    Your reviews are amazing! I always wonder about ons brand, although I never tried their shoes, I thought their shoes stand out from the crowd. I noticed that they started giving up on the holes and start putting in more foam. I also so some weird "prototype" Im not sure, but It looked like It had no holes at all. But it seems like ons most memorial day was when in boston marathon, the first in the womens field won with the cloud echo 3. I think ons can be better if they:
    1. reduce price tag
    2. take down weight
    3. put more stack
    4. give up on holes
    5. increase durability
    but overall I think it fits in the "unique" category.
    Great review!

      Thank you very much 👍 the prototype you saw with no holes might of been the shoe used in triathlons… there’s no stack height limit there and their prototype ones are used in Ironmans, someone ran the fastest ever marathon in an Ironman I believe in them… 2:30:something!

    Sounds like ON is finally "almost" have a tier 1 racing shoe which gets closer to that value out of the shoe for the cost. Outsole needs work which is a reoccurring theme from various reviewers. I don't think most people have a problem with their racing shoe having a limited shelf life as a "racer". But the shoe still has to have some life in it afterwards for quality training sessions. If ON can't do this, they will continue to be a fringe tier 1 shoe mostly worn by sponsored atheletes. They are obviously doing some great things in their more daily trainer offerings and life style shoes...I see enough of them around on people's feet.
    Solid review as always Mr. Raynor

      Yeah I did a long run today and recorded a short video for the new extra channel, I mentioned the grip there 👍 I kind of feel that they’re breaking into the market more now, slowly but surely and it’s good to see, the evolution from v1 to this one is crazy, they’ve come a long way

    Good you got to try this one. Would you say it fits narrower than the Vaporfly 3? It doesn’t look overly narrow on you. This and the Endorphin Elite are tough as to try both looking at well over £500 and then seemingly you just have very expensive super trainers. I did a session in my Adios Pro 3 last night. I think I weighed mine around 285g in our size so actually this On one might be very similar but that’s 30g more to lug round than a Vaporfly and more expensive at that. I quite like the Adios Pro 3 but never feels as snappy to me as a Vaporfly and heavier as you say. Maybe need to try a race in the Sen 9. On the 100 mile thing TBH I could not imagine racing 4 marathons in the same shoe. Have used different VF1 for my 3 marathons since super shoes come out. But if I did a race a marathon in a new to me shoe I would probably would want to get at least 100 miles in training and tune up races to feel confident. Indeed that happened in the VF1. Be interesting then to see if it starts to degrade as you put more miles in it. Shoes rarely suddenly go from hero to zero as it were. As such what do they really mean there. 100 miles and you bin or 100 miles and it is not quite A1. If latter in all honesty that tends to happen with every shoe to some extent even if also mentally.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Рік тому

      I’d say it fits like the vaporfly v1… the v3 I find I have a tiny bit more room in the toe box so it’s got that nice snug fit 👍
      Interesting on the adios pro 3 weight, I’ll double check mine later as my records say they’re heavier, so I’ll check if I’ve got that wrong!

    Great review, Andy. I think an expectation of only 100 miles from any shoe is ridiculous, both from a $$ value and from a cost of resources given the short lifespan of the shoes. These shoes look pretty sick though, gotta give it to On for the style. 👍

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Рік тому +3

      Yeah I can understand peoples thoughts on lifespan there 👍 I will say though that I don’t think they’ll become unusable, I think they’ll just be moved to a training shoe… I gather it’s just when the foam loses its “peak performance” but I would think they’d be fine for many miles after in training

    Great, honest review Andy. Used to love the On brand a few years back, Cloudsurfers and Cloudflows in particular but the soles were hard underfoot compared to other brands. Still they are a quality brand and seem to be making a bit of a comeback. £260 for the Echo 3s though!!😮😮😮

    You are absolutely right about the On foam it is definitely similar with the Lightstrike Pro and I believe that this one is a very nice companion for the Takumi Sen 9.
    What I love about the Cloudboom echo 3 is the fact that it seems lower to the ground compared with Adizero adios pro 3.
    I don't now why most people that review this shoes said a lot of unpleasant things about it.
    What are your thoughts about the outsole compared to Sen9.

    Thanks Andy. I think the holes in the mid sole of ON trainers was a marketing USP to get a new brand noticed in a tough market place. The holes are getting less significant now they have a presence and now they are trying to compete with the other brands on performance.
    I'm not sure 15g makes a difference to the weight of a trainer, even at sub-elite level.

      @@fergusdenoon1255 at the end of the day, it is a personal choice, everybody has to make for themselves. My choices are different. I calculate around 20 cent per mile on average for my shoes, and i got great shoes to run in. That said being also a UK 13 like Andy I do feel many heavy for us shoes are lighter than our Vaporflys in say a size 8. This is what I told my myself when a club mate with a shorter frame than me beat me in a recent 10 mile in a pair of Peg 39s. also didn’t Spencer Brown Athlete Special run about a 4:20 mile in Crocs and think have heard of sub 70 HMs in them as well.
