What i wish from Volvo and this car, is to offer an HUD (Head-Up Display) option, that changes the panel above the steering wheel to incorporate the system. Also, for the EX30 to be a Tesla Model Y killer (as many reviewers say it, even if it is the smallest volvo) it needs, alongside the normal towing, to have an option for power and reverse power trailer coupling, enabling a battery trailer/camper to extend the range and storage capacity (the range extension is needed to replace the range lost while towing, and for longer cross-country trips where you need the extra range, and extra storage (what you could carry in a model Y comfortably, it will not fit as volume in this EX30, and you will need to place it in a trailer or an external storage place), and it could tandem draw power, 2/3 car and 1/3 trailer, to not heat up the passive cooled trailer battery, it all depends of the trailer battery size, to deplete them at a similar % discharge/usage rate).
Ups, Nearly forgot, what I would also expect from Volvo and all Sunroof/Moonroof vehicles, is a removable or retractable top sunroof cover that blocks 80-100% of the heat (at least as an option, in special with the recent HEATWAVES).
@@benjaminsmith2287 I also really hope for an "ESTATE" EV like the XC70/XC60, but the truth about big EV like Model Y, X etc. is that they are so heavy, they eat tires instead of petrol/fuel, so having a smaller lighter, and more efficient EV, would be way more economical and greener for the environment...
@@Narinjas The market for estates is shrinking, unfortunately. The v60 and v90 sales were poor in North America and Volvo will put its efforts into the higher riding crossovers before they put out an estate. There's just no more money in them. And I agree about how BEVs eat up tires. It's a BEV downside.
Another great review! Looking forward to driving impressions and more details. Might want to clarify that all speakers are housed within that soundbar, which adds to the minimalist and space-saving design.
Volvo did a great job with this car except for their decision to go with only one screen and not driver's instrument display screen and taking out the 2 rear window switches. Otherwise, they're true to their design and feel. The $35,000 model is not the one shown and packages and such will raise the car price up about $10K. However, I believe it will be sold online so dealer markup will not be an issue.
@carconfections - You mentioned that this is Cloud Blue, but it looks off-white on my laptop screen. How much blue is in the paint when you looked at the car up-close?
It was definitely a light hue of blue to the paint for sure. Looked more white to me as well in indoor lighting. That said, indoor lighting can really change the overall look so I'd say it will look more blue outdoors. Hope that helps!
I wish reviews would stop using the $35,000 price reference. Will it be sold or purchased at that price. (excluding destination). If so I want to see proper non sponsored, non guided review of that $35,000 model
Volvo did not specify the trim level breakdown or pricing yet. It will be released at a later date, however, we must operate on the information we are supplied with. We do know this vehicle will start at $34,950 for the US market. Thanks
@@CarConfections I look forward to that review. I hope this new platform will. Also lend to Volvo making a better hybrid as it moves to an all electronic lineup. ( I love the XC40 but dislike the rear passenger space)
@@SethPinnock Volvo will not build a hybrid over any new platform. They're all-in on BEVs. I think they'll make improvements to the hybrids but they're being phased out.
I’m a Kona N owner that would have preferred an AWD EV version. Not only is there no announcer Kona N EV, they redesigned the Kona and made it bigger. I really like this one, waiting for AWD price.
I love this design. I wonder why Volvo didn't just make the hybrid version of the EX-30!? It could literally replace the XC-40, which is barely selling in a lot of markets.
@@CarConfections they are going to unveil it on August 9 at noon. So I recommend you get your tickets to go check it out. I’m not going but I’m gonna stay home and watch the vehicle get unveiled.
Do you think there’s enough space btwn B pillar & rear seat cushion for my dog to jump onto the floor? Very short but beefy 40 lb dude can’t jump directly onto the seat.
Good First review ….. The vehicle is quite small but will be good for a daily commute and errands ….. actually ok range if Charging stations are available for longer trips. The minimalist design I think will work for this size EV as the screen resolution is great and the new software should improve this a lot. The ground clearance is really TOO LOW and should be about two inches higher to get closer to an SUV …. but this is more sedan like so I will wait for the raised model.
Heat pump is pretty standard on these and it's similar to the drain you would see on an ICE vehicle. Where you lose is that EVs in general just have range issues with cold temps.
Great review Mason! I like the idea of a ex -30 and I own a 2013 c30 . I don’t know: the exterior is on point and minimalist interior is great, that sound bar is a selling point . But still rather but a one owner used volvo instead . Maybe in years I’ll come around to the fully electric. In my opinion hybrids are better for the environment and wish they keep making those with less need for ev battery raw materials .
13:30 yaaay, phone chargers on the floor! how user friendly.... why not insert a "charging' shelf between display and that central glovebox...? also that central console storage is terrible.... its cupholders or storage.... not clever. i prefer XC40 interior much more. no HUD is safety issues as well.
69kwh gross capacity with 64kwh useable, Volvo website says 26.5kwhs consumption per 100 miles in max range version rwd trim. So yeah no way this thing is gonna get a 275mile epa range rating. Do the math yourself based on volvos own website numbers? And you arrive at about 225miles for the awd trims(less for the cross country with big 18s&at tires) 235ish miles for the rwd trims. Core model's are 5k to step up to the next up trim level in other markets. So with any options this is a b segment cuv bolt suv size for over 40k. With no tax credits and slow charging at 26mins 10-80% A leaked us price sheet showing 35-55k is the range. And another leak said all the perf awd trims will be 52-55k.
It is great they kept the Thor's Hammer Headlights. The speckled plastic looks cheap. Sound bar instead of several speakers around the cabin is cheap. I hate no grab handles and no pano sunshade in Teslas and I hate it hear.
You had my interest until you entered the interior cabin. I’m not excited about the minimalist interior design. For that same reason, I will never purchase a Tesla. I’m old school, and I still prefer an instrument cluster. Otherwise, it’s a beautiful car.
Lmao last year GM said the Blazer would start st 44,000.00 now they're eliminating base model and asking for 10,000 00 more then what they promised. Keep your excitement in check peeps 😅
Beautiful exterior design , but inside is BUNK. Why cant these car companies realize just because its a EV does not mean its futuristic. 26 minutes to charge 10%-80% that a long time to charge and quite the range of percentages of life on the battery. what is the warranty of these batteries ? these EV's need to be on point if they expect to ever sell. Along with a huge majority of people living outside of a city including myself these EV's have yet to prove that they are a reliable change from ICE. In a storm our city's still go out for hours if not days at a time how do you charge, what if you have kids that park on the street how do they charge their cars, or apartment buildings that host thousands of family's how do they charge. These are things real people think about , car companies need to put themself in the shoes of the actual buyers not just their wallets. you guys have great videos and these cars are nice to look at but are not realistic for the general population yet .
Very impressive. Very thoughtful, modern design. Volvo is stepping up their game.

The HK system includes a separate subwoofer in the trunk area I believe as well. It's something around 1400 watts IIRC

The Headlights on the EX90 do have a flashing "Animated" sequence, but they are mechanical.
