Mr Aaron, You are the MAN!!!! Your video lead me to the EXACT problem with my truck. Just a note: my gear shift started locking into park and I had to turn the ignition 'partically" on to get it into netural, then start the truck,,, then it would shift. A few days later, I noticed as I was hooking up my trailer that I had no brake lights. Long story short, your video lead me to the exact same wire break under my dash. I made the repair like you did and it not only fixed my brake lights, but also, my shifter problem. Apparently, the shifter was a safety result for when the wire broke rendering my brake lights being non functional. Thank You very much!!!!

Thank you so much for this. I had the exact same problem. Wire fatigue caused a break. I would’ve never known this simple fix without your help. I appreciate you taking the time to walk us through. Your explanation of how to troubleshoot and repair was clear and concise.

BINGO! That was exactly what happened in mine. I added a short extension to the wire so as to spread the movement of the wire across a larger loop. I was able to reuse the 90° female spade connector by digging out the old wire and soldering in a 4” extension. Thanks again!

This video was a huge help! Exact same wire broken on the harness and the switch was still good.

The solution for my case was even easier but this video was a great starting point for troubleshooting. I have a 1994 F150 and the brake lights were only coming on when I pushed pretty hard on the brake pedal, not with a lighter touch of the foot. I tilted the bench seat forward and saw 2 sets of wire connectors centered on the floor above the carpeting. I pressed the paired ends of those connectors together to make sure they were tight and the brake lights started coming on with a slight touch of the brake pedal again.

Do you not have to disconnect the battery before unplugging stuff? I got into my
1997 Ford F-150 today brake lights don’t work (all other lights work and turn signals) and it won’t shift whatsoever. Can’t even shift into neutral when I
    Turn the key once.

I thought you were going to start playing "dueling banjos" with the continuity buzzer.

Thanks for the video. I have a 98 F150 and sometimes the brake lights work and sometimes they don't. I am hoping this will fix the problem

Update... in case someone else has the problem that I did. My no brake light situation was because of a loose wire in the steering column. If the tilt wheel was up, I had brake lights, if I moved the tilt steering down into steering position, the brake lights quit. I had the repair done at my local garage, so I don't have anymore details than that

My tail lights or brake lights not coming on. I have an 89 econoline250

If it's parking lights as well, I would start with the fuse and lamps themselves as they should not be affected by the brake switch.

@@aaronsrose Turns out...the sockets were bad. Vot a friend to help me today and we traced electricity all the way to the sockets and found them to not be working properly. Thanks for responding bro
