Key word is "just." Not "instead of" which has been Nintendo's mantra since the Wii. You _can_ have both innovation and bleeding-edge performance. In fact, we almost did. Initially the Wii (at the time code-named 'Nintendo Revolution') was going to compete with the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 in power. However, Iwata said that he wanted a low-profile console that was affordable, and small enough to fit on any coffee table. The size of about 3 DVD cases stacked together. Obviously, you cannot get PS3/360 level power (at that time) in such a small package. Even at the size that they were, both the PS3 and 360 had cooling issues leading RROD, YLOD, BLOD, etc. The reason why I said they could have had both is because of the price. The XBOX 360 core system (no HDD) was $299. The 20GB HDD XBOX 360 was $399. The Wii was $199. Making the console on-par or even somewhere in the neighborhood of the 360 would NOT have made it more expensive. Nintendo was just trying to be greedy not wanting to sell the console at a loss, but like in all cases greed clouds your judgment and stops you from bigger blessing later. People didn't care about the Wii being cheaper. They cared about he motion-control and they would have paid whether it cost to play that. Had the Wii of been HD, after the novelty of motion-control wore off, they still would have had an HD system capable of playing all the games that the 360 and PS3 were and thus the Wii probably would have been best-selling console of all-time. Trying to be greedy they played themselves. Just like they did with he N64 and GameCube.

As long as the ram is double what’s in the Xbox series S. Xbox Series S specs. 10 GB of RAM. 512 GB storage drive (360 GB of usable space) or 1 TB storage drive, depending on the model. 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth. 4 TFLOPS. If the Nintendo can double that then everything else the Nintendo is doing is fine it doesn’t matter if it’s the highest specs in the world.

A more powerful console hasn't won since the 16-bit era 30 years ago, which is absolutely crazy to me.
How long does Nintendo expect the Switch 2 run to last? 7-8 years like the current switch or more like 5-6 years? There are a lot of previous generation 3rd party ports that never made it to the switch due to it's limitations. The Switch 2 will have no problem running those games.
A hybrid console for Nintendo seems the best for them righg now they should honestly try to make it a permanent thing like how xbox or sony just makes more powerful consoles they should just make more powerful switches.
These specs are way better than what I expected honestly. Given what Nintendo was able to pull off on the Switch, imagine what they can with the level of a Series S.

Seeing as how the Switch won the “console war” despite being derided as woefully underpowered for this generation and the massive backlash the PS5 pro is getting for graphics looking no better than base PS5 (and I’d argue insignificantly better than PS4 pro) I’m not at all worried. Until we get to “Ready Player One” levels of immersion, we’re officially in the area of diminishing graphical returns.
Well, about the specs, I don't really bother if you looking a deal 10 years with Microsoft about Call of Duty Microsoft and Nintendo have now negotiated and signed a binding 10-year legal agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players - the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity That's mean next gen Nintendo is more powerful than original switch and can compete with current gen from Playstation and Xbox

This is actually PERFECT. We need to remember that Nintendo in particular goes by a specific philosophy when it comes to their games. They've been doing this ever sense the non-colored gameboy. At that point, there were already better performing handhelds than the gameboy. But the gameboy outlived them all and still sold the most.
Every single month its the same thing? "It was supposed to be this month, but an insider just told everyone it was actually delayed into next month so it's actually next month. But hey, 10th times the charm right?"
As someone who plays on both PC and Switch, all I want from this thing is a backwards compatible system with a reasonable power boost that's roughly on par with a Steam Deck that's not going to bog down at the sight of a couple particles and that doesn't force any visually appealing game to run at 30fp. If Valve managed to pull that off 2 years ago, I'm sure Nintendo can do it as well. Maybe an ergonomics update for the woefully uncomfortable joycons would be appreciated as well, but nothing to reinvent the wheel is necessary for me.
No, it won't sell because people don't see the point in upgrading to the same thing again; that's the mindset of Nintendo gamers. It will flop not due to performance but because it's perceived as the same product offered again.
@ThaexakaMavro yeah... nobody plays Nintendo consoles for the graphics, lol. They haven't actively tried to compete in the graphics department since before you were probably born.
I think that companies (3rd party) who really want to hit peak sales numbers are going to have to target the new Nintendo console. The specs sound good enough to make this appealing to those companies (especially companies like square enix) and for that reason, I think it will definitely have the 3rd party games to fill in the gaps between their first parties on the new console.
Thank you. 😂 These fools think that Nintendo is after graphical power. Look at Xbox and Sony. Long dev time, 60% unhappy fans, overpriced consoles, uncompleted games, dlc, microtransactions, early access, pre-order promises broken or misled. And yes I'm a Nintendo fan since good old SNES and GB.

The handheld mode should be PS4 as base. The original PS4 is what the original switch already is, but a bit weaker. I am sure the system will be powerful enough. Games are scalable these days, so it is not like Nintendo will be left behind. Will it have fast loading like an SSD? Will the system have haptic feedback? People keep complaining about the lack of a graphical update on current generation systems but forget all about fast loading and haptic feedback. These things distinguish PS5 from PS4. People focus too much on graphics as the distinguishing factor between consoles. I get why, but people are going to have to rely on other things outside of visuals going forward.
The gpu is upgraded , the ram is a lot more. Definitely worth 400$. Everyone wanted full 1080 p we got it. AI upscaling for 4k tvs? We got it . I don't want a massive upgrade honestly it's literally probably four times that of the original switch. So PS4 power is great. If you want more go pay 700$ for a ps 5 pro.
If this means that it can run elden ring, that's as good as I'd want it. Nintendo will never be as powerful as the new gen consoles because they've found their niche in hybrid consoles that are about a generation behind in terms of power
The switch could almost run Elden Ring, really just needed a little bit more CPU performance and a tiny bit more GPU. The Witcher 3 runs on the switch, not pretty, but it does run. Switch 2 is going to be very impressive for what it is.
Too weak? Look at what they did with the Switch. Additionally, we can all agree game budgets are out of control. Games need to scale down, not up, and if the next Switch is relative to a PS4 that puts it in the sweet spot.

Most modern games on Xbox/PS/PC are heavily under-optimised to hit their launch deadlines - i don't care what people say - it's the darn reality, get used to it. When you develop specifically for a hand-held device though, you have different quality standards that have to be met. You can't expect the raw brute-force performance of the hardware to do all the heavy lifting for you. If Nintendo continues its trend, I see it surpass PlayStation/Xbox in terms of software quality and gaming user experience. We are definitely buying the Nintendo Switch2 - we'll skip the PS5 Pro since we already have x2 PCs and x2 PS5.
The Switch main bottleneck is usually memory bandwidth. Switch 2 will have 4X the memory bandwidth, 3X the RAM, and >20X the storage bandwidth(compared to cart or sd card). Those are the exciting numbers to me in terms of what Nintendo will be able to take advantage of with games like TotK. Remember BotW and TotK were streaming, open-world games pulled off with a "measly" 100MB/s(ballpark for cart/sd with cart being less maybe) of storage transfer.. Not only will Switch 2 almost have enough RAM to fit the whole cart in memory, but it will have 2.xGB/s of storage bandwidth for streaming assets. It's clear based on BotW, TotK, Bowser's Fury, BotW 4K and Matrix demo they gave, and the Zelda team's remarks that they are leaning into games built on streaming open worlds. It's hard to even imagine how much extra their new games will be with the new specs.
If you bought the switch at launch and do it again for the switch 2, then you would have spent around $850 USD of next year’s money to have the ability to play video games for at least 16 years. That’s less than $55 a year, less than $5 per month for a current Nintendo console. That’s INSANE value.
And that’s not even considering that there’s a good chance of backwards compatibility and you might be able to sell your first switch, which has also minimally depreciated compared to other consoles.
@@BenEmmerson-d2t Also, you don’t need to purchase a separate drive or pay a premium for a version that is capable of playing physical games. You have the option to buy a game enjoy it for as long as you want and then sell it or swap it for minimal loss or preserve it forever. Nintendo games only gain appreciation with time, and in some cases you will end up with more value than what you paid for. That’s worth the extra price imo.

The specs are known for almost 2 years and he makes now a video about it 😂😂
uh yeah
I smell a troll!!
Those specs are rumors and leaks so technically the spec's aren't known yet
@@Retrogamershaun
Yes they are, but ts fine, you UA-cam and Twitter users aren't known for being smart, not by a long shot.
"Specs are known"
You don't know what "Rumor" is, do you?
If the Nintendo switch 2 can play at 720 docked 25 to 30 fps solid im all in. Its about games not consoles
As long as nintendo keeps making games that are functional and fun it will be enough
No one cares about it being weaker than current gen.
Folks just want to play fun games again
I care.
Yet the fanbase will screetch for ports of current gen games and they aren’t coming because it can’t handle it. Just like with the current Switch.
@@LakesideAmusementPro i dont see people screeching for new games ports, just old games ports, like older pokemon games for example.
But just cause 2 has a 400 sq mile map on an Xbox 360 and looks just fine..
@@rodrigo53 what about the games for it, they’re like £30 each
How much do you think the switch 2 will cost?
@@BenEmmerson-d2t Also, you don’t need to purchase a separate drive or pay a premium for a version that is capable of playing physical games. You have the option to buy a game enjoy it for as long as you want and then sell it or swap it for minimal loss or preserve it forever.
Nintendo games only gain appreciation with time, and in some cases you will end up with more value than what you paid for.
That’s worth the extra price imo.

i think this is good news... as it tells me they will also maintain an emphasis on 2-D platformers; which i think is fantastic.
Ps4 with DLSS handheld and PS4 Pro with DLSS docked?.. how is that weak for a rumoured $399 console?
These specs are fine. Game devs are hardly tapping into the power of these machines anyway
Look man, non of these pc handhelds can last for hours, so why expect something more powerful. Nintendo is the master of optimizing a handheld.
Super Mario Sunshine is one of the best Mario games
I've got a OLED which suits me just fine. To buy the 'Switch 2' it would be because of a game I really wanted that would only be on the new console.
I think the actual point of the Switch 2 is that you will have great games, aswell as retrocompatibilidade. I've been thinking: what if the Switch 2 uses DLSS to enhance Switch 1 games? It would be awesome!
@meatbasedvegan4859 My personal experience would be to run the original Breath of the Wild using DLSS on Switch 2. Played that on both consoles, and imagine the leap in experience.
Your current switch games would run and look better on it
It's a win win for both sides
The thing I'm most excited about is that Nintendo surely realizes this. They have almost certainly been working on a new 3D Zelda game for years now, and the Mario for even longer.
@@rapzid3536 I think it's an new Mario game. They need something big to launch, and that or Metroid Prime would be huge
At the end, as many times said in the channel, all comes down to how enjoyable a game is. The Switch showed that power isn’t all to make a great console, mainly if it is a handheld.
Great video really enjoyed it!
You’re always miserable…. Why?
Parents forgot to give them hugs.
Its about the games. I trust Nintendo to bring good games so unless they do something seriously wrong, I’ll be there.
I'm buying it regardless💁♂️
Let's just put it this way the only system I'm actually excited for is the switch 2.
