    The 2nd and last rooms were very well designed, but the first and third rooms relied on the player figuring out there were glitches in the map geometry with no real indication that they were there (as well as the third room giving no indication on what you were supposed to do in general). A well designed escape room should have the player be able to figure it out with the hints they're provided with in the room.

    • @fisherfry9459

      I was looking for someone thinking this as well. Lacking hints just makes its random work and luck.

      That's the best escape rooms. There's a logic that's consistent, and you have access to all the tools needed. If a new mechanic is introduced, like a boulder disappearance after beating a trainer, then that mechanic should be taught through game design. Instead of a master ball hidden in trees that are normally impassable, have an item ball in the trees to encourage the player to investigate the first room so they know it's possible, and then it's ok to be hidden after that after knowing it's possible. A level up moveset shouldn't be messed with unless the move is available immediately, or the Pokémon with a move is needed beforehand, and the experience from a fight levels it up to learn a new move then. Otherwise how would we know Farfetch'd learns cut in one level, or what stops us from thinking Meowth doesn't learn it by leveling up 5 levels for example.
      These puzzle rooms are ok, but following logic already established in the game, or using gane design to teach new mechanics, would improve it a lot.

    Part of designing a puzzle is designing clues, some of these puzzles are the equivalent of handing someone a combination lock and calling it a puzzle

    Okay, room 3. I LOVE the vision of the room. A simple path surrounded by a false puzzle. But gosh darn it Fank you need to give CLUES to the things XD Have an NPC or something talk about reading the sign again, or someone mention falling through a wall? But aside from that, it was SO awesome XD Loved the little jokes like the stairs and the house insurance.

    • @AstroidmaniaVideos

      A lot of the NPC riddles hinted towards that stuff, but it was still very subtle LOL

    • @Lyro92
      @Lyro92 10 місяців тому +95

      I love the idea, but I'd love it more if it was fully built around mechanics, not glitches. Like invisible walls you can walk through, eh, but like using abilities to cut obstacles. Like for example, using cut to cut grass to not get a guaranteed death encounter, or using sweet scent to summon a needed pokemon, things like that.

    • @photoo848
      @photoo848 4 місяці тому +8

      @@Lyro92 seconding this. Second Pokémon Escape Room I'm seeing and I really hope this becomes a common thing but it has to test the pokémon knowledge of the players. The only way I would expect players to test for fake walls is if you put Koga in the room and even then it would really be stretching it (as Koga's gym still had some visual indication)
      Playing into the mechanics, movesets and lore should be what these puzzles test for.

    For the first puzzle, it's not that it's 'too hard', is that they didn't expect the learn sets to have been changed. So maybe with a hint or warning towards that at the start it is more manageable.

    I like the last room a lot (if it's done Dylan and Tobin's way) because it's all about understanding mechanics and planning. The first one was weird because it depended on finding a glitch and pokemon learning hm moves by level up

    • @cesargpfis
      @cesargpfis 6 місяців тому +4

      I know this is an old comment but I just ran into this video and wanted to clear something up. The glitch part is absolutely fair, no room should depend on glitches unless clearly hinted at, but Farfetch’d does learn Cut by level up at that level (at least until the Switch games, which I’m not familiar with). It’s one of those trivia things you either end up learning somehow or never get to know, but not a modified move set.

    These puzzles using Pokémon mechanics are so creative! You really thought these through, I think they would have gotten them with more in-game hints. Great video dude!

    • @facetiousmarbles3539
      @facetiousmarbles3539 10 місяців тому +8

      I agree some of the puzzles require a deep knowledge of Pokemon, and to figure that out while doing it must be very rewarding and educational. However. A lot of the puzzles are straight-up badly designed. Having walls that you need to check and walk through with no visual indication is simply tedious and annoying. Having a sign that you need to read 5 times with no form of indication is frustrating. There's nothing smart or interesting about that. Verbally lying to the players just when they ask a question, like the unreasonable non-puzzles themselves, is just so disappointing from design and player perspective. All the mechanics in this video could be compiled into one or two rooms and left at that.
      If he were to do something like this again, he needs to keep a consistent theme and teach the players how to think in a coherent manner, instead of throwing curve balls after curve balls that feel like they exist just to be ha ha funny random.

    I think that the last room is a bit to be desired because you have to find both the Pokémon center and the pincurchin as individual steps. The rooms from best to worst as actual puzzles:
    1. Room 2. Just a genuinely good puzzle room, rewards game knowledge but doesn't rely too heavily on it--as long as you know what sticky hold does you can intuit the rest fairly easily.
    2. Room 4. Even more heavily relies on game knowledge. With stuff like nature power being affected by prankster it can feel super awesome to know the answer, but if you didn't know a very obscure fact then you're stuck trial and error-ing until you learn it. Also the leveling up sucks when this is under a time limit.
    3. Room 1. The puzzle relies on you completely arbitrarily being able to walk through some objects and finding a hidden object with zero indication that it's there. This room isn't *complete* garbage since it's small enough that you can accidentally find it by bumping around everywhere, but it's still super arbitrary. The rest of the puzzle is fine.
    4. Room 3. I mean, you're already aware of this lol. There is no level on which this puzzle is any kind of fair, the solution is purely nonsense in order to facilitate the troll.

    Frank, I think you've found your true calling. This and the ultimate Pokemon video have been amazing. unbelievable even. you were funny as a nuzlocker and were always kinda the comedic relief in those videos. In these, you kick ass. Be proud for I think you have created something completely original and high quality. I think its the highest praise one could give to a content creator when I say this: I wanna play this.

    Swung by after watching SmallAnt's version. This has the feeling of a really rough first draft, but it's such an awesome concept.

    i'd love to see one of these where all of the solutions are less technical and more goofy (more like room 3) cause that room was a ton of fun to watch!

    Frank needs to be scouted by a game dev team like this man’s brain is so huge

      Room 3 was so unintuitive with 0 hints. Room 1 you just had to walk through a glitched tree??? Impossible timers. Relying on luck for some of the legendary kills.
      Realllly cool concept but he still has a way to go for good level design.

      @@grifleep4916just because you didnt see any of the hints doesnt mean there weren't and number 3 was actually incredibly smart as it was a very simple win you just had to not overthink it

      I wouldn't give him that much credit, this is mostly just tricks and simple pokemon knowledge
      Room 1 was just just a glitched tree
      Room 2 was more interesting, relying on ability knowledge and thief, best room in the bunch
      Room 3 was just a distraction room, he even mentioned this himself
      Room 4 is just a "Lv1 vs Lv100" room, nothing noteworthy
      If you wanna talk about real pokemon escape rooms, imagine if he touched on in depth calculations like IV's, EV's, Natures and Breeding. There are plenty of things you can do to make these rooms more interesting
