    Diego Pato is dangerous and hunts submissions. WNO was a stacked card. It had Jacob Couch, Mica Galvao, Kenta Iwamoto, Oliver Taza, Tainan Dalpra, Nicky Rod, and Victor Hugo. However, the talk of the town after the event was Diego Pato's outside heel hook over Dante Leon. In this video, we dive into the finish and what we can learn from it to make us a dangerous leg locker.

    I bought the database, and it's sooo helpful, but I was discouraged by the lack of videos attached so I canceled. I'd buy the product again if there were videoes attached to like 70% or more of the techniques.

    Saying that it's better to attack the heel hook rather than the knee bar bc there's more HH finishes is ignoring the fact that when you attack the knee bar you can transfer to the HH when they defend. Kinda funny considering you mentioned tha

      It's funny you bring this up. I was initially planning to do a section on it in the video but decided to condense it down to what you saw (I just thought the video was getting too long.) My basic thought is that there is an argument to be made that you can layer attacks by entering with a scoop grip (arm bar to triangle to omoplata type deal.) However, I think by the time you transfer from the knee bar to the heel hook the defender is already hiding their heel or freeing their knee entirely. So it is fine to take the layered attack approach, but just be ready for a follow up battle to expose the heel (Jacob Couch did a good job of doing this.) Personally, I think it is scarier to enter with an overclasp grip. Basically doubling down on a heel hook but you get immediate access to the heel. My current opinion is the immediate heel exposure of the overclasp grip outweighs the benefit of layering in the knee bar by taking a scoop grip.

      @@LIMIBJJ But don't forget that the best kneebars are lat knee bars, reference Craig's kneebar dvd or his false reap one where he talks about the Pato kneebar. This set up is a knee bar with an overclasp grip and granted your hips are high and in the right spot, you force your opponent to back step right into cross ashi and you catch the heel on the way through, no grip changing necessary. Very specific scenario I get that but been having huge success with it to get the kneebar or force the back step catching the heel on the way. Love your work!

    scoops in outside are super dangerous for the guy playing outside. The counters are really really strong. Scooped outside is the equivalent of saddle on a knowledgeable person.

    I have to say something about your inductive reasoning regarding ishh, oshh and knee bar. You say the data tells us which to prioritize based on finishes of the 3. This isn't quite right as there can be mediating factors. Easiest one to think of is stance v position match up quite possibly opens some avenues up much more than others. You'd have to normalize by attempts at each and that's where it can be very hard to interpret what counts as an attempt.

    • @LIMIBJJ
      @LIMIBJJ  4 місяці тому +1

      For sure. If I had a choice I would go overclasp but scoops are more available

      @LIMIBJJ I was just talking about your statistical analysis. You can't see what's effective or not, only what is happening. Without more granular data it's really hard to make claims about efficacy of technique. Especially in a sport where dilemmas and trilemas are so frequent. Still love the video. Thank you for all the work that you do

    Little to simple with the statistics. How many attmepts are there for inside heel hook vs outside heel hook. Maybe the percentage of getting outside heel hook is higher and peoole just dont try it as much because its not popular. You just might have a larger sample size of inside heel hooks making it look like its easier to get on people. How many attempts, what postion the attempts were the attempts taken in, did the person who attempted them usually try heel hooks in general mote maybe people who dont take as many attempts with heel hooks got outside heel hook more which could maybe mean its a higher percentage move in general. To simple of analysis
