I would be curious to know if your other followers have found a difference between the two types of air fryers. I've been thinking of up grading the air fryer. Thanks, enjoyed your presentation and now I'm off to the kitchen for a grilled cheese !
Hi Philippe!! you certainly can flip the sandwich halfway through the cooking time to promote a more even cook, it all depends on the air fryer. I haven't tried the oven-type air fryer only the basket kind, and interesting thing to find out for sure. Probably a video on it somewhere here on UA-cam haha. You are very welcome! Glad you are trying it!
My tower is only toasting one side of my toast. I make them open with cheese and tomato and spring onion. Delicious but I’d like both sides toasted. Scots cheddar yummy
Good to see you are using something resembling real cheese. Most U.S YT vids show grilled cheese sandwiches constructed using strange squares of sweaty, shiny, plastic-looking stuff. Two presenters even claimed it was Cheddar! If you buy your cheese in plastic don't be surprised if it tastes like plastic.
Haha thanks! I can't stand American Cheese lol, growing up as a kid I thought that was the only kind of cheese because it was cheap and what my mom bought. It does melt really well so I can see why people like it, but it is terrible cheese.
It depends on the air fryer, in mine, you don't need to. If you have the kind that looks like a little mini oven, then yes, preheat for 2 to 3 minutes first. Although, it will probably be fine without preheating it.
Thanks for the video. However we need to know what is the “function” you chose in the air-fryer to do it . Mike has “grill”, frozen, roast, meat , on and on . Thanks
Mine does not have a different function, it only is an air fryer. It has two knobs one for the temp and one for the time that is it. You will just have to experiment with yours. If you have an "Air Fry" function, use that. Otherwise, try grill, or if you have a function that says toast, that will probably work.
Yeah that should be fine, it will probably burn in the air fryer, but it will still work okay. If you soak the toothpick in water first that will help.
When I hear 'Grilled Cheese Sandwich' I hear 'Cheese on Toast', which I love and eat often. Buttering bread on the wrong side is difficult for me cos it makes the 'Grilled' part nearer to 'Fried' (which I also like now and then). I am having a cultural problem with this but I may give it a try. Maybe.
hahaha yeah definitely will differ depending on where in the world you live. :) But try it like this sometime and see if you like it. The butter on the outside creates and awesome flavor for the bread. This is how we always do it in the States regardless if we use an air fryer or just in a skillet or grill pan on the stovetop. Of course some people use Mayo instead of butter.
@@letz-b-reel810 Honestly, I had never tried it until a few years ago when someone mentioned it on my other Grilled Cheese video. I did try it, definitely still like butter better. I am a butter addict. haha. But Mayo does work pretty well and I can see why people like using it.
Just a curious question: why do you have to put it with the buttered side on top/bottom? I tried with ham and cheese but put the buttered sides on the inside and result was reasonable so maybe your way works better?
Because that is how you get the classic grilled cheese taste it should always be done on the outside of the bread. :) Next time try it this way and see the difference.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt thanks but what will be the set to chose though? Grill?, roast ? Meat ? It is essencial to know which one to chose . I think ou should find out even though your air-fryer doesn’t have settings otherwise how can we try / enjoy your receipt? Many thanks !
hmm what air fryer do you have? I never have that problem and I have used 3 different air fryers. If your air fryer has a fan setting, trying turning the fan down.
Worth I think pointing out that real Cheddar comes from the village of Cheddar in Somerset England. OK it has become known as a process to make cheese and much copied around the world. But real Cheddar is something else and takes your tastebuds to a whole new level. The village is famous for its many caves in the Cheddar Gauge. The caves provide the perfect environment to mature the real Cheddar.
Yes, authentic Cheddar cheese is so yummy. I will sometimes buy imported cheddar, it is more expensive, but so worth it. One of my favorites is Aged Irish Cheddar, so yummy.
@@johnwilletts3984 If they have it where I buy cheese, then I will get it. I may have tried it before, a few times a year for special occasions we have a huge charcuterie board featuring all kinds of different cheeses. My brother is the one that puts it together, so I can't remember all the different kinds he puts. But he does do a few different kinds of cheddar cheese.
Well that would depend on your stovetop. If you have gas, then I would agree, but if your burner is electric, then no, it isn't faster. And the air fryer version tastes a little different, and a good option, if your burner isn't working, or if you live in a small flat without an oven/stovetop, etc.
Did you know that I was subscribed to you before I realized Jared was your brother? 🙈 one day I was like, “mom you have to see this UA-camr he reminds me so much of Jared Taylor!” 😂 love your vids, keep it up!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt he’s our “uncle Jared” my dad and him go way back. Maybe you know him, Carl Dobbins. They were scout leaders together. Oh you definitely know him they run the Grand Canyon together lol
It depends on your air fryer. The kind I have is simple, it is just an air fryer. It has a setting for Temperature and a setting for time and that is it. If you have a combo, then there should be an "air fryer" setting. As well as a time and temp setting.
Thank you!! You must be from the UK? I have only heard the term a few times, since we call it grilled cheese sandwich, which is funny because we rarely cook them on a grill haha. Cheese toastie is a great name for them!
I don't get the butter? If you were to make a regular grilled cheese then that's fine, but one of the reasons to use an air fryer is to avoid fatty foods
no need with that air fryer. You don't always need to preheat anyways, but if you do the food doesn't have to be in the air fryer as long, but only by a few minutes.

Will the butter from the lower slice not drip through the holes into the lower compartment? That would be a waste.
No it doesn't drip. It is only a lightly spread of butter.
Great video THANKS for sharing
Thanks!! You are welcome!
Would it be OK to use a tooth pick to keep the bread together?
Yeah that should be fine, it will probably burn in the air fryer, but it will still work okay. If you soak the toothpick in water first that will help.
Looks delicious. What kind of Tillamook cheese did you use??
Thanks! Standard Tillamook mild cheddar, my favorite. :)
Really late 2 the party but, thanks 4 sharing😋
Never too late! You are welcome :)
Mayo inside, butter outside add bacon and tomatoes. Enjoy ☺️.
That would definitely taste good!
"20 years in the can, I wanted manicotti. I compromised. I ate grilled cheese off the air fryer instead".
haha. Can never go wrong with a grilled cheese! lol
@@inthekitchenwithmattI’m so confused about people using mayo on a grilled cheese sandwich 🤷🏼♀️
I’m an Aussie & use butter (lots of butter) 😋
@@letz-b-reel810 Honestly, I had never tried it until a few years ago when someone mentioned it on my other Grilled Cheese video. I did try it, definitely still like butter better. I am a butter addict. haha. But Mayo does work pretty well and I can see why people like using it.
Can you use whole bread slices instead?
Hi Emma, yes you can use whatever kind of bread that you like.
How do you stop the bread flying off
Just a curious question: why do you have to put it with the buttered side on top/bottom? I tried with ham and cheese but put the buttered sides on the inside and result was reasonable so maybe your way works better?
Because that is how you get the classic grilled cheese taste it should always be done on the outside of the bread. :) Next time try it this way and see the difference.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt I will do that next time, thanks
@@joszandstra2044 You are welcome!
Thank you 😊
You are welcome, Lisa!
That’s my favorite 🤩
Awesome!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Godbless Matt
@@thelmabuenaventura1406 You too!
May I ask you Matt, what is the brand of air fryer you use ?
Hi Wendy, I have a Secura air fryer. This is the exact one I have: amzn.to/3t3j9oB
This saves fuel especially with the crisis imagine how long a cast iron pan takes to heat up 😮
mmmm looks good!
Thank you!!
Why do you prefer butter over mayonnaise?
Because I like the taste of better more than mayo
Interesting. Not used to the butter sides out.
That is the classic way to do grilled cheese here in the States.
Do you use paper liners
No not for these
Is it set on air fry? Because my air fryer has settings for bake. etc.
Use the air fry setting if you have multiple settings. Mine is only an air fryer so it doesn't have different settings.
@@rodrigomarino9616 You select Air Fry if you have that setting.
Kerrygold Irish cheese and Irish butter.
I love Kerrygold brand cheese and butter so good!
nicely done!!
Thank you!
I need quick cooker like that tho
Air fryers are pretty handy
try crunchy peanut butter with the cheese
Interesting
Air fryer, George F, Breville, oven grille, fire…. Evolution of the cheese toastie is Darwinian
haha
Everyone forgets a splash of Lea & Perrins, Worcestershire sauce to you guys in the US yummy
We don't forget it, we just don't use it on grilled cheese. :) And we have the Lea an Perrins brand here as well.
Very nice!!
Thank you!
I gave up. When my sandwich is in the air fryer, it flies all over the place. Not sure how your sandwich stays in tact in the air fryer.
hmm what air fryer do you have? I never have that problem and I have used 3 different air fryers. If your air fryer has a fan setting, trying turning the fan down.
Mine flies around too, lol! It opens and cheese gets all over the drawer. I have the Ninja Foodie Dual Drawer.
@@tracyweber3683 Try using a lower fan setting if you have one.
Anyone ??? I’m new air fryer & I saw those paper inserts online - shouldn’t be using those ? Is it okay to use them or no ??
You can if you want, but it depends on what you are making. If you are making this I wouldn't use them, you want the air to go underneath.
This is nice with some HP sauce on
Yes!
Irish Cheddar? Why not try Cheddar from Cheddar?
@@johnwilletts3984 If they have it where I buy cheese, then I will get it. I may have tried it before, a few times a year for special occasions we have a huge charcuterie board featuring all kinds of different cheeses. My brother is the one that puts it together, so I can't remember all the different kinds he puts. But he does do a few different kinds of cheddar cheese.
Butter tastes better and healthier than mayo. Thanks
I definitely like butter better!
I've used veg oil and olive oil instead of butter with amazing taste results!
Mmmm hmmm, yummy yum
Thank you!!
i have a dream where I make grilled cheese sandwich inside an air fryer.
haha
mmmmmm~~~ with tomatoes😁 & pickles..
Sure!!
good to know, but I mean it's beyond easier and faster in a frying pan still
Well that would depend on your stovetop. If you have gas, then I would agree, but if your burner is electric, then no, it isn't faster. And the air fryer version tastes a little different, and a good option, if your burner isn't working, or if you live in a small flat without an oven/stovetop, etc.
I just Anakin Skywalker 'd mine lmao
haha
Did you know that I was subscribed to you before I realized Jared was your brother? 🙈 one day I was like, “mom you have to see this UA-camr he reminds me so much of Jared Taylor!” 😂 love your vids, keep it up!

@@inthekitchenwithmatt he’s our “uncle Jared” my dad and him go way back. Maybe you know him, Carl Dobbins. They were scout leaders together. Oh you definitely know him they run the Grand Canyon together lol
@@lindseyredding9198 Ahh!! Yes I know Carl! :)
waw best chef
Thanks!
I'm never sure what power or setting to use
It depends on your air fryer. The kind I have is simple, it is just an air fryer. It has a setting for Temperature and a setting for time and that is it. If you have a combo, then there should be an "air fryer" setting. As well as a time and temp setting.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt ok then setting on mine would be air fry seems nothing turns out for me.
@@jeanluby4636 It sounds like you just need a bit more practice using it. Try this exact recipe, it is a very simple air fryer recipe.
Nice
Thank you!
Yummmy
Thank you!
I'm really not trolling but a video how to make a cheese toastie in an air fryer? Looked nice though and presenter comes across as a nice guy
Thank you!! You must be from the UK? I have only heard the term a few times, since we call it grilled cheese sandwich, which is funny because we rarely cook them on a grill haha. Cheese toastie is a great name for them!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt yes from Wales, UK. Did enjoy your video, and have subbed. You come across great!
@@taffymackem2596 Thank you!! And awesome!
I don't get the butter? If you were to make a regular grilled cheese then that's fine, but one of the reasons to use an air fryer is to avoid fatty foods
It is for flavor. You con't have to use butter if you don't want to.
Why didn’t you preheat?
no need with that air fryer. You don't always need to preheat anyways, but if you do the food doesn't have to be in the air fryer as long, but only by a few minutes.
