I love the way you shine your rocks and the variety is always beautiful 😊

Thank you. I try to do a good job. Some materials (like Obsidian) are more challenging than others.

Absolutely fantastic Obsidian specimens! Cool tip with the sharpie!

Thank you. I try to be fairly selective about them when collecting it.

Dang, you just broke that rock in half with your bare hands! Haha. Thanks for showing off your process.

Yep. It had a big crack in it though. I just helped it along. Actually I was lucky it didn't slice me up since it's natural glass.

Love the selection sir, thanks for sharing! Arrghhh~~~ hahaha That's what I was saying last night that drives me NUTS about that material. You can work diligently and do a great job but ZING...there's marks...you go back do it again and sometimes clean up the one mark only to make another.....Ugh~ It just frustrates me and since it's a hobby for me i'm personally more looking for more relaxation and less frustration. I do appreciate the effort and diligence it takes to make a quality piece though and am happy to give kudos in those instances! Thx again, have a nice rest of the week!

I agree, it can be frustrating. When cutting a cab, I always get a good cut, so why not on a flat??? I'm going to clean up those pieces that have scratches and see how long it takes. Wish me luck.

Love the trick with the marker. Those are really nice pieces of obsidian. Nice polish on the pieces. I have the same problems with obsidian. Looks good in the lower stages but when I get to the higher stages the scratches start appearing. Your Haunted Ridge pieces look good together.

Thank you. I'm going to rework those that have the scratches as those are not acceptable to me. I keep meaning to make some wooden bases for the Haunted Ridge plates I got from you. One of these days...

When you are getting close to the end to the grit cycle, ease up the pressure for about 30 seconds to another minute of run time. That may aid in reducing those deeper scratches. The problem is with those silicon carbide discs that's made for floor sanders do not have consistent sized grit on them. That is part of the problem as well. You may need to go out and find higher quality discs that are more consistent with the particle size on the surface. Overall, you are doing quite well. Don't be beating yourself up. Those Richardson Rock ranch high-speed Sanders are not very forgiving. And I think you're doing a very good job with them.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas. I'm going to clean up those pieces that have scratches, so I'll give that a try. Although I'm not going to film that process as I don't want to "beat a dead horse" so to speak.

I have used something similar to legitimately sharpen an obsidian blade, rather than knapping.

I had no idea that could be done. Thanks for the idea.
