    Thank you for this! I don't have a serger : what stitches could I use to achieve a somewhat similar result on a regular sewing machine?

    I love your videos, they are very helpful! I've decided I want to learn how to do alterations. I hate how much textiles end up in the landfill, am a hard to fit size anyway (hourglass figure...pants always gap at waist), I'm tired of wearing clothes that are exactly the same as everybody else's, and since I've recently lost 100 pounds!!!! I decided not to throw away my favorite pieces, but to alter or upcycle them!
    Would love a video about sleeves...they always seem too tight in the upper arms, or the rest of the shirt is too baggy! How to fix?!?!?

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I completely agree with you and it’s exciting that you want to start a sewing journey! Way to go on your determination to reach your goals. Also, thanks for the suggestion :)

    I love your videos. Thank you for teaching us. I am doing a sweater like this and since I don't have a serger put a zig zag stitch after cutting to finish the edge. It came out very wavy, like a lettuce leaf. Almost looks like I have ruffles on it. Should I stretch while feeding it into the machine? Will that reduce the waviness?

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I would suggest that you loosen up a liiiiittle bit the tension at the top and at the bottom on your sewing machine. Also, stretching and keeping the fabric taught while sewing really helps. Something more excessive would be to use interfacing when you stitch but it might be hard to find interfacing these days.

      Thanks so much for the semantic clarification. I already changed it. Anyway, the proper technique will be the same. Cheers 😊

    I was wondering if you could do a video on how to turn a pull over hooded sweatshirt into a full zipper hoodie or a partial zipper hoodie???? I have several heavy Champion brand pullover hooded sweatshirts that R very nice quality but they make me feel uncomfortable around the neck because of how close they are around my neck area and I was wondering if there is a great way to add in a zipper or an area near the neck that has a partial zipper or buttons but still look like it was always meant to be there.

    What brand heat erase market are you using? Have you had marks return with cold. I marked a reading pillow last year and then I done extensive embroidery and applique on the pillow, my daughter sells at the Farmers Market and we found that over the cold that the marks returned with cold temperature. THEN I did a sample of marking and heat erasing and then put the item in the refrigerator and sure enough, the marks returned. I used the brand Frixion Pen and so far I have not tried another brand. I am in Ohio USA

      Oh yeah, the chemical make-up of those friction pens is such that it will always show up again in cold temps, at least if not thoroughly washed out, though I've heard that's quite difficult to do. They don't tell you anything about this stuff on the boxes, as far as I'm aware, but if I forgot what I wrote after erasing it, we used to just throw them in the freezer and still catch the outline of most of it.

    Hello! Loved the video, but how would you go about if you were to loosen the cuffs of a hoodie? Would love an answer, i’ve searched everywhere but can’t find anything that helps!🙏

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  3 роки тому +1

      Yes. But first, I wanted to point out that cuffs usually loosen up with the time. Anyways, if you want to accelerate the process, just remove the cuffs and iron them while flat while stretching them a little bit. Be careful as you can remove all stretching. Then sew your cuffs back. You can also reduce the width of the cuffs by cutting them and then you'll have extra material to add to your cuffs. I hope this helps!

      @@DowntownTailoring Ohh thank you, but when ironing it should i use any steam settings on the iron? Or should i remove all liquid from the iron before using it?

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! Use the steam. Cheers 🙂

      Hi! You don't need a serger. You can zigzag or overcast as shown on this video:

    Is this a sweater or a sweatshirt? I’m looking to shorten a tunic to a more fashionable length, but it’s knit. Is that possible?
