- We are excited to welcome 5 new animals to Northumberland this last week. It has been a busy week getting everything ready and ensuring the tropical house was ready for the new Agouti and the world's smallest monkey - the Pygmy Marmoset.
The Tropical House should be opening in the second week of the Easter holidays.

I love agoutis! I love agouti guinea pigs too. I think one of my piggies has a bit of agouti pig in him as he has bits of that same hair texture. I can't wait to try and spot the agoutis when it's all open.
Man I remember working with Pygmy Marmoset's at a zoo in sweden and we had this one marmo called Elvis he was pretty much attached to me whenever I entered his enclosure, was the sweetest lill guy

Those pygmy marmosets are so cute! Cant wait to try and spot both species in the tropical house!
Wow I was super lucky I visited on Tuesday and all 3 lynx boys were out and about, so saw him just before he moved!
One of the lynx also jumped up to a top platform and was calling, I've never heard them do that before, gutted I didn't atch it on video!
The lynx are calling for mates at the minute, they do this once a year at the same time! Ghost is away actually about to meet his mate so thats pretty cool for him.

I was really hoping the unnamed species was going to be Agouti. Keeping everything crossed I can spot them on my next visit. Can I ask why Ghost was chosen over the other boys? Just interested to know what the selection process entails ❤
Great question. Ghost was the most quiet and stand-offish as well as the lower ranking individual of our trio, so it made most sense for him to move out. Jasper has his on-going ear canal issue so it would be unfair to burden another Zoo with that health issue and Shadow is the most confident and our star-boy to work with so we wouldn’t let him go.
Ahh, no more Ghost spotting, eh!!! I hope he’s happy in his new home! 🥹

New arrivals are super cute. Yeah, don’t expose them to excitable kids banging on windows this Easter. If they do it when I’m there, I give their inconsiderate parents allowing it a lecture 🤣👍🏻

Ghost is settling in as we speak which is great news for all involved. The newbies are doing well too, looking forward to welcoming more! We went to listen to a Gordon Buchanan talk last year in Durham and he was signing some prints so had to have some!
