The Players played together since school days and it shows... these cats knew their craft and the level of musicianship was off the charts. For me the best to ever do it! Dayton's finest.
Those were the days..Ohio Players, Commodores, Kool & the Gang, KC abd Sunshine Band, love the funk. Great beat, lots enthusiasm..Saw Ohio players concert only once but great show
Hey sweetie let's not forget about Parliament, Boosty Collins, Rick James, Spinners, Stylistics, Ojays, Sly and The Family Stone, The Mighty Dells, Temptations, Four Tops, Marvin, WAR, Chill-tes, Darryl Hall and John Oates, Bobby Caldwell, The Isley Brothers. 😊😅😅All Fantastic Great Musicians from that ERA. Leroy was a real bad ass and that trademark "OWW" he used came from blues people he hung with and they would make that sound when they began a fire solo. He told me that in 71 when they came to my grandmothers fish fry right after Funky Worm hit the charts.
I'm so glad I got a chance to experience this era!! The weekend was the bomb for me Friday nights and Saturday nights-->Don Kirshner's rock concerts and the midnight special--->especially "wolfman jack!!!!"
Complete Badass. The musicianship is through the roof! Skintight is a pretty cool LP, but this gig shows that they kept on getting better and better as the 70's went on .
I missed a lot of these old shows when they came on TV back then; thank God somebody preserved them for today and put them on UA-cam, because I never got to see the Ohio Players(and a few other groups)live back then. And its another chance for us, who grew up with this music, to experience the next best thing to seeing them live(for, from what I understand, all of the acts that appeared on shows like ROCK CONCERT and MIDNIGHT EXPRESS performed their material LIVE-and not pantomime or lip-synching-and it's a great experience for me(and no doubt many of you, yes?)to go back down memory lane once again-thank you also, to "DBfor 70s" for posting these classic videos of these great artists and their music-live! I also noticed that PEE WEE(on trumpet also)is missing from the group on this date and that MERV PIERCE is the only one playing trumpet on this show; I guess an emergency came up that didn't allow PEE WEE to be there; I still would've liked to have been in the audience when they did this show-or any other during this period. 1-24/25-23.
Who could imagine at this point in time that Ohio and Dayton for example would be the center of funk based band’s Lakeside , Zapp , Slave Bootsie to name a few. I’m over here jamming to this good sh!t right here !
With their stream of hits in the 70's, hit the pop #1 with Rollercoaster from their Honey LP, the Ohio Players should be honored in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, no doubt, they made a mark in funk, soul genre and American music. The Players put Dayton, Ohio on the map with their commercial success and other Dayton bands followed suit to success stories of their own including the Thomas Brothers from TBUniversalGroup LLC.
I was one of those kids lol my first concert was Earth Wind & Fire in 1972( I was 10 ) my mom couldn’t get a babysitter on such short notice so I went with her and my aunt
🔥 The Bomb 💥💣 I seen them Two times in my life with James Brown The big Pay Back Show, and also in Philly With The Group Called Sky The Ohio Players just came out with the jam Ohio everybody Up!!yes they had cut back on the band size then but they still give it up 🤘🤘

The Ohio players are the master of the Funk. There were NO OTHER TO COMPARE. Sugar Foot is the KING👑👑👑 of the Funk thrown.

And you No That.May he Fly On Forever With The Rest Of The Great Ones 🤘👑🙏
Almost 50 years later, 2024, Diamond, Chet, Billy, are still touring.
Wish they'd come to Southwest Florida..
Man...I LOVE these guys! Excellent background vocals and Billy is THE MAN on Lead vocals!
Those bad ass brothers from Ohio.
Musica y músicos de verdad y personas divirtiendose y pasando un buen rato.😉

Bootsy is from Cinci, but, yeah! 👍
Saw them in the UK a few times, superb band.
Lucky you. Anyway, thank goodness for this archival footing.
I'd seen just about all the other Funk Bands, but never my FAVORITE band the Ohio Players😢

Very good.
Sugar Foot 🌹
He was the center piece of the group
Badass bass, bassdass.
Everyone imitated Sugarfoot.
Yep
You mean his singing style right ? If so then you are correct !
@@elident7828 Exactly what I meant. Brick House is a prime example.
That includes me...Wayne Foote! at least to some degree.
Sugarfoot imitated Sly Stone from the Family
Yup thats how it was done
Love music 💓💞💓💞💓💞💓
They should be ARRESTED for Funkin' so HARD!!!💯👑🤘🏿🖤🌹🕊🙏🏾👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
That shyt too funky 🔥
That kind of funkin is the bomb !!! 😊
Greatest funk band ever! Shame didn’t have the visuals we got now. Shame chilli peppers ripped em off so bad
Best funk band ever 👍💯
5:25, somebody couldn't find a sitter, so they just brought their 10 year old to the concert. and she jammed like it wasnt past her bedtime
I bet she is one of the most grounded, cool, laid back adult right now...
I was one of those kids lol my first concert was Earth Wind & Fire in 1972( I was 10 ) my mom couldn’t get a babysitter on such short notice so I went with her and my aunt
That little girl is either 60 years old or close to it now in 2024.
Kickass!
I love this song
Fire
Are you welcome
One of the baddest bands there ever was.
For sure.
I didn't know they had a formula for their hits.
I would like to see video footage of don cornelius interviewing the ohio players on soul train. 😊
They brought the house down!
🔥 The Bomb 💥💣 I seen them Two times in my life with James Brown The big Pay Back Show, and also in Philly With The Group Called Sky The Ohio Players just came out with the jam Ohio everybody Up!!yes they had cut back on the band size then but they still give it up 🤘🤘
should of seen them when they first started with Walter Morrison.
Amazing performance. Music was a sport to these guys. They all must have lost 10 pounds per show.
Sugarfoot
🤩🤩🤩DA FUNK IS INDA HOUSE!🤩🤩🤩
If anyone on that stage gave less than 200%, I couldn't tell. They gave a REAL concert and not some cheesy, lip-synced version surround by dancers.
🔥🔥🔥
Wow
great sound
🎶
13:50 Hell yeah
Not bad for being a live show really close to the recordings 😊
and I'm glad that you're not going 50 miles an hour😊
I wished they would have given sugarfoot a longer solo
Whodchicoo and love Rollercoaster are the jams
“Who’d she coo?”
What about "Sweet Sticky Thing?"😊😅🎉😂❤
