    Rob doing some work. I remember before he got his XR pros, I believe the mid cap testing had Rob hitting 7i around 140-145, and now getting close to 160. Keep up the work team Shiels/Potter.

  • @bobdelellis
    @bobdelellis 7 років тому

    Another great video from Rob. I like the new system, but maybe you should also use the average, to make the overall rating comparable to the old "Rob's rating". The 25 would make this an 8.33.
    I just switched from XR Pro's with Recoil F3 shafts to i200s with XP95 R300. My SS is similar to Rob's, with my fastest swing with a 7i at 75mph. I ordered them with the Power Spec lofts, which are almost identical to the stock Callaway XR Pro lofts, but the golf shop made a mistake and ordered them with stock lofts. I seemed to have lost 5-7 yards, compared to my XR Pro's. The shop ordered another set with Power Spec lofts, and swapped them out today. I am now hitting i200s in Power Spec almost the same distance as my XR Pros. I might be a couple yards shorter, but I attribute that to going from very light graphite at about 66 grams with 3.8º of torque, to lightweight steel at 93 grams and 1.7º of torque, but the dispersion pattern is much tighter. I'd give up a couple yards for accuracy any day, and I like the feel of solid, center strikes better than the XR Pro's. I love the looks of the i200. It's like an iBlade, but more forgiving. Bob's Rating 9+9+8=26 /3 = 8.67
    UPDATE: After about 7 months of playing with the i200s, my handicap has dropped from a 14 to a 10. I wouldn't attribute all the improvement to the i200 heads, but, surprisingly, I find the i200 heads to be as forgiving or even more forgiving than the XR Pro's. I did NOT expect that. My shot dispersion is worlds better, and I attribute that to both the i200 head AND the XP95 shaft with only 1.7* of torque vs about 4* in the Recoils. I can play regular steel without getting a terrible case of the lefts. Also, the drop in the handicap is attributable to improvements in my short game, from the Glide 2.0 wedges and going from a low-spin Callaway Supersoft to using a spin ball (Kirkland Ksig and now Bridgestone B330RX). Feel-wise, the i200s blow the XR Pro's away. A solid center hit approaches the feel of a forging, without the cost or lack of durability. I am EXTREMELY happy with the i200s and will never go back to the XR Pros. The only irons that could bump these out of the bag would be a forged club that is AS forgiving (IF that exists). Bob's adjusted rating: Looks=9, Accuracy=10, Feel=9 = 28/3=9.33!!

    Very interesting, had a lesson with a Pro I'd never visited before the other day and he put me on trackman with my old G10's. Reckoned that I'd probably see some benefit from switching to something more modern, question is which? He's at Ping this week so it will be interesting to see what he makes of these clubs.

    I like the system, question is how "fit" are the clubs for him? Also 3 shots is he getting warmed up first or is this like me walking onto the course without running through my pre-round routine? And when do you "through out a shot" because it is the indian not the arrow that went off?

  • @roberturban2372

    rick the new way to test is great. i would do this 3 times with say pw, 7 iron and 5 iron. The analysis however was terrible. you seem shocked about the yardage/ball speed numbers. The callaway is 2 degrees stronger what would you expect? Why don't you bend all the lofts to be the same for your tests?

  • @golferhack2309
    @golferhack2309 7 років тому

  • @aemluck

    Hi Rick, are you comparing Ping 7i to Callaway 6i regarding ball speed? Good job Rob!!:) Thank you guys, great reviews.

  • @jht9407
    @jht9407 7 років тому

    Rob, Looks like your ball striking has improved. Solid sounding strike my man. Custom fitting + stronger lofts make a difference in the comparison between the two obviously but the Pings faired well I thought. There must be some mathematical way to get a forgiveness number. Strike position on club face combined with face angle, club head speed and distance off target line. Boffins go to work on that one please ! . Without it a forgiveness rating almost seems subjective, so too is a score for looks. What Rob likes the look of could be very different to someone else. The video shows the club so people make up there own minds on the looks when they see it. Don't think you need a score for that but certainly your thoughts on its looks is interesting i.e. Top line, design etc. just don't need a score . I like the feel and overall score rating system but more detail to help the consumer i.e. Under the banner of Feel share with us what the sound is like compared to other brands compatible irons. it's hard to tell through mikes. Does it feel softer or harder to those different brands compatible clubs, does it give you feedback on off center or miss hit shots or does everything feel the same.
    Rob and Rick, you do this already but as a consumer I am looking for more. A score just doesn't give me enough. How many clubs have we seen score an overall of 8 for example. Many many, so what then makes them different from each other? We can't hit every new iron (also with a trackman) before we decide on what to buy, but you can for us, and help us narrow it down. Rob you are a good enough player and in tune with these elements so would you mind sharing them with us in more detail. Still score but give us more food for thought. Don't get me wrong, I am loving it but that's why I want more, I am still left hungry. Thanks for all your time and effort. You both rock !

  • @cace81
    @cace81 7 років тому +2

    Not shocked that spin was up and distance down since the Ping is 2 degrees weaker than Rob's XR iron, but the ball speed drop off is really surprising. Did swing speed remain constant on both irons? I know Rob commented that the Ping felt heavier.

    If your comparing 7 iron to 7 iron, the Callaway XR 7 iron is 30 degrees in loft. The Ping i200 is 33 degrees in loft. I think you found your difference in carry and ball speed. So saying "that is why you have the Ping G's and G Max line for that" is not true but also misleading. I like the idea though of getting the average golfers opinion on clubs. Makes the video more interesting.

    Well a 16 yrds drop in distance is acceptable especially if the i200 has 2 degrees less loft than the XR pros. Its basically a 6 iron (XR) vs a 7 (i200)

    Really like the new format - Rob needs to hit enough (5-7 )shots and pick the best 3 to eliminate poor strike when you're looking at the numbers. This would allow a comparison between clubs (albeit not taking into account different lofts). Rob needs to do the skills challenge (and Peter and the obvious other UA-camrs).
