very well designed as a Lego model!
Yeah do you think so too? It just looks off in a way I struggle to explain. Maybe it's the way there is just this grey box slung underneath it or something.
That's my favorite part of it actually; It looks very utilitarian and rugged.
Looks like a neat set. Nice review Jang.
It isn't a launcher it is her melee weapon she used a couple times.
Instead of thinking of it as a starfighter, think rather of it like an Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter, which also has a rather limited troop transport compartment. In both cases, the vehicles act in and as support of troops in battle.
Um, I suffer from alien pattern baldness, so this offended me!
Just kidding we good fam
if you take out the turrets in the bottom compartment and really move your hands, you can fit about 4 people, which in my opinion isn't that bad
Alien pattern baldness, brilliant 😄
It had a windshield on the underside...... Clearly a Star Wars equivalent to a Huey.......
I think more like a Black Hawk/B1 hybrid, if that's even possible to conceive... this is one of the better ones. it's priced like a standard Lego big Mid size set, yet. it has the capability of a large set like the gunship, good use of parts and space overall
I have this set and built it today it's really huge
i like how the engines have a pilot light
The Troop Transport Bay Reminds Me Of The Falcons From Halo Reach.
I can not wait to get this set!!!!!!
from what I gather from having the hot wheels, and Hasbro die cast of the U-wing, the wing blades seem to be used during flight: flip back to add more stability and make it more aerodynamic.
Cockpit: Y-Wing
Engines: X-Wing
I did not like the U-Wing as I saw it the first time, but as I understood this spaceship, I started to love it!
A fighter/troop transport isn't so strange when compared to one fighter/freighter known as the Millennium Falcon. Gotta love the Rebel fleet. :D
my perspective on the u wing is like a futuristic pickup truk with a wing and rocket engine 😂
what did the chese slope say to the other?
I was inverted
corn 345 lol
corn 345 Thank you for making my day! :D
corn 345 top gun?
hi guys Would have been funnier if you said "What did the transgender cheese slope say?".
I love this set so much! Though I think the 4 by 4 plate on each side of the transport bay could have been turned the other way
This is my personal bias, it's just the u wing looks really cool to me
I agree, certainly one of my favorite "wings," as well as the B-Wing.
"Big ol' GO tubes"
The only thing that appeals to me are the minifigures and the actual U wing looks like a UA-camr custom built spaceship that also looks like a spaceship from the classic space theme but I do like how the pilot can see down in the sort of bottom window and how it's more of a rebel transport ship and it reminds me of a gunship/transport vehicle from episode 2. Those are my thoughts.
Interesting set,not sure if I'll be buying it. Great review Jang ;)
I didn't even notice the asymmetric builds and colors of the s-foils until the end.
almost a million subscribers jang, I remember when you were below 100k
Definitely getting this one.
I don't know if I like the in-universe U-Wing design, but in the X-Wing table-top minis game from Fantasy Flight Games the U-Wing looks to be a really sweet addition.
When ever I see this ship, I always think of a A-wing combined with a X-wing.
The thing that Jyne is holding isn't a launcher it's her little baton that she uses in the movie its also in the trailers
Yeah, I think it is supposed to be her truncheon.
it's like a Republic Gunship, with fold out doors and guns to the sides
Still reminds of starfox arwing
Interesting work as always, Jang. Though I, personally find an odd charm in the design of the U-Wing: both in-universe and in-set. I can see your points as to disliking it, but to me: the design asks the history of the craft.
For instance: what planet is it based off of? Was the combination of fighter and carrier necessary to their race, or the wars they fought at the time?
Just my opinion, mind. But that's why I find it charming.
