Pete contributed so much to the sport with his iconic on field performance. He deserved to be disciplined for his behavior, but not to be banned from baseball.
Darrel is first-class. My appreciation of him as a ballplayer and a human being has only grown with time. Thank you, Darrel, for letting me try on your World Series ring many years ago at a United Way meeting.
Wow Darrel Chaney how nice to hear speak about Pete, remember you well as a Red! Bud Selig is in the Hall of Fame with zero hits. I have never bought a ticket to a game, turned the TV or radio on for a game to listen to Bud Selig. There is a man who holds 19 Major League Records and 11 National League Records who is not in the Hall of Fame!! There is No Hall of Fame without Pete in it! God Bless Pete and his family! Pete was a person who had an addiction. What’s MLB excuse now they are the enablers of gambling addiction. Shame on MLB!!!! Pete Rose will always be in my Hall of Fame!!!
I remember this not sure what year but in Greater Cincinnati Airport Doug Flynn said something to the effect he was on National Tv with Bench and Rose...Doug Flynn was a good player and so funny to me and down to earth.
I still enjoy the game. I grew up in the 70s and loved the BRM. Today's players are bigger, Stronger, faster and the majority throw harder. Most don't know anything about fundamentals though. It's just a different game with analytics. Like everything else in the world it changed. Nothing stays the same. I prefer 70s 80s baseball to today. But I still enjoy Today's game.
I might be in the minority but my personal feeling is that the Hall of Fame has lost it's credibility in the past few years. Not because of I disagree with the selections the voters have made in the last two decades but more because the voters have gotten too self righteous and pretend to be some kind of moral authority. A fan should look at it like this - Do I think that a bunch of sportswriters are better able to recognize baseball talent and greatness than I am ? I watch the game just the same as the electors do. I don't need anyone to confirm for me who was great and who wasn't. I can understand why a former player would be honored to have his name included in the list of all time greats . I get why the Hall of Fame is important to a baseball player. But as a fan, it doesn't change anything if a player gets elected. My favorite players growing up were Pete Rose , Mike Schmidt, Dave Parker, Dave Concepcion Mario Soto, , Kent Tekulve and Eric Davis. All of which have some connection to my favorite team or the general area where I have lived all of my life. Some those players have a plaque in Cooperstown and some don't but it wouldn't change anything about the how much I enjoyed watching them if they all were elected.
Chaney should retract that stupid comment!!!! PETE NEVER BET AGAINST HIS TEAM!!!!! Is Chaney off his rocker????? There is a street with a sign called Pete Rose Way beside GABP. GEESH.
He took $5000 to make sure his team loses a World Series. Rose never did that. If Joe Jackson had just placed a bet for his team to win he never would have been investigated.

Darrell is a quality human being. Enjoyed watching him with the Reds and Braves. God Bless.
RIP Charlie Hustle. Best baseball player ever. His records will never be broken.

There's actually a Joe Nuxall Way and a Pete Rose Way along the Ohio River near Great American Ballpark and Paycor Stadium (Paul Brown Stadium)...🙂
Darrel Chaney from beautiful Hammond Indiana .
The game is horrible now
