TAMA Starclassic Walnut/Birch - Sound Test | Markos Vassiliou

- Опубліковано 17 лют 2021
- A really expressive drum set that inspires me to practice more drums! Outfitted with a Yamaha MCA snare, Evans & Remo heads, Zildjian & Zultan cymbals, this is how I like the drums to be tuned. We are still getting to know each other.
It is recommended to listen with good quality headphones/sound system.

How do you like the sound of the drums? Let me know in the comments below which groove you liked the most! Don't forget to subscribe if you still haven't.
finally somebody changed bottom drum heads and front one, ...these drums sing
Now that's how you sound sample a drumkit
It’s not only a beautiful drum set. It sounds very good. I like the sound of the punchy Tom’s .
Thanks for the nice comment! Glad you like it
Great sounding kit. One of the best for live work! Nice precise drumming too!
I own this exact kit configuration in a different color. Unbelievable tone and feel. Professional kit under $1700 U.S. Tama is ALWAYS changing the game for the better.
True that!! Which finish is your kit?
Vintage Marine Pearl
One year later and it's $2k. Gotta love inflation.
took a listen on better headsets and that floor tom is just on the spot
These drums sound killer. Great tuning. For any younger drummers watching at home, THIS is how your drums should sound :). Markos - nice chops, like your feel/groove. nice little thing at 3:42 with the snare/tom ... tasty.
as a player, and retailer of drums "For any younger drummers watching at home, THIS is how your drums should sound :)" I have to say that is one opinion. The are in tune, yes. .. but
Which groove did I like? How about THE WHOLE GODDAMN THING!!!! Markos, I've been on and off playing drums for a little over 40 years. It was nothing shy of a pleasure watching and listening to you beat those skins! The Creator gave you the seed and you definitely nurtured and cared for it and your playing is proof! Great job, Markos!
This is the best demonstration of these drum sounds I’ve watched yet. These sound so good. Love that you played them slow individually then didn’t just beat the hell out of them as fast as you could like everyone else lol good job
I love ur detail of sound check !
It's clear and 👍 thank u
Walnuts have lots of attack. Love the kick sound. I got the 3 piece with a 20x14 kick, the 20 in kick is amazing!
These drums sounds absolutely amazing, the tuning is 👌🏾,great work markos
Your toms sound awesome,! Would you please do a video showing how you tuned them
Kit sounds amazing!!!
Very smooth and funky playing mate!
You got chops bro, killer playing, great feel as well
Love it! Love the mix of Walnut & Birch…❤ kinda want one now.
Sounds good! Love your precise but relaxed playing!!!
Nice play and sound!
Great presentation, great kit, and great drumming! Really enjoyed the video! Keep em coming!
Just perfect
Very Nice. I'm picking up a set of these next week in the same finish.
Kit sounds beautiful, playing is clean and articulate which highlights the kit and it’s capability. Thank you.
Much appreciated! Thank you
Awesome tuning and playing!
Amazing kit and playing king
Beautiful kit and it sounds great!
Heck yeah man, great tasty job! I’ve been a Tama guy since I got drums and i’ll be getting some Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch soon and love your demonstration of these Tama drums! Once again EXCELLENT technique, tastefulness and feel! And snare sounds so great and ringy with no tape or anything on the drum! Keep tearin’ it up and crackin’ that snare!
Very very nice sick chops
You're a fantastic drummer!
Killer sound man!!! Woow.. Bravooo
Go Markos! Nice to see you!
Loving this kit 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏻
tasty playing as well!
Sounds great!
Well tuned.
Greeeeeeat snare drum
Hey Markos - good video firstly. It was good to hear with the reso heads swapped out for better than stock. I have one of these kits but did not swap out the bottom heads (yet). I think the biggest gain in doing so is in the floor tom and bass drum. Thanks for the video.
Good choice of cymbals. I have the Zultan dark energy's and think they sound great.
man sweet flow on the chops ..nice sound also
Really loved the description, this video also inspires me to keep practicing and become better! Thanks!!
I am really glad that I could inspire you to practice more drums :)
@@MarkosVassiliou totally man, sick drumming!!
You ROCK man!
Yes Bro! Love these videos! Keep 'em coming! :D Killing it!
Bro! thanks for the lovely comments, miss drumming with you!
@@MarkosVassiliou Same here bro!
Sounds great bro!! Sound and playing wise of course...Digging all the grooves but you know I have an extra love for (your) funky beats!

Here's an extra funky one for you buddy!

Very nice ! got me more motivated to get back on drums.
Very glad to hear you’re back on the kit!!
Sounds perfect 👌🏼. And you play it really good!
Thank you :) If you like, you can also check out how this Starclassic performs with music here: ua-cam.com/video/stK0LRIlN8g/v-deo.html
Great Sound! Subbed
Dat floor tom tho!!
Solid playing! The mixture of walnut and birch sounds great 👍
Solid playing ? Markos play much better than solid!!
Wow! Nice sound! I really love your groove at 3:50 with the hi-hat and the toms. Can you explain this one in one of your futur vids?
Basse drum 😎👍
Sounds soo good. Wanna get a starclassic wb one day in hyperdrive sizes. Wouldn’t trade my Tama starclassic bb hyperdrives for anything else.
Thanks! Yeah man Starclassic are superb drums!
ωραίος φίλε!!
Great man!
Thanks Antonio
Drums sound great. I have the 3 shell pack of this kit. I also did a quick video for them. Your drums sound better. Good video.
It’s like Javale McGee and step curry had a baby lol. Paradiddddle
I have that high pitched ring on my floor Tom as well. Same kit. I think it’s the die cast hoop resonating. When I mount an LP claw on the hoop, it sounds better.
Thanks for the tip :) will give it a shot!
Yes! 👍
Would be nice to explain how you tune drums!
Fucking dope player man… killer stuff

Sounds awesome! I’m curious if you spent any time considering getting a starclassic maple kit instead? Did you do any comparisons? If so, I’d be curious what you thought about how the two lines compare..
Thank you for providing us with this!
Did you have a chance to play a starclassic maple? Is there a significant difference in sound/build quality between these two series?
My pleasure.
The last time I played a Starclassic maple was somewhere around 2008 I believe. I haven't tried the new SC maple one unfortunately, but I know that the hardware and build quality is the same as the W/B. The W/B kit reminds me of maple a little bit, it is warmer than an only birch kit, thanks to the walnut plies. It is somehow an all rounded drums which has the best of both worlds, the sharp attack of birch & warm tones of maple.
I can compare to my 90s Pearl MMX maple kit, I would say it is just a bit warmer than the W/B. The new SC Performer series hardware have been downgraded for a more affordable kit I believe.
I hope this was helpful.
@@MarkosVassiliou thank you so much for your answer! You're the man!
Also, if someone is reading this and can offer some information, please do, thanks! 😎
Nice sound! Have you used any tuners? I can't tune mine by ear Starclassic Birch/Bubinga kit :(
Nope, did it by ear. Though I have realised that this kit is very hard to tune. I can tune my Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute in less than half the time I need to tune this one!
Thanks I got it. My drums have a good sound, but not the way I want.@@MarkosVassiliou
If you are close by, this might be interesting to you. I offer twice a year in person drum tuning workshops for small groups in Berlin: markosvassiliou.com/drums-tuning-workshop/
The next one is October 7th.
Great work! How much did changing the tom reso heads change their tone? My 1yr old Starclassic b/b set still has the cheap original heads on, thinking about changing for US made stuff. Cheers!
Thanks. The reso heads did make a change in the quality of the overall tone of the toms. The stock heads sounded out of control, were also much harder to tune, and resonated too much highs. They did't respond well. The new reso heads controlled the sound more, warmed up the toms up and just resonated as much as they have to in my opinion. I don't mean that the stock heads are bad, they are just OK. For a better sound, I suggest you change your reso heads to any 1 ply clear head. LMK if you change them, and if you feel there is a difference or not.
@@MarkosVassiliou Cool. I'm going to put on some clear Ambassadors, just not in a hurry - because the set sounds quite nice as is. Thanks!
Greetings! The drums sound great. My nephew has a Tama SC B&B SD 14 / 5.5 TT12 / 8 FT 16 BD 24. On TT 12 is batter heads evans g2 clear and reso is G1 clear. I don't know how I would tune the drums to have a sustain like yours I really like the sound. If you can help me on what frequencies to tune the drum heads. Thanks in advance and greetings from Croatia!
Sure! Check this out, I offer drum tuning workshops, maybe you'd be in town during that time?

The only thing that's missing for me is the 22"x18" kick. I feel like it loses some dimension. Don't get me wrong the whole kit sounds amazing. I just wish there was a way to order the kit with a 22"x18". I'm stuck on whether to stick with Tama or move over to a different manufacturer. It is a lot of money to spend only to have to buy my ideal kick after the fact and be stuck trying to sell the 22"x16". That money would otherwise go on a snare.
You're right. Now Tama offer us 2 inch less bass drum for more money. That's call business. My B/B is 22x18 and I'm so happy for that.
@@ivanbajovic3476 it does make all the difference. Its surprising how much 2" of shell can make the sound so much bigger.
@@ChrisJS1987 Yes, and more powerful.
Finish Sapphire fade satin?
Was this kit made in China, Taiwan or Japan? Thanks.
Sapphire fade satin?
Amazing. No muffling/dampening in the kick at all?
Thanks 🙂. Just a small blanket touching both heads. You can see it better in this video: ua-cam.com/video/oawUlcYZBwE/v-deo.html
🧡:-)
Nice, I wish Tama would make the color from reso to batter the same on all the drums when doing these fades. Not sure why they always make the bass drum different from the other drums on the kit. Just looks weird.
Agreed! But still, really cool finish
I might be old fashioned, but give me the sound of vintage, anytime…
A lot todays drums sound the same…maybe it’s the tuning..
Does anyone hear a lot of sustain in the floor Tom
I hear it’s walnut that makes the lowest sound wise is this true ?
Yes
I love my tama drums. Im Joshua Drummer. I'm 10 years old from new zealand. I have a channel on here aswell Joshua Drummer nz
is that a casio from 30-35 years ago? :D how the hell did u find that watch :D
Thats a Casio F-91W. It's the exact same model and is still in production and sells at around 15 bucks!! It's my third one btw, I always break or lose them. I appreciate your comment man!! Cheers
what interface you use bro

These drums sounds so good man ‼️‼️‼️ the kick especially
Nice Marcos ! Hope to see you soon at a wednesday. Greetings. Subscription is out =) (Noahs Dad).
Super!! Try 12" and 16" make better ;)
Μαρκο τι λεει η κασα χρειαζομαστε καμια 22x18?
αυτό στο βίντεο είναι 22x16
You can play
Brasilero ? Kkk tem acento
Lots of attack but limited sustain. Reminds me of the sound that was very popular during the 1970's.
That high TOM needs a gel.
The toms need great batter heads. I run Evans EC2's on mine, but Evans G2s are the other best choice imo.
Audix are not good for test
nothing special for the sound.
Because you probably like vintage sounding drums.
