5 Reasons to Ditch Denim in 2020 (With Alternatives)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- Everybody loves jeans right? Maybe it's time to break away and try some other stuff.
Alternatives to consider:
'Jean-like' pants with similar construction but a different material (e.g. the Outlier Strong Dungarees)
Variations on denim construction e.g. Veilance SS20 denim, Enfin Leve coated denim
Versatile technical pants e.g. non-cargo options from outdoor tech brands
Articulated cargo pants
Hotpants. Oooh yeah.

I wear only chainmail
Knightcore boutta be this year's big trend
Breathable, protective, one color, not common. Seems perfect for twchwear lol.
Sigmas like me wear bell bottom
I don't think he's telling people what to wear. I think he's just reminding people there are alternatives. I've recently tried an alternative to jeans. I'm happy that I found something different and super comfortable. Just about everybody wears jeans. It's nice not to always be like everyone else.
what did you find?
@@RizetoPower I am a plus size. Black curvy classic trousers from Only Carmakoma.
I also have jeans that I like (Ciso and Zizzi) but the classic trousers are good for work and just when you want to put a little step into your pep. I am not a teenager anymore and need to have something for different occasions.
@@aetl100 you're right, we need more variety the older we get.
Jeans nowadays are comfy as hell, all these stretch jeans feel like my favorite joggers, also stretch chinos
You really hit a good point with this video.
Most people do not even know about the downsides of jeans and upsides of all the other products out there.
They go into a store, see only jeans -> buy only jeans.
Trying to ditch them currently but wear them when it's casual time.
As someone who works in a premium denim store, I do have to say that jeans and material performance can go together. Hyperflex+ is a fabric made of horizontal and vertical elastane weaved through denim fibers which gives the wearer ultimate comfort and flexibility. Basically feels like wearing very lightweight sweatpants. Sorbtek is a Catch-Move-Release technology with a water-resistant coating and fibers that provide breathability by catching moisture from the inside and vaporizing it. Things like comfort panels, elastane areas and curved fibres also exist (particularly in the butt, thigh and knee area), to provide the wearer with more comfort and flexibility when jumping, sitting and crouching. Whilst denim jeans definitely has its pros and cons, jeans with material performance are definitely out there.
Antwon will have to cover tech Jeans in his channel now, because of you
Japanese denim is something you can never really ditch , brands like Samurai , PBJ and studio d'artisan make some truly beautiful pieces of clothing . Why not rock a few different styles it doesn't always have to be tech but some people are like that.
Hey Antwon, Uniqlo just released "Tech jeans". It's 100% synthetic where vertical threads are nylon and horizontal are polyester and they have 2% elastane. When I felt this jeans compared to cotton ones, it was very hard for me to tell the difference. Definitely something for you to check out.
Im all into black cargo pants these days and for the rare occasions you can't pull out the tech ninja overlord style I still own 2 pairs of jeans. Keeping it balanced as all things should be. I know I'm like 8 months late but still great vid bud.
The first point "1. Denim is everywhere" hit home for me about 10 years ago and haven't owned any jeans since then. Nylon were the MOST natural transition, as you said and now I have been blown away how much stuff I can carry with cargos for the past year. I am definitely missing a nice Enfin-Leve-Aldatze-pants-alternative in my life currently 👖
It rained today, literally so done with demin. Then I found this. Thank you
Welcome to the future 🌌
I’ve hated denim for my entire life glad someone is finally keeping it real
unbased
Only went back to denim last year after having ditched them for 3 ish years, a light wash never goes wrong with a simple outfit imo
reason 6: kidz bop
a point I would have made in this video is no denim makes laundry less of a hassle because with denim sometimes everything in the dryer is ready but the still-wet denim and you have to do your jeans again
Good jeans will always be worth buying. Anyone who doesn't think so doesn't know hard work. Construction, Masonry, electric, plumbing, road construction, every hard working man will always wear jeans.
This is the reason I've wanted to buy Lululemon Tech Canvas. It's made with cotton, but the treatment is pretty technical.
i feel this 100%. last week i was at the mall taking a look at the sales, and when it came to pants, each store had the same exact thing. slim fit jeans in a couple of different colors, some skinny jeans, some slim fit chinos and thats it. no wider leg options, no other materials other than maybe joggers, every store was just dominated by denim.
I like my pants comfy and lightweight, so denim is a no-go for me
Cut them into shorts for an easy 50% weight reduction
Nowadays skinny jeans feel like leggings so are comfy and lightweight
Funny thing... the reason I started watching this channel is because I was looking for alternatives to wearing jeans all the time and wanted some kind of cargo pants that weren't frumpy looking...I wear a denim patch vest to concerts and all but it still feels weird pairing it with denim pants as well. I have a couple of techwear garments but didn't know techwear was a thing...I just like durability, storage, and asymmetry (plus i'm colorblind so wearing all black/white/grey is the only way i'm getting into fashion) Little did I know that Antwon would make a video specifically for me soon afterwards....
jeans are terrible in the summer heat. i prefer nylon spandex golf pants for every day, cargo pants for hiking, and chinos for dressy casual. I only wear jeans in cold temps (rarely).
Hi, just watched your videos, love it. Just curious, have u ever tried the Levi's Commuter series? It's been discontinued but it was quite technical. DWR coating, reflective tape at the ankles when folded, a hidden zip and a bike lock at the back are some of the features that could be found on the jeans.
I liked how you didn't shit all over jeans!
It would be very interesting if you managed to get a hold of and do a review of guerilla group denim pants, as the only thing they have in common with jeans is the denim itself
Good point! Another brand using denim in an interesting way (plus guerrilla group are p cool anyways)
This Is Antwon I unfortunately do not know about a brand using dyneema motorcycle denim, but this is for technical denim examples worth a look. Thought about making some pants for my father out of this since his aramide pair of motorcycle jeans got ripped after good years of use
Got excited whenever Antwon has a new video but this one seems a bit useless. What is the point of convincing techwear enthusiasts to ditch denim?
Videos like this one are a good way to draw in new viewers, which may be inclined to watch more of ant's stuff after watching this one. This brings the possibility of getting more people into techwear and making the techwear community larger/richer :)
Neebs pretty much nailed it - I like making content from all angles whether that be dedicated to the real enthusiasts (e.g. last week's jacket review) or for the benefit of more casual fans or newcomers. And although I didn't discuss it much I think the idea of techwear brands using denim-like fabrics is an interesting discussion point for the tech veterans
I used to wear jeans and shorts all the time. I gave Chinos a try and found they where more breathable and cool so I have made the switch, now I pretty much save the jeans for winter or cooler weather
as someone who grew up wearing dickies trousers, and got denim jeans as a young adult-- made me feel alot better about my build, as i finally could find pants to better fit my new slimmed adult build.
I definitely find it to be the 'default' choice of bottoms. great for street fashion like you mentioned, but not really suitable for outfits where sweats, trousers, or tech/athletic/outdoor pants would better fit (speaking function and fashion).
Denim is too thick, without enough insulation, if you ask me.
A classic, but im not missing denim on a cold day when wearing thinner twill trousers.
Denim jackets saves me in summer from the sun and dry heat of this city.
Denim is not the problem. Using denim always and killing your creativity is the problem.
I'm a quality enthusiast with things that are said to change with wear, I.e denim, or leather. But I also like experimenting with my look and being able to branch out. That being said, I got my first pair of raw denim this past August and I plan to wear them for exactly a year before I soak them for the shrink-to-fit look and the fades to appear. But let me tell you, I really miss wearing other pants, I have a navy blue pair of bdu cargos that I used to wear more, and I really miss wearing sweatpants.
What about buying techwear suit for wedding
Denim is timeless.
I hike in jeans even though I own joggers and what not. Jeans are comfy and Hella durable I love it
Great video on the JQ (jeans question)!
Absolutely LOVE denim. And I 'personalized' every pair I own.
Love jeans. Mavi, Buffalo, Guess, Levis, Point Zero,Blackbull, etc
I had 2 light pairs and got rid of one since I thought that one fit me better. Now I just have one. Maybe will get a dark indigo but that's it. Everything else is chinos or cargos
I like trousers and lounge pants, but I have 3 pairs of jeans, 3 cargos and more to come in the future. As long as it fits my style I consider multiple options for the time and place
Have you looked at what G-star does with Jeans?
Raw denim in general.
My 90’s aesthetics restricts me to light denim and joggings.
My fanny pack makes their pockets useless so cargo are not a necessities for me.
But I get where you’re going. And I agree in fact.
But my straight cut denim with it’s light wash, and aggressive cuffs means (i think/hope) that this video was not aimed at me.
I also have some chinos so I already owns alternatives but man, my denim is just so good.
You could try a waxed cotton denim with panel detailing for a more technical/futuristic look
Could people really ditch denim? Of course. Will I? Nope.
Veilance now has a jean shirt and a pair of jeans optimised for performance, it would be interesting if you reviewed them. Love your content!
Exacly you’re meant to tell me how to dress
Yo thats crazy
Yo thats craaaaaaaaazy dawg
got a rotation of only 3 bottoms atm; nice quality made denim from a german company (tigha),pair of nike techfleece joggers and a regular 20£ nike jogger.
So yeah I‘m currently on the look for a well needed 4. option and found some denim pairs on grailed/goat which i quite liked, but after watching this my urge to buy a cargo or the jean+ you mentioned drastically increased, any options you like? (over 150£ only if they‘re really nice)
I'm not sure what you mean by jeans not being breathable, compared to anything gore-tex they're golden. Not waterproof, but a lot more comfortable.
They're more breathable than Gore-Tex for sure, but I wouldn't want pants made of GTX either unless I really needed them (e.g. for snowsports use)
I love tech wear but I still love denim only Nudies and Nakes & famous. I picked up 5 pairs and 2 jean jacket, I'll be getting a few more just for going out they are all raw denim. In the next few months I'll be picking up some tech cargo pants.
need a 'skating in techwear' video
Step one: Don't buy Adidas Skateboarding
Step two: TECC PROTECTORS MADE FROM THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION
outlier dungarees are awesome. last a lifetime.
denim joggers
jeggings
denim crocks
cutoffs
jean waders
ALL JEAN EVERYTHING
Ditched denim since quite some times, I only wear dryskin schoeller nowadays and I can't go back
I am so glad I ditched all jeans already in 2018
Schoeller gang
Never ditch denim except for rambling. They're damn dangerous when it gets wet ant cold
I live in swamp ass Florida, anyone have any recommendations for pants that do well in hot and humid weather?
PullOutKing wool linen blends.
99%is has some amazing pants.
I’m an avid petit new standard wearer. Especially ones with a little elastane.
I have some raw selvedge denim, but I don’t think they’re comfortable enough for daily office wear.
Recently I bought the Veilance Align MX . I wore that bad boy to the office, thinking I had hacked the social system.
Unfortunately, got multiple comments why the hell I had the nerve to wear sportswear. Sometimes you just have to stick with the classics.
The petit new standard looks great on a lot of people so good choice for sure. I actually wanted to buy some in my pre-techwear days but they were too tight on my thicc thighs. Ignore the normies who don't understand Veilance life 😤
Ok, I get the versatility and functionality argument. I have to say that to me sustainability and longevity are more important than breathability or weight (in fact I dislike pants that are too lightweight). So chinos or good wool pants might be an alternative, but artificial materials like nylon: you can't recycle them right? And they lack the natural features of cotton or wool (keeping the form and fit over years and years, antibacterial abilities - making them stay fresh for longer, ergo less washes needed so less waste of water)
is it Levi's or Levi's?
or is it Leve's?
it's pronounced lay vees
Leave Eyes
Leaeevviieesss
It would be cool to have other types of pants that have the ability to fade like Raw Denim.
Stotz is a cotton-based technical fabric which does break in and fade to an extent over time. Acronym, Enfin Leve and a few other brands use it
Can you makea Video on non Cargo techwear pants?
Thoughts on Särmä tactical jeans?
Don't wear denim. Denim never felt or looked right on me.
G star raw Citi shield Jeans?
Tiny little shorts all summer until they make 'em tecc
tecc shorts are out there! Some more edgy options from Guerrilla Group but I've got a great pair of Outlier ones too
@@ThisIsAntwon yeah, I saw the summer tech video(s) and I'm all for cargos, or wide and drape-y fits, bit I absolutely can't stand the sight of my bare legs in wide/knee-length shorts. So that has me thinking: USMC silkies are military-related so I reckon I could at least tick the warcore and #techwear boxes with those 🤔🤔🤔
@@ThisIsAntwon Looking at the shorts video again, the GG shorts *do* look a lot nicer than the cargo shorts I sometimes see myself wearing in my nightmares (and family photo albums), would you mind telling me what size you're wearing? Medium or small? GG's sizing is kinda weird and their own pics/models are no help whatsoever because they go wayy oversized for all bottoms regardless if they even can stacc or not.
Acne corduroy is also a great choise.
I wore jeans maybe twice in 2019 lol
1. Jeans are WW1 era technology and tailors haven't evolved it since. The fabric is still good but needs change in density or treatment of the material to become outdoors efficient. It needs smarter tailors too. 🤭🤭🤭
2.Please do interviews with haughty Arc'teryx's tailors and designers. My question: We know they are the most outstanding pioneers in tech wear, but why to leave their jackets designs unevolved until today?????
some uniqlo pants are decent, not really that technical unfortunately
Did your light break?
Thankfully not but I could do with a new one anyway tbh
I haven't worn denim since 2014. I can't relate.
kuhl pants are the shit too bruv
Denim is damp, moisture trapping, long drying, not stretchy useless material
can anyone name the cargo pants Antwon's got on at 10:33?
They're the Guerrilla Group PL02 cargos from last year! There's a video on them if you scroll back through the channel a bit
Everyone should dump generic clothing: jordans, jeans, Hally hansen (why would anyone wear this low quality brand lol), supreme and yeezys.

nym5qu17 you? Answer back if you are
Ok I admit it a pair of jeans bullied me as a child
If only I wasn't poor
I agree. Jeans are almost traditionalist or a conservative symbol now. I pity the fool who still think they are something to strive for. Also they’re not good for the environment.
Very good extra point - using indigo to dye products uses a huge amount of water and there are far more efficient methods available
Yes I agree, denim sucks!
