- In this game of Civ 6, we’ll be playing The Aztecs in our latest Civilization VI A to Z challenge. The mission? To optimise the entire empire under one perfect ruler (me) - and to improve as many lakes as we can.
We’re playing today a slightly modded version of the Aztecs based around their Civ 5 abilities - namely the ability to put down a unique improvement on lake tiles. I then made a map full of lakes and went to work building the greatest yields seen in Civ 6 outside a Teddy appeal run.

as a mexican historian, this rework seems so well thought and made that makes me even more excited for this playtrough; also is kinda fun to see how people pronounce nahuatl but no blame tbf.
You know given the reaction I normally get I didn;t even try - but yes, this mod is a lovely one to play. It's really recommend it if people haven't tried it to this point

Reminder that habours work on lake tiles! With these unique improvements and Auckland, there should be some delicious delicious yields soon.
They do! I start bulding them later on tiles that don't take the improvement. I didn't like replacing those tiles where I could help it, felt wrong

With all these lakes, all I can think about is the sheer number of polders that could be built playing as the Dutch, especially given how uncommon valid polder locations are in most maps.

I think there should be a +1 faith +1 production lake pantheon for these types of maps, comment what it would be named.

Tourism will probably be the easiest victory type since those improvements grant faith tourism after flight, and moving units around the map or trying to take strategic positions around cities would be extremely painful
Quite interesting. And I am glad the AI is going well and putting up a challenge...
That builder improvement really feels more like civ 5, cool!

I have an idea with this map type that could work (emphasis on could): Late game navy with either Moksha or Reyna. You wait until you have Canal tech then connect all the lakes with canals (as you do). Then you use late-game naval techs to rush down enemy cities which are likely to be coastal. then, to continue the attack you use moksha or Reyna to quickly purchase canals in newly conquered cities.
This probably won't work but I think it's fun to try either way.
To be fair a navy only land locked map like this would be hilarious
Indonesia could be a good choice. With being able to use lakes quite well.
Yesterday I learned that a specific set of map qualities on got lakes (I believe it’s numerous continents, standard size, low sea level) ends up with a grid map of 5 evenly sized and evenly spaced square continents. It is absolutely bizarre and I kept restarting the same map and getting the exact same result

very fun, i still think going full land grab is better since the production is quite lacking. also you're 100 gonna get a headache thinking about making the lake part of your war strat... do keep industrial zones in mind since you're gonna be building canals like crazy, btw ¿ can you even build panama canal?
just to add - remember aztec can use builders to rush canals also - very handy later = )

I assume you’ll do a wonder thing for China, but you could try to circumnavigate a lakes world with them as well

Is there a mod that allows Polders to work when adjacent to only two land tiles? Because I love building them but sometimes the shape of the coast prevents building very many.
Alternatively, a mod that allows polders to always be placed on lake tiles would be nice too.
Yep, there is! Come to discord and ask - geniunly I don't remember what it was called but SilverFox (who makes lots for me) was either talking about it OR actually made it, I can't remember which!

I'm not sure but were the twins heroes Aztec? If you "captured" the unit you could sacrifice that unit.
We spoke about this in the channel supporters chat and they are in fact Mayan - but we'll absolutely look to use them in that game!

Can't you simply connect the three lakes around your capital with a single canal to the east?
Canals do not permit 3-way jnctions.
Yep - as Jason says, you can only connect two bodies of water with a single canal
what are the got lake settings?
I set the map to inverse to be all land, enabled all lake options, increased the water content and pressed the button in the bottom right that turns all sea into lakes. Was fun,would reccomnend

Melee units have like 7 types of their kind while anticavalry, siege and ranged only 5 each. I see disbalance there
