This is amazing Carlo, thank you for sharing your experience with us! It's honestly not often that you see small filmmakers like yourself with that quality that you have lol.

@@carlostigs Of course man! If I may ask. Are you aiming to be a cinematographer in the film industry or are you doing the commercial stuff?

Hey so I’d love to be a Cinematographer for narrative work. I haven’t really had an opportunity to experience a full Film set yet, so I’m reluctant to say that’s my dream because I haven’t experienced it yet. I love commercial work as well, but in hopes of balancing both narrative, commercial and documentaries would be amazing in a way (if possible)

@@carlostigs Ahhh dude that is so freaking awesome. You have so much potential dude, I can see the motivation and hustle. I want to get into the narrative industry as well, but as an independent film director rather than a cinematographer.
I have no clue to enter the industry as well LOL. Seeing if UA-cam can be a way through, I'm also Linked In stalking LOL. I'd love to stay connected with out man, hopefully one day we'll bump into each other in the industry!

I wouldn't be surprised if you start landing big dp roles. You're sincerely dedicated to expressing a refined perspective, while remaining humble. That's what I notice coming through the lens on your channel.

Dope✊. Question, have you ever had a time where a client asked you to do something and you wasn't sure if your current skill set could pull it off? I'm in that situation now. I want to take the job but I don't want to take it and not be able to deliver.

    • @carlostigs

JoshDidItt hey dude! Great question, and Yes that has happened and tbh will probably happen often. Depending on what the job is and the client I think taking some amount of Risk is important to moving forward and growing. There have been a lot of times where I had no idea what I was doing on the job, but part of being a filmmaker is how you adapt to a situation, how you can problem solve and create something you didn’t think was possible. I think you have to really look at what their asking of you, then look at yourself and you’ll know deep down if you can accomplish it. It may be a really hard task, it may be stressful but trust me, you’ll regret not trying at least.

just always try to have a good understanding for client expectations. sometimes its more of a budget thing than your actual skills as many things are possible if you were to hire a crew and rent a ton of shit, basically anyone with little knowledge could hire a good Assistant Director and Grip/gaffer and pull of a ton of good shit, but again it costs money. I always tell clients anything is possible but for a price. if your worried than just charge a huge amount and if they pay hire ppl that help you and if they dont then no job to worry about.

super helpful man! I'm curious during the pre production phase when you were taking stills for the mood board and scouting out shots, did you bring lighting and set that up prior to shoot day? Also your stills matched the final video grade really well! Something I struggle with!

Great question. So this is a client I work with before so I had the opportunity to scout the location, and my lighting setup was very minimal. I had a soft source as my key light and there were very large windows with played a major roll. They had a lot of really nice lights hanging from above where I kinda had almost full control of them. I turned some on and some off. Once I did this I kinda liked it and figured this would be the look of the film
