  • The Hoover Channel will have clips of meetings we recorded that impacted the news in the City of Hoover.
This week we feature a clip dating back to 9/5/24 regarding City Ordinance 7013-23 - A Resolution Amending the Budget for the Fiscal Year Ending September 30, 2023.
The ordinance deals with the purchase of several Public Safety vehicles, both for the Hoover PD and the Hoover FD. After City Attorney Phillip Corley reads the ordinance, Councilor Curt Posey makes a motion to Continue to the Call of the Chair (postpone the vote until a later date, to be determined by the Chair, Council President John Lyda). It should be noted that Councilor Derrick Murphy left the meeting early, so only six Council members are present.
Councilor Dr. Casey Middlebrooks opens the discussion advising that the vehicles are important to both the PD and the FD. Prior to his retirement, former City Administrator Allan Rice had proposed to veer from the normal purchase channels of public safety vehicles by speaking to Enterprise, instead of to the manufacturer. During the discussion, Enterprise comes up.
Both Hoover PD Chief Nick Derzis and Hoover FD Chief Clay Bentley speak during discussions.
In order for the vote to continue to pass, it must receive at least 4 votes. A tie means it fails.
The exchange and quotes by all parties is interesting viewing.
