Sorry for being MIA the last few weeks! I'm finally back, expect lots of new commentary and reactions coming :) xoxo
You were busy playing the new zelda??
missed your personality, face and vids so much! best creator on yt ❤❤welcome back!!
🎉 Yaayyy!! We missed you!
Hi Jessica! You were doing your thing no need to apologize. if you needed to step away for personal or creative reasons, the subscribers and fans will be here.
Love your videos! Watched ANTM when it was on originally and cannot believe what they made seem was “normal” for photo shoots. Love re-watching with your commentary as a photographer. Gives a professional view ❤
Amanda did the smartest thing, she knew by this point in the competition that nobody was going to make accommodations for her disability so she needed to make them for herself. The ableism in this season is shocking.
So glad someone else mentioned that
I know right
If you watch some interviews she did, she mentions that the crew would purposefully refuse to let her walk stairs before a runway or know how many steps to expect because they wanted her to fall. The other girls would have to do their walk and whisper how many stairs there were to her back stage.
@@abbaddabba6100 absolutely awful, I’m glad at least some of the girls helped her out how they could 😔
100% ❤ because that was what pissed me off this season but I was so proud of her for overcoming that bullshit AND when I found out the other girls let her know info that she needed. Queens don’t let other queens fall and lose their crown 💅🏽👑🙏🏽🥰
They were sooooooo interested in her saying how cute she was.....until they heard she was 25, then they were like yeah pass, next. Which is stupid. You thought she was so cute a second ago but now all of that changed because you know her age?
Definitely the producers telling them not to accept her
In my opinion, she looked the best. Not exactly Lolita but at least she had kind of the right idea with her skirt.
Watching this from today's standards, the ageism and abelism in this show is insane.
@@sylverscale yeah, i'm hardcore into japanese street style (including lolita) and i think she was the best and it seemed like they had the best reactions with her until she told them her age
and vise versa with eva, i feel like they didn't care much until she told them she was 19
i think the pick had to do 100% with age
this is one of the reasons why people lie about their ages a lot.
Unfortunately, I had the same experience as the models here. Before I turned 25, I had many modeling jobs in Japan. I looked (and still look) much younger than I am, but as soon as I told the client I was older than 25, it was over. XD Now I'm 30 and I'm often mistaken for a foreign high school student by strangers. However, as soon as I reveal my age, they treat me like a fossil XDDD
Japanese fashion designers and Leonardo Di'Caprio have something in common
I shouldn't have but I LOL'd. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lolita is not about the fetishization of young women and most Lolita don’t appreciate that comparison
Hmm, what could that be?!
@@KatBlaqueThe joke is about 25 being "too old" for designers and DiCaprio, not about Lolitas 😅
@@KatBlaque r/whoosh
With how fickle and shallow the fashion industry is, it doesn't surprise me at all that they have a very young age cutoff. There are times where the fashion industry is very predatorial, looking for young, naiive girls who they can groom to their standards and immediately kick out when they get "too old." It's gross
It's purely pedophilic.
that is true, many models start at 14 years old. -_-
It makes me kinda uncomfortable that adult women's fashion is modeld on literal children and teens
When the fashion industry was in their Russian Doll era😬 Very Predatory
That girl with the vision issue is so correct! I'm disabled, and I have a similar philosophy. I cant always do the most, I can't always do the things I'd like to be able to do, but I can be there on time and be put-together, and it can make a big difference.
I think Amanda was the closest to the Lolita fashion but they discriminated against her just because of her age.
i literally posed for "back 2 school" stuff when i was 24, this show is ridiculous lol
Well didn’t expect to find you here. 😅😂
Ariana what are you doing here
@@gingercatqueen4368 i loveeee jessica, i watch all her antm videos 😂
@@Rekowcski I do too! 😊
Keep in mind male modeling is different
"Oh 19. Still young enough for us to take advantage of you by not paying you the rate you should get by telling you you're being paid.. in.. experience!" It's all I hear when they prefer them to be young.
or even worse
Idk if it's a cultural thing, but the old-at-25 is definitely an ANTM thing. I remember it being an issue every so often when they had someone on who was older than 22. They'd complain about that person "photographing old." And I forget the contestant's name, but I remember one being 26 and the other girls talking about how she was already basically at the end of her career because of her age. I'm assuming now that convo was prompted by producers, but it definitely made an impression on me when I was younger and made me think the industry only wanted young people.
In Japan is also a thing, being 25 and not being married or having a boyfriend seems too bad, and people think that you are no longer beautiful. There is a really bad saying "women are like christmas cake, they are not good after 25" and I think is so gross. I have to say that this might not represent the youth, society is changing so are japanese, but some people stilll believing it :(
@@michelletirado3671 I hear this a lot online these days too, they've lowered the bar from 30 to 25 which is ridiculous. I'm 25 and I feel like this is the best I've looked lol, my teen years were note cute whatsoever. I want to say I don't really see this sentiment as much irl though, at least I hope it isn't much of a thing beyond the internet and modelling space. I mean a bunch of shows have mid/late 20's people playing teens, current "it girls" like bella hadid or jennie are also over 25, as well as a good chunk of top female streamers and the list goes on lol.
@@michelletirado3671 sad but true that this is a thing in Japan. Hell anywhere that has similar views within their cultures like this its sad and predatory.
25 being the new 30 is definitely a thing, unfortunately. I started hearing I was old once I hit 25 and consistently once I hit 27.
@@diamcole I hear you. I remember someone saying a coworker (who I didn't even like) was old at 26. I was 24 then so I didn't understand how those 2 extra years changed anything.
When I turned 27, started hearing it a lot more even though I feel like I rocked 27
There's being called too old for a modelling job. Then there's being called too old by a McDonalds manager for playing in the ball pit.
Both hurt.
I can see why the judges controversially eliminated the fabulous Toccara Jones before Japan because Toccara is plus-sized, she probably wouldn't fit the clothes.
Amanda is the smart one. She figured out what she needed to do and she did it. They did Amanda dirty.
Like everything in ANTM, it was definitely a setup.
Like Jessica said, a whole outfit is super expensive so no one was actually going to match this look.
"Babydoll Lolita" wants the baby doll look (big eyes, soft features, frilly/lacy clothes, and obviously youth)
Even if Amanda had matched a little closer to the style, they 99% would have said "too old" anyway.
I was sad they didn't pick Amanda. She was genuinely interested and had an attention to detail with her styling. I know the fashion industry isn't all cuddly and stuff but it was obvious she put thought into her hair and make up (which was also very doll like, so you could see she did care about the theme) and was very respectful. As a designer I would have appreciated a model with this attitude.
Ann's outfit was cool, I esp. liked her blouse and it would have been great in a Visual Kei inspired outfit!
I liked Eva's outfit as well but it was more generally Harajuku inspired rather than being giving me specific Babydoll Lolita vibes.
Overall they were screwed with the budget they had so yeah.
But honestly I was very surprised they didn't rule out Eva right from the start, not because of her outfit but because the discrimination against dark skinned people is well documented. So I guess they weren't as discrimating in this point, which is nice.
@@miristtotallw ANTM production probably put words in their ears (and dollars) and told them the premise. Probably the case for any go-see challenge tbh. If it wasn't for the cameras, they probably wouldn't accept anyone. Agencies were hostile to many ANTM contestants and I'm sure castings were no different.
I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted certain contestants to have more positive or negative reviews. Eva being the youngest and shortest should definitely match up closer to Harajuku/Lolita concepts by default. I definitely see it working for everyone but Ann in this instance (didn't match lolita but she'd be excellent for Visual Kei like you said and her photoshoot seemed to agree). Unsurprisingly, Ann got eliminated.
This challenge actually had one of the best prizes from the show. They ended up getting mikimoto pearl necklaces.
Oh, I remember that! I was like 11 or 12, and it pissed me off. Anyway, it was a recurring thing in this show that they cast a girl in the age of 25-26 just to call her "too old" later... (Then why did you cast her?!)
Because they needed to secure a certain number of storylines to use later 🫣
Either that and/or give them a makeover that explicitly makes them "photograph too old"
They called some old when they where not even 25 too, like Lisa, anyway she still looks great.
Tyra was always calling the 25 year olds "old" too so I remember not being surprised at all by that comment when I watched this as a kid.
Right and shes like older than the girls LOL
Funfact Lolita fashion was started as a way to rebel against the idea you have to dress to be attractive to everyone else. Its based off of victorian and rococo era fashion. Its also known as egl or elegant gothic Lolita fashion.
I love your hair today! It’s always pretty but this combo especially with the tight sides and full crown just rocks!
Jessica: If you lose your way you must have your eyes closed
Amanda, blind: 😭😭😭
I'm attempting to get into the modeling industry, and like for some agencies, the cut-off is 22-24 MAYBE 25 for women but 30 for men 💀. It's so dumb. Legit, you can look like you're 18 still, but as soon as you say your age, they act like you're 80 years old. I'm "too old" even though I'm 26
I'm turning 24 in a few days and I already had a panic attack about getting "older". Damn. Logically, I know we are still very very young women. But it's like society wants women to be perpetual pubescent teenagers for life which is impossible, and.. EW. Like I wanted to compete in the women's bodybuilding "bikini" division, but I would feel so self conscious competing with 18 year olds. It's not even about people a few year younger being more "attractive". But it just seems like a lot men have this really gross obsession with the youngest woman possible. Most judges in the fitness industry are men. And they LOVE the contestants that are "only 18 years old😍". UGH. I'm on a rant but it's just annoying af.
As if there's a huge difference between how a 24-year-old looks and how a 26-year-old looks 🙄
I'm a gothic lolita. As the most well known lolita fashion model (Misako Aoki) turns 40 this year, and one of the most influential gothic lolita creator is most likely over 50, this is all bull :)
also I laughed cause 20K yen at Metamorphose might get you a blouse if you're lucky lmaoooo
Did you take inflation into account? Cus they apparently could afford full outfits. This episode must be about 20 years old. Though even back then, I doubt 20k yen would be enough for anything of quality if you want ANY accessories. The stuff they bought did look kind of cheap to me compared to the lolita outfits in online stores that I drooled over back then.
@@tonichan89 can attest that even back then it was expensive. I usually sewed my own stuff when I used to dress Lolita or buy second hand used clothes from other overseas Lolitas.
No its true they're saying she's too old to Start off modeling if she was already a well Established model by the age of 25 than. That wouldnt be an issue.
As an old school goth and anime obsessed person, I learned all about the elegant gothic Lolita style at a convention. I must have looked insane in my rocking horse shoes and petticoats at college but I think I rocked it.
as someone who was scouted at 12 by a modeling agency, age was definitely always a thing, as well as size obviously. I quite at 16 so I haven't experienced "running out of time" but most girls I ran into during gigs were in their early 20's at their oldest so even if no one speaks about there being a hard cutoff, it's implicit that you run out of options at a certain age
Cultural or not, it's still 100% ageist.
I think people are dont understand they're saying she's too old to Start off modeling if she was already a well Established model by the age of 25 than. That wouldnt be an issue.
@@ashleyshim2078 no, the people working for Milk were looking for someone to be their inspiration for a new collection and they said she was too old.
its honestly bad.
Yeah. All cultures around the world have some problematic element to them, many times embedded in tradition, it still doesn’t make it right. Culture is never an excuse.
it's actually really nice seeing a time capsule of lolita related brands like metamorphose and milk from the 00s! I wish they spent more time going into different harajuku fashion subcultures so they would have some idea of what to put together but it is antm after all smh
as a japanese street fashion enthusiast with a particular interest in lolita, this is always so painful to watch because the girls don't try and the show doesn't try, either. $200 for a babydoll lolita look? maybe secondhand but woof
Lol fr I remember when this season came out and I was like “yea this ain’t it” even back then Lolita fashion was just expensive.
Yeah they even went to a Lolita store, I'm sure they had some ready dresses as example but the show should have explained the fashion better, so not really their fault.
I understand. But, I saw this as a challenge. Sort of like…do the best you can with little money.
@@TJ-fi7cb yea that’s a good point too. I think they had to explain the fashion better. Or better yet, they could have just asked them to do street fashion which is a more broad category and they each could have shown more personality/creativity which is what a lot of Japanese subculture fashion is about.
The "funny" thing about this is before they asked how old she was nobody knew. Beacuse a person can be soooooo hard to tell the age if by just looking at them. So if you liked their look what does age have to do with anything if you could not tell by looking at them?😮 like eva and her could be the exact same age?
Eva looks much younger than Amanda.
She doesn’t look young in the face
20.000 yen and they send them to Metamorphose. I'd be at a minus after that. 😭
This is bordering on creepy. Let’s find the youngest “adult” and dress her up like a baby doll. Ick.
Huh. You do know there are adults that dress up in Lolita right?
Don’t infantilize Japanese people, thanks
It’s apart of their culture..
@@rttnmlk9013 That literally does not justify anything
Also there is a difference between culture and cult
Culture NEVER hurts people
A cult does
Just because you have a culture that does not change ANYTHING about your BASIC rights and well being
I'm a Japanese American and I LOVE Japanese street fashion! It's sad they thought it was a joke haha. But Asian culture and fashion is much more prominent in the west these days. So cool to share cultures with each other.
When Jessica started speaking Japanese I was waiting for her to say “Campbell select soups” at the end. Lol
I understand that they had culture shock but it makes me sad how Ann & Eva were making fun of Japanese street fashion. “How dumb do I look?”
I'm living in Japan and I used to work as a model (for a Japanese agency). Yes, with 25, you're too old unless you have great connections or are already kind of famous. :') I look much younger than I am, but I lost many jobs after I turned 25.
I live and work in Japan so here's a: Fun filled fact. The Japanese girl bands like AKB48, when the girls are in their twenties they are called "too old" and have to "retire". They also can't publicly have boyfriends because they want to "keep" the men interested in them. So when those two designers said "too old" I don't think it's just a ANTM thing. Also those models are very luckily to find anything in their size. I can't find anything in my size and I'm 5'5" and weigh about 140ish pounds.
When the presenter of the challenge critiqued Ann's look, the show put on this very dramatic music. But the woman was very nice and positive still. I appreciated that. American reality tv shows play up the dramatic stress so much.
'He looks American, look at it, he's got glasses!'
...the Hell?
With that said, nothing like being lost in an unfamiliar environment to make sure petty drama gets squashed quick-fast.
I hate this obsession with age. I’m a kpop fan and even being 21 is considered too old to start in that industry.
It's giving PDFile vibes.
It’s strange how the average age is getting younger now because even back in the 2000s, plenty of idols debuted in their 20s.
Boa was an exception for debuting at 13 or 14.
@@jellyrollyexcuse me baby vox, ses and finkl all had super young maknaes and members, who started the industry practice of debuting super young idols baby vox in 1998 so don't spread misinformation because debuted kids in minors in kpop has been a thing since 1st gen and if you don't believe go back and calculate the ages but don't spread misinformation. In only feels like it increased because the number of groups that debuted has increased
Yay, a new ANTM reaction video! I love your commentary, please keep these videos coming because you’re killing it! ❤
We appreciate your dedication and consistency. We hope to see more content like this. Keep up the good work.
Jessica, your hair looks so beautiful in this video! ❤
Age restriction is very common and culturally acceptable in Japan. If this was an ad on the internet, it would likely post an age limit. But it is not fair to place models who do not match the criteria the Milk people had in mind.
LMAO the "I'm in japan and nothing is in english!! 😱" vibe is killing me
I love your hair style in this video! Super cute! 💕
Jessicaaaaaa OMFG YOUR THE QUEEN OF ANTM CONTENT ❤😂
Always good to see your contents 🔥🔥🔥
I love your videos!!♥️♥️
I missed u soooo much, I’m Italian (sorry for my English) I just wanted to tell u that I spent last month watching all of ur videos and u are the funniest person in the world.. loooooooove the way u deliver jokes, soooo smart and accurate, love u
The line “I can disappoint my family in OTHER WAYS!” has just made me subscribe. Hilarious!
Aw girl, as a Japanese person, I loved hearing you speak! What can’t you do, queen?
Hi Jessica, been watching your videos for months now and I'm a proud viewer who loves your videos. I don't know if you reacted to this episode but there was an episode where a model (Rebecca C4) faints in front of the judges and is taken to the hospital. I was wondering if you would do a reaction on that particular episode?
P.S. I'm hoping to go to Japan one day for myself
This feels like the producers made up the age being too old in japan when they were praising her. I feel like they would have bypassed the age. I think the contestants were also very disrespectful yelling on the streets of japan like that. I bet the japanese were like "wow americans really are loud"
He’s kinda old, and the other lady looks a bit old too. Is that why they’re style coordinators, because they’re old?! Eva did look cute, but Amanda’s ice blue eyes were so gorgeous. To think Yaya actually would have won, but she took extra time to shop for herself. No no no, you’re wasting our precious ANTM time miss Yaya.
Man I miss my T-Mobile Sidekick! I think I had every model after the first model. I think the second model was the first model to have a color screen. Nostalgia!
If 25 is old! I must be ancient since I'm 38 years old
Hello fellow senior citizen. 🤣
@@sylverscale yes I'm ancient
I’m the crypt keeper 😂
Same. I am 30 lol
i love your hairstyle! you look so pretty🥰
You look beautiful Jessica. Great video. Missed the antm reactions
Wow I forgot how young Eva was when she was on ANTM
*17 by Ladytron starts playing*
She looked so cute. Poor girl!
Jessica you are so relatable because I too, need incentive to leave the house 😆
Jessica: The Japanese are more polite than Americans
Japanese designers to a 25 year old: You’re old.
🤣
In this case, for a Lolita style campaign, I somewhat understand that they're searching for a very young model with more soft, youthful face features.
In reality, outside of ANTM they very possibly would've chosen someone of even younger age than 19.
Some of the smaller train lines run in Japanese only, which can be hard especially if you are trying to translate it and the sign flips super quick. If you ask politely though, people are very willing to help you(the young man who helped me actually pulled the train schedule up on his phone so I didn’t have to worry about it flipping away too fast).
I also had a scare with my eye where a mass burst and covered my vision with floaters 2 days before I left. My ophthalmologist decided to wait til I got back to fix it so I wouldn’t risk complications while in a different country, so I can feel for that anxiety.
Also you SHOULD try to learn at least some conversational language before traveling to a country, but they don’t do it “for us(US citizens).” They also get travel from Europe and ALOT of Australia(met a ton of aussies while there). I’ve traveled to countries before and heard other American travelers assume they speak English because of us and I’m like “uh…we didn’t invent the English language..”
Great updo!
Eva and Ann meeting up in the street was so cute
You're not joking about lolita prices *laugh/cries in Angelic Pretty* it is why i started doing handmade.
This show told all of the contestants over 21 that they were old.
Jessica your hair looks so pretty 😊
Neat $$ translation tip! 😊
They always set such unrealistic expectations for these girls on their gosees because apparently Tyra’s done 25 in one day 🙄🙄
I never watched this show but wow, Amanda is so so gorgeous! I felt so sad for her when she said she couldn't see the signs :(
I was like Oh...I'm turning 24 this year, and I would be considered too old
Idk something's weird to me when they call models 25 and over "old". It gives me feeding child predator vibes just sayin...
Also Jessica you look fabulous !!!!!!
I love the one store method. Like just get the things at one store and work on making sure your look is put together
Mustard and ketchup! I SCREAMED 😂😂😂😂😂 seriously, it’s very McDonald’s.
Watching this at 30 is blowing my mind. I’m an ancient artifact. 🤣
😂😂😂 Same
The easiest for lolita fashion would probably be some plain basic cheap clothes and then a good second hand store with some grandma style things. A cute lil cardigan, some nice jewelry, some cute socks. And I did like Evas outfit too, it did translate as lolita x streetstyle.
your hair is amazing
George Washington had wooden teeth, ha ha ha.
This is the best way to watch ANTM.
I'm so impressed with your Japanese, Jessica!! Bravo 👏
Jessica I will not take this slander against socks and sandals, ok? I simply will not take it! 😡😂😂
Jess didn't say Goodbye at the end. WE NEED CLOSURE!
As a 26 year old, I always joke that I’m way too old for ANTM and Leo lol
I’m surprised this wasn’t sponsored by square space!
I dont get why modeling should be something you have to start young.. Its not like ballet or some other sport where you have to perform som special mobility or other..
Commenting on the Age thing: As a gamer, I was really into this game Genshin Impact thats free to play. I was very excited to learn character builds and combinations of elements yadayadayada. Well, a new character came out named Diona who was only 13. Was my favorite because she was also a Sagittarius, a cook, and was ice elemental. I went to the Genshin Impact community page so I can learn any fast ways to get more powerful. I don't want my comment to be banned but lets just say Diona was popular with the creeps. I was on the page to find help, but I was deeply sickened how some people were fine with what they were saying about a younger fictional character. I was so disgusted I stopped playing the game and left the community. They lowkey fetishize the younger people and that makes me uncomfortable.
I'm legally a ghost. 👻
"A lot of the signs are IN Japanese."
Weird. Almost like you're in Japan.
Lol G Washington had wooden teeth! 😂 I dont know about the toothbrush though...
Shouldn't the ANTM producers have told the MILK people, "We have 25 y.o. models, we know it's older than you like, but make an exception." What's the point if 25 means never having a chance?
Om the other hand, ARIGATO JESSICA!!! I've always wondered in a general way how to compare dollars to yen! Now I know if I'm looking at Japanese websites!
Nah, the producers definitely knew this would happen. It's always a set-up
You were right with the Japanese XD don’t worry lol if you said it with more confidence it would have been much better! I just got out of 2 years of Japanese classes so my brain has permanently ingrained Japanese into it. Shoutout my sensei really knows how to force you into learning XD
Commercial modeling is alot less crazy in general. ANTM takes all the negatives of fashion modeling & hits it out of the park.
All the girls showing the style in the beginning looked cute.
Welp, I'm nearing retirement, and I didn't even know it.
She may be 25 but her outfit is really the best lolita in my opinion
I think it’s because she looked older than 25
A 25 year old American is too old to appeal to the Japanese market that uses infantalisation of women in clothing advertising to appeal and advertise to both men and women.
Generally 25yr old Japanese women don't look 25 by US beauty standards.
I don't think it was meant as a mean judgement of her age or appearance nor were they saying that 25 is too old to be a model... Just that an American over 25 would be unlikely to find work/success modeling in Japan.
It is a small but crucial distinction.
Not wooden toothbrush it was wooden teeth. But even that is actually a myth. He didn’t have wooden teeth, but by time he was inaugurated, he only had one natural tooth left.
I remember this episode, they show people on the street and there’s a dude dressed up with Sesshomaru from inuyasha in the background
Amanda played the game well in this challenge.
