This is a mesmerizing one from Epica‘s brilliant all collaboration EP out last year The Alchemy Project. By the way Epica performed in Costa Rica a few months ago I’m sorry if you guys missed it I think that’s the only time they’ve ever been there.
The Song based on a Story by Hans Christian Andersen (from Denmark, like Myrkur) "The little Mermaid", but the "Happy End" is, that she killed the Prince and return to the sea, to her sisters. 🙂
This is the song that got me onto Charlotte hearing that beautiful voice of her. Can’t thank Simone/Epica enough for that 😊 It’s a beautiful blending of three different voices (and hair colors), love it 🥰
Thanks for doing this reaction. If you like to see Simone and Alissa White Gluz check out Cradle to the Grave from the newly released solo album by Simone.
Have a read of the original Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson. In Epicas version the little mermaid does the deed and kills the prince. Super version and an excellent song.
These 3 are mesmerizing, as you would expect from Sirens. You could even see it in your eyes as you listened. I know you've listened to Sminoe a lot, including In Love We Rust from the new album. She just released a video featuring Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy called Cradle to the Grave. It's awesome. Another Dutch singer I know you would enjoy is Dianne van Giersbergen, formerly of Xandria. She released several songs from her solo album this past year. She is a spinto soprano singer. She worked with Arjen Luccasen. I recommend the song A Symphonic Tragedy. You won't regret it!
Hauntingly beautiful song. Homer never described the original Sirens but over the centuries Sirens slowly morphed into half female half fish creatures synonymous with mermaids Song is inspired by the original Little Mermaid tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Lyrics are worth a read. Simone, Charlotte and Amalie Bruun of Myrkur are the Little Mermaids' sisters trying to remind her of her home and encouraging her to take a dagger and kill the Prince. In the original tale, the Little Mermaid is heartbroken that the Prince is going to marry another and when it happens she will turn into sea foam and disappear. Her sister's appear and give her a dagger to kill the Prince and regain her mermaid tail and be able to return to the sea and live out her life as a mermaid with them. In the story she is unable to kill the Prince and throws herself into the sea where instead of turning to foam she turns into a luminous and ethereal spirit. Other spirits welcome her and tell her if she completes good works on earth over 300 years then she can earn an eternal soul in heaven. The video IMO puts a twist on the original because we do see blood on the dagger indicating that the Little Mermaid does kill the Prince and returns to the sea to be with her sisters. But the lyrics from the final chorus have this line "We are the children of the sky. Come earn a soul that never dies" which sounds like the story and so the dagger is not used. As all great artists do they leave the interpretation up to us. If you want to check out more Myrkur you can check out Like Human and Mothlike from her album Spine released last fall. She has a very unique sound. She started out as a Black Metal artist and then morphed to a Nordic folk singer on her album Folkesange. On Spine she kind of morphs again into a place that is beautiful but doesn't neatly fit in any genre. Leaves of Yggdrasil is a great song to hear her Nordic folk influenced songs. Has a kind of Enya feel to it and she incorporates traditional Nordic folk instruments like the Nyckelharpa in to her music. Ulvinde is a great song to hear her Black Metal influenced music.
Hey M&G, any chance you will be checking out one of the three highly recommended and very exemplary live performances by The Gathering with Anneke in their 25th anniversary concerts in 2014? Reminder for the track names: Travel, On Most Surfaces and Waking Hour. It's been a few years since those were requested tbh. Anyway, if and when you get to those, enjoy!
Hi, the blond singer is Amalie Bruun, she is from Denmark, one of her musical projects is called Myrkur

Myrkur has an unusual style of music, a mix of black metal and folk. She often sings in Danish, but the songs are still compelling. You should try it!
Simone Simons "solo" album is out now. Amazing songs! Something to add to the list 😁

I have to correct you: the Sirens had a human face and a bird of prey body.
