The best thing about this is that you can import SYSEX-Files from the ESQ-1 and SQ-80 into Arturia‘s SQ-80. I own 2 ESQ-1 and when comparing them to the SQ80 I couldn‘t tell any difference in most of the sounds. Arturia have outdone themselves!!

While you can sound very good using vst's such as Arturia, you won't match the original without hardware gear, just doesn't sound as good.

Wow, most people have been telling me for years that I lost my accent. But guessing by the ‘78 moniker, I’m gonna say this song brings you right back to either Metroland or the Rollerink 😂

I remember the GUI’s being a bit finicky in the older versions. I believe the engines have been updated too. Best advice would be to try out some of the demos though and test them out though: www.pluginboutique.com/manufacturers/77-Arturia/?a_aid=54f0128010c19

Always have loved that Adamski Killer track....dude i got a question; why should people use the synth effects while some of us (like me 😁🖖) can place a fabfilter Pro R on in instead? Or have they tuned the effects specifik for those sounds or?...... i always want the best of the best so i rather would ad a Fab or a Valhalla delay or reverb on that synth....what is your though about this?
    S.O from Amsterdam, peace 👊🏻🤙

Hey Robbie. Great question and there a few reasons really.
Firstly, they do sound really good and there are some pretty cool ones in there that you may not have available with other plugins, like that Juno Chorus (although Arturia do have this available as a stand alone effect too).
Secondly is that you can map them to synth’s modulators which can give you more dynamic results in your sound design, which may not be possible when using external effects. For example could map the cut off, delay feedback and maybe chorus dry/wet to an LFO and then map the LFO rate to your mod wheel.
Thirdly could be if you wanted to use the synth live - it would just be more efficient and convenient than using external effects.
This actually could be a good topic for a video when I think about it 😎

@@therealrobbycrash Effects in Ensoniq gear has always been part of the sounddesign path of a sound. Like Craig said it is possible to route 2 of the modulators to some parameters of the effects themselve and/or to the Dry/Wet level.
Also the SQ80V only has a LP filter but one of the effects is a Multi Filter. Really nice for HP or BP effects.
With the Bit Crusher you can get Ensoniq Mirage like sounds, Overdrive is nice to have Delay, Juno Chorus....Craig already mentioned that one.
You don't HAVE to use the effects but I like having them available in the SQ80V.
      Greetings from Hilversum ;-)

Hmm, I find it interesting how many people like the SQ80. I had it as hardware and found the sound absolutely awful. The filters were not good, no self-occillation of the resonance and very weak in the bass range.

Most likely the secret of popularity lies in the SQ8L freeware plugin, which users fell in love with at one time for a slightly unusual (not too digital), "organic" sound, which was achieved by a good emulation of engine, with some interesting settings. But it was not finished, remaining in beta and 32bit (for well-known sad reasons). In addition, it was very light for CPU, while having great variability of timbres. Hence, many of the dreams of the majority to get hold of it in a fully functional form.
But, it seems that one of the contradictions, that users who have been waiting for it will face is the high CPU usage now. That will not be able to fully recreate that freedom feeling of SQ8L, unfortunately. Although of course many thanks to Arturia.

if people are making 80s sounding music it'd make sense to have this it's a synth with a certain palette, I still have an Ensoniq ESQ-1 which I've always liked the sound of, it's grittier than the SQ80.
