Damn....Damn.......DAMN!!! I didn't realize there wasn't a horn section until l played this the second time. What a joy, the Ohio Players are one of the Baaadest Bands in the land.
This is my FAVORITE band of all times....... They had Funky Grooves, Sexy Smooth Stuff, Sensuous slow songs Excellent High background harmonies, Killing horn section, Billy Beck with those SWEET keyboard chords, Jones holding down the bass, Diamond killing the drums............ And for sure the one and only voice of SugarFoot,,,,,, SugarFoot was a game changer when he took over lead vocals
I have. I actually met SUGAR FOOT back stage too. Got a signed foto of him and talked for a min. The man is cool people and showed love to his fans. Within a year after that concert he passes away. What a memory . Long live OHIO PLAYERS.
Yes they do u just did and what is with dumb logic on UA-cam with folks saying certain artists don't get talked about enough heck nobody mentioned Barbara Streisand last month it doesn't take away from her greatness u can't talk about everyone at once duh
@@anthonytaylor7928 I'm not talking about YT, I'm talking industry players I've been around. Really Roger gave him the most/best praise and the others spoke when I would say don't forget about him. I'm 59, and I've been involved in the industry since I was 11. People get stuck on household names and can't see the value each player gave to the art! Garry Shider is up there with Al McKay (EWF) and Tony Maiden (Rufus) but Glen Goins was just as bad a prodigy he just didn't live long enough for people to hear or learn!
Sugar foot was so damn good. I truly miss that brother. He could sing and play that guitar. That brother was so,so talented. And so was all the band it's hard for me to believe that they are all gone. But God knows what best never question God he knows what best.
😊 I saw an interview with sugarfoot just before he passed. 😊 He talked about everything. When he was talking about death, he reminded me of a family member of mine, I asked her was she afraid to die. I'll never forget what she said, she said if you know God you don't have to be afraid if you really know him. It's been over 10 years but I really miss her every day. In the interview sugarfoot was up beat, he was dressed very nice. I don't know what stage he was in that interview, but I saw no fear in his eyes, he was excited talking about a new band he put together. I also missed this brother, a very talented man. Rest. In Peace.
Hi promise man This is Tammay Williams. I'm so glad you are interested in the book. I had been working on it and I spoke to the curator at the funk museum in Ohio and called the attorney that took care of them. I took a hiatus because I am in school for natural pathetic medicine but I am truly excited about the book. I will do podcast and other social media . I will be getting an agent from Ohio to work with me. Contact me anytime Thanks
@@IIESPD00DII Sugar foot died of cancer I remember the last time I seen him perform with the Ohio players he wasn't playing the guitar anymore he could barely moved around on the stage but he still put on a hell of a performance
Amen, to you my brother sugga foot had the badest ass afro ever . Everyone tried to copy his afro and couldn't. May God rest all their souls that has gone on. We miss them so much and we will always love them.

Such a GREAT and Unique Band!! I grew up thru adolescent with this band and their mesmerizing Album covers! 🤣 I wonder if people really appreciate what a great scatter Sugarfoot was among his considerable musical talents?!!
My name is Dean Alan Simms I was with Ohio Players I took peewee Middlebrooks place when he can no longer play trumpet in 1981and I learned so much from Sugarfoot especially on how to be a band leader he taught me everything he was a true genius at his craft loved him so much. My first date with the Ohio players was in Lake Tahoe on Labor Day week in 1981 I was a very young man then we had rehearse for two weeks when straight out the Lake Tahoe Sugarfoot just took control of the audience and he blew my mind and ever since then I’ve learned about him and sucked up everything he did like a sponge
When I became leave Trumpet for the Ohio Players thing about it is peewee mouth Swoll up from dental implant so he couldn’t play trumpet anymore but he was also a saxophone player so he switched over to saxophone and Marvin Pierce Merv was on trumpet as well and we we rock them everywhere we went all over the United States in Europe
They were older than I but I kinda grew up with them. They were all really decent guys until Satch came along then they weren't so nice for about 18 years. They finally caught up with him and thank god they realized who they had become and landed back on earth. I miss them greatly. Mr Bonner would walk to my class in trotwood-maddison whenever he felt like it and teach us chord progressions and solo leads. Even I had no idea how much he liked blues and Rock music until we got older. I thought he would get me fired but the principal was a fan too so it was all good.
Well I am Blessed to have had the "OHIO PLAYERS" in their Heyday on Wax and playing on my "Stero System" Pioneer with 8 Pioneer speakers!!! Apartment would be Shaking 😊😊😊😊😊
This video brings back memories. This show was at "The Boathouse" in San Francisco. The Players were just getting back together. Diamond, Sugarfoot, Billy Beck and Chet along with Darwin Dortch on bass and Ronald Nooks on keyboards. Diamond's brother "Kenny" and myself were the "Funky 2" road crew. "The Baddest Band in the Land"... "Keep Funk Alive"!!!🤟🏾
The best 12-minutes and 14-seconds I'd had in a long time. Thanks for posting for it brought back good memories. I wish you had more of them. What's the name of the place Ohio Players were playing at?
I am from New Orleans La.. just doing a little research on them. I'm writing a book on the band with a focus on sugar. He's a little eccentric in a good way
RIP. Mr SugarFoot. This Band definitely deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame NEXT YEAR. PERIOD.
