  • Playing along to "Home At Last" by Steely Dan. Bernard Purdie's sublime half-time shuffle is a tough one to make sit just right, and here's my meager attempt at it. The Mr Muff Muffins on the drums give that instant 70s sound.
I'd be grateful if you checked out my original music channel ‪@CarpPine‬!

@@eeliniemela7501 Joo, Rohema Mr Muff Muffins. Semmonen ohut puuvillakangas ja huopareunus. Kunnon ”töks”-äänet saa näillä!

Need to work on my right hand technique for the hi hat shuffle on this. It doesn't come naturally

That takes some work and time for sure! I'm still struggling a bit with the B section's offbeat hihat openings, where I tend to play the offbeats a bit too loud.

What kind of drumheads are you using? Regarding your playing, you picked a deceptively hard tune because the Purdy shuffle is a tricky thing to execute with the feel. That's why he's Bernard Purdy. Keep it up though. You sound good.

Thanks! This is a tricky tune, especially the B section's offbeat hihat openings. I used to play the drums professionally for a good while, but there's always things to learn and improve.
Ambassador Coated + Ambassador Hazy on the snare, Evans G2 Clear + Evans G1 Clear on the toms, and Remo PowerStroke 3 on both sides of the kick. The dead 70s sound is mainly achieved by the Mr Muff Muffins which dampen the sound quite severly.
