Thank you for this very interesting validation. I have both lenses but I don’t have the quantified data that you have, but I have been used both lenses and had similar impressions along the lines of your validation results.😊
Hi! Thank you very much for watching. I'm currently conducting careful absolute sharpness tests with these lenses to see if one lens is sharper than the other in absolute terms, and the results are surprising. I'll very soon post that video. Kind regards!
@@tom_photo Yes, these two zoom lenses are very sharp. They don't have the thick projection of prime or high-end zoom lenses, but they are great kit lenses.🙂
Very happy after watching this great review and comparison. @@david777ism Hi! Thank you very much for watching. Yes, these lenses are very nice and the Nikon dSLRs are a very good way to engage in photography. Best of luck to you with your photography!
BIG THUMBS UP for this video! I'm biased toward the AF-P DX VR lens (maybe because that's the one I have :) and I think it's a great walk-around lens and it's the little brother of my DX 55-200mm kit lens" Thanks for sharing the differences......HG from Chicago
For my first Nikon lens, I selected a minty AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR. A bit of motor noise will make no difference for my purposes, which do not include video.
Hi, thanks for the great video. I'm a bit confused as I am trying to figure out what to do with my camera. I found at my parents home an old Nikon D60 camera with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens. I have started an online photography course but I think the camera is very old as I can't even see on the LCD screen a live view of what the lens sees. I was thinking of try and sell the camera but then thought maybe I should keep the lens? would it be even compatible with a new Nikon camera? Is it worth anything? Any bit of info from an expert would help a lot. thanks!!
Hi! Thank you for asking. The camera you found is a very nice but, indeed, an old camera. It doesn't have live view as you pointed out and no video mode. Live view is not always so critical since people typically use the viewfinder to compose rather than look at the screen (as people do with their phones). The camera is capable of nice photos but it offers quite limited menu options. If you decide to sell it, I'd say it will be difficult to sell without the lens. The body is a bit too old for someone to buy it as a spare body for their lenses. The lens is nice but keeping it for your next Nikon camera is not giving you too much benefit since you'll probably buy an entire kit with a similar lens (or something more modern). The prices are not high for a D60 kit. I've seen them sold for 50 EUR/USD. The body alone is probably difficult to sell for any price and the market is quite flooded with these lenses, too. However that doesn't mean that you should not try. The camera and the lens are fully usable and some people might enjoy the simplicity. Best of luck to you with your photography!
Hi! Thank you for asking. The AF-P DX 18-55 VR will work in DX mode (with a crop) with D810. You cannot take full advantage of the full frame sensor. I'm not certain if autofocus will work without any hickups. I think it will but I'm not 100% sure. The lens should work perfectly with the D3200. However please make sure the camera firmware is up to date to support AF-P lenses. Best of luck to you!
I already have the 35mm f1.8 which I absolutely love and it stays on my D7100 most of the time. I also have the kit 18-105 which I haven’t used since buying the 35. For ‘planned’ landscape shots I have a sigma 10-20mm and I’m happy with it… it’s just a bit big and heavy to carry around ‘just in case’. I’m interested in the 18-55 because in tight spaces the 35 leaves me wishing I could go JUST about wider. And also JUST a bit closer. The streets of Fira and Oia in Santorini are a perfect example. So my question is this… is the 18-55 AFS ‘better’ (sharper. Focussing speed and accuracy etc) than the 18-105 I already own? I see a HUGE difference in quality between the 18-105 and the 35mm fixed, which is why the kit lens never gets used. Is the 18-55 just the same thing but smaller? (And obviously 55 vs 105). To phrase the question another way… if I was to only use my 105 lens up to 55mm, would I notice any difference (other than size and weight)? Thanks!!!
Hi! Thank you for asking. This is a good question. The telephoto end of the 18-105 lens is not perfect but the wide angle end is OK. I'd say that if you stay below 45 or 50 mm then both lenses are quite good and there is no major difference between them. The 18-55 lens might have some edge there and would be my choice. The last 25-30 per cent of the range of most zoom lenses is usually no good and is better avoided. Kind regards!
Exellent video! Based on your videos I bought a D3300 for 210 euros and a 18-55 P! for 40 euros I was looking for a lighter camera next to my D700 and D300s. The results I am getting are really amazing. I was also thinking about Fuji but I am a rather old school person hating to leave the dslr. How much better is the fuji 18-55 compared to the Nikon is then a relevant question which no one seems to answer.
Hi! Great to hear that you like Nikon D3300. I like it a lot, too. Comparing the Nikon and Fuji kit lenses is a great idea for a future video. Thanks for that idea. Kind regards!
@@Flalgra5 Hi! This is very true. Now's a great time to get the dSLR's - same great quality but such low prices. And you get a great selection of lenses on top of that. And yes, the D3300 and D5600 generate different color. I see quite big differences even between my D3300 and D3400 (ua-cam.com/video/6BsZ_H_JE6k/v-deo.html). Thanks for watching!
I have AF-P both (18-55 VR and 70-300 VR). There is something misleading in your review in first point about buttons on the lens. AF-P have automatic manual override ( its in camera MENU->settings). so you do not need this AF/MF button, much simpler and easy to use, at anytime need manual focus just directly do it (no extra step need or button to be pressed, need autofocus just press again halfway shutter button, I have move focus to 'back button focus' AF-L/AE-L more easy and conviniet ). AF-P probably are clearly better choice if your camera supoprt AF-P lens.
Hi KrazyIvan! Thank you for your feedback. You are right that the lack of a physical button on the lens doesn't mean that you cannot do some things. It's a matter of personal taste. I tend to prefer physical buttons over making changes in the menu or using other alternative solutions. Sometimes, a physical button is advantageous when you want to use a lens on a camera not intended for it. Kind regards!
