Visma are obliged to change their kit for the Tour de France, as are EF for the Giro, because of the clash with the leader's jersey. For the last few years, they've had a kit with more black, but never a total transformation like this year. I believe all teams are allowed a change-out kit once a season - I notice Alpecin Deceuninck have gone grey for this year's race to promote a shampoo that, ironically, gets rid of grey
I thought this was the case, too. Also, the yellow in their jersey was from the Jumbo branding which they are not using anymore. It's kinda weird that they still kept it for most of the season so far, but I guess announcing stuff around the TdF generates more buzz.
Yes Emily is correct, they have to change the kit for the Tour because the Yellow is too contrasting. That's why last year they had the more "black/grungy" looking kit. Jimmy talking nonsense :D
The reason Cube bikes are insanely common in Germany is because they have absolutely nailed building a vast dealer network in Germany to a tee. Go into virtually any unbranded bike shop here and 2/3 of the bikes there will be Cubes. In a lot of shops, a Cube bike is basically the only option if your budget is above hardware store bike and below boutique brand bike. Canyon, Rose, Stevens, Focus or dozens of more artisanal brands are also popular among enthusiasts, but the average German consumer never even comes in contact with them in the first place.
As someone recently diagnosed with Parkinson's (yay tremors and muscle stiffness) I adore boa fasteners. Much faster for me than lacing, more secure fit than velco. I'm with Francis on this!
Re: that shimano patent: bosch already has ABS for bikes (derived from their motorcycle systems), eletronic braking isn't about ultimate power (a cargo bike with 200+ rotors can already lock both wheels p easily), it's about (maintaining) control during emergency braking. If shimano's system isn't ABS/stability control oriented there's literally no point. The UK have fewer commuting/cargo ebikes because your drivers and infrastructure are insane, not because the rules are different. Pedelecs are 250w everywhere.
I just want to say that I love how you all don't take yourselves too seriously. It's a refreshing thing to see and hear in the world of cycling media. Thanks for doing what you do!
@Emily: You are a top-shelf Producer. Jimmy mentioned in the last video he does "Jimmy Adjustments" to bikes. This would be a perfect segment to show what else around the shop, the house, the car and such where he applies "Jimmy Adjustments" and hilarity ensues, Cheers from central Texas.
Thanks for the comprehensive answer to my question 👍👍I now have to change my chain set because you've said so ☺️. Thanks Jimmy for saying that the hills are brutal round here, they are and now I feel validated. Just to say also that I've since discovered that the bike was advertised with the chain set I bought, I just didn't know what it meant back then. The spec on 99 spokes is different. Also if you guys and Emily are ever in Snowdonia again, check out Marchlyn Mawr reservoir, brilliant tarmac traffic free hill climb above Llanberis! Hoping I'll be doing it faster soon with my new chain set!🎉🚴♀️🚴♀️ Oh and to answer your question, I wasn't keeping up with my friends before, I have got stronger and faster, but so have they and my 17 year old daughter...I do not have a chance😅
Love the pod guys, World Tour teams can swap their kit 3 (!) times in a season from start of 2024 which is madness as it costs a fortune each time you do it as you generally have to swap helmets, bikes etc so I don't think many teams will be doing that. Big boss man Jim loves our kit so much this season that we decided to not swap for the Tour. (INEOS Grenadiers designer - Dave Eck)
If you've noticed in the first two days of the current TdF, some of the spare bikes for Visma are still yellow and black. Some changes take more time, I guess.
@@popgunandy I hadn't spotted that. I'd say overall Visma have done a good job of branding up most of the assets in TDF colours but yeah, stuff like 1st, 2nd and 3rd bikes for each rider can just be a step too far.
Hi Guys, First of all - love the podcast, keep up the great quality. Regarding the Cervélo & Focus bikes in the UK - I am a semi-professional bike builder from the Netherlands with the focus on building custom S5's and I actually get all my parts from the UK PON Bike distributor "Jungle Products" in North Yorkshire. It does look now however that they pulled the "Focus" brand from the UK.
Local to you guys, up until a couple of years ago (shop purchased by Specialized) Infinity Cycles in Durham had a separate Cube store and they were very popular. They also stocked Focus and Orbea over the years 👍
1. Colnago 2. Look 3. The rest 4. Enve (because it looks like a sit up and beg bike with the length of that head tube. You’d have to make a -30 stem for anyone vaguely athletic to fit on it).
Kudos to Jimmy for his commentary around EF. I feel like the the Red Bull bike is going to do a similar job, but EF has been the only team injecting thought, design, marketing prowess - overall life - into the sport, that can connect outside of cycling.

I love summer! First there's the daily Tour Divide update from Josh Ibbet and then you're doing daily podcasts for the Tour de France.
Love the banter in these sessions. If possible I watch them before work. Just gets me into a good mood. Well done. Custom frame bags - brilliant. I got one made for an end to end ride in the UK plus another week of riding around some remote areas of Scotland. I was able to design a slim full size map pocket for my bag that the guy who runs Shaka Packs here in Canada (shout out for Shaka) loved - and incorporated for me. Can't do that with off the shelf stuff. I love the local cottage industry custom bag makers who have an independent streak and true passion.
The automatic pressure adjust for car tires already exists afaik. Can be found on specific offroad vehicles. There you can just adjust tire pressure without leaving the driver's seat to fit the surface you're driving on.
My daughter’s first pedal bike (at about 3.5) was a Cube. It was pretty good - a properly made little bike with proper components. Got it from Rutland Cycling who are a large chain in the east and the midlands and used to sell quite a bit of Cube stuff but dont think they do anymore. Its huge in Germany though.
I've spent about $500 in the pursuit of a saddle I can ride for more than 2-3 hours. I finally found a NOS "touring " saddle from the 1990s and bought 5 of them. Also have a box of lightly used rejects If this actually works, it's a bargain.
@domestique3954 The mew ones are Avocet gel TouringW saddles. The most recent rejects SMP womens touring. I have very wide sit bones for a man. And I also have a nerve on the medial side of my left sit bone. I have to aim the nose 15 degrees to the right.
you need to look at the UAE Colnagoedition this year again... blue and gold looks nice, also the flowers are a nice touch.. serialized... impossible to buy probably but sure looks nice
Regarding lace-up shoes Laces are more aero if you are into that sort of thing I find them more comfortable than pad due to having various points of contact that secure your foot, as opposed to 1 or 2 with boas. Now regarding the need to tighten or loosen. I race laces ups for MTB, gravel, road, CX and TT, I have never felt the need to tighten or loosen my laces. Good stuff. Also agree with your thoughts re. EF team-I really like what they are doing. On a music note..I was on holiday with my parents on the Isle of Wight the week before Jimi Hendrix played there. Had to go home to start college,so missed his last gig. On reflection, would have got a great deal more from attending that festival than going to college that year!!!
Emily is right about the loyalty factor on the Bianchis, I myself own a 2021 specialissima. However this bike right here is the reason a lot of us owners are looking at different brands now.
The paint job gestapo are getting out of hand. That Orbea is beautiful. Always advocate for less branding bollocks on frames, simple graphics that flow with the shape of the frame and compliment the rider's kit.
It would be cool to see your reviews of different brands, like Cube. I bought a Cube mountain bike from CRC in 2009 or 2010 and loved it. My recent road bike purchase probably would have been a Cube, but they're hard to come by in the states too (hence purchasing from CRC and paying crazy shipping to get one); and I couldn't pass up the deal I found on a NOS Orbea which was able to meet all my requirements.
About BOA laces: while I certainly do love them, I find elastic laces that turn your shoe into a slip-on works just as well if you're not the type to pull on the upstroke when pedaling.
Road vehicles with 'portal' axles can use what the military Humvees call 'CTIS' which is 'Central Tyre Inflation System'. I've thought about using tiny battery powered pumps on my mountain bike tyre valves, it was the pressure sensor I was struggling to solve... along with the remote switching.
One thing that gets me about getting more people on bikes, not enough is promoted about cycle to work schemes. I think most companies should offer this to their employees. The company I work for has this and its been great. Im pretty certain the limit has now been lifted too. I picked up my Orbea Orca. I saved 20% over the year on the overall price. I also use it to get consumables, chains, cassettes, etc. I even got my Garmin Varia! Great scheme basically.
Up in Edinburgh you see a lot of CUBE bikes as there are some cool smaller dealers for them, but you see nothing as much as Genesis bikes, especially the Croix de Fer. It’d be cool to see some videos on these!
As for the TdF kit color change -- back in the day, Once (which had predominantly yellow kit) would change up the TdF kit to a pink scheme and got a lot of publicity for it. Pretty soon, the other teams and clothing manufacturers jumped on for the pre tour hype.
The paint style yall are trying to describe on the Cube is called "Bowling Ball" . We use it in the custom car culture in the states. It's very easy to do.
First through when i saw that saddle a few days ago was that's going to 1, squeak within the first year and 2, going to start rocking on worn pivots by year 2

I see lots of Cube and a few Orbeas here in Glos 'cos Leisure Lakes sell 'em. I think they used to do Focus too. I don't like the look of most of those pro bikes but I did agree with your bottom two! And the top one too, if you ignore the presumably astronomical price ...
I use the non-custom molded version of Fiziks 3D printed saddle. It's fantastic, 2nd one I've owned. I also have the same saddle in the non-adaptive version. It's really good too. So maybe Fizik saddles are just really good.
I think for roadbikes most of the pressure on the sadle is relieved from the power generated in your legs. Also what would happen when you do an out of the sadle sprint and then sit down with the saddle pointing in the wrong way or when going in aa TT position?
59:50 Bolt diameter is the same on all 4-arms Shimano cranks (11s and 12s). Also, even tho Shimano says no, on most bikes (but not all), 52/34 chainrings are compatible.
In your car if you're rolling without the ignition on and you try and steer or stop you will feel how useful systems like electronically assisted braking are when they're available. ABS is already a thing for bikes. Bosch do it. Also, come to Australia if you want a Cube, Focus or Orbea. Readily available.
32:13 the picture of the rs4r used is from an article teasing the 2024 pro bike for UAE speaking of the pro bike for the 2024 season, it does indeed have the 3 enve stickers on both wheels, so I guess the rating is slightly unfair.
half of these paintjobs were from last year's tour. the new silver TCR from jayco alula or the white/red/blue wilier verticale from DSM are beautiful bikes
There are plenty of Cubes in the UK, I ride one and see many others out and about. It’s just like when you buy a new car, suddenly you notice them on the road all the time.
As an Enve owner… I completely agree that it’s a 10. 😅 Also… if you look a little closer at the team bike, there’s some beautiful colour details (it’s not all black)
58:24 yes, change your chainset. Getting stronger isn’t as easy nor is it as straight forward as it seems. There are times life and/or work gets in your way. There are times you fall sick. Coming back after a week or two from life/work/illness/injury is not easy. Therefore, get the easier gears. Cheers.
re: Electronic brakes on cars ... nah they're still mostly hydraulic. Sure, ABS and Stability Control are computer driven systems to modulate the brakes and keep the car under control, but the pedal is still typically a lever that is directly operating the hydraulics of the brake via the brake booster (a hydraulic amplifier). F1 has 'brake by wire' however (without ABS or stability control systems which are banned), and probably some really high end cars too. But most cars aren't. Some 4WDs have in-cabin tyre pressure adjustment for when you move off the road onto soft dirt and back.
I'm not entirely sure about this saddle for one big reason -- the revelation I've had in the past 36 hours about Q-factor and stance. I swapped out my beloved Dura-Ace 7810 pedals, with their 52mm crank-face-to-center measurement, for Ultegra PD-R8000E1 pedals, with a 57mm crank-face-to-center, after deciding the Favero Duo-Shi was simply likely to be too much. **Amazing -- my butt does not get numb on the saddle with these pedals**. My legs feel massively far apart like a hurricane could blow up my ass at any minute, but I'm going faster despite allegedly lower VO2 max following a bad reaction to a medication.
About prototype equipment. It must be approved by UCI to be used in races, after that it's allowed to be used if will be commercially available within a time frame since the first use (I do not remember if it's a year or 6 months)
This show is better than GCN… Now I can listen to TdF analysis without needing to listen to Lance Armstrong every day, great! Emily is such a nice woman and when she brings out the Pudel she reaches top marks! My wife and I have a Pudel as well…love dogs!
But also. What a great show. Not this episode, every one. Really relatable, personable, humorous, sarcy. I definitely don’t agree with a lot of what you say; that Enve bike was proper meh, but I feel like I could do an hour of Wild Ones most nights. Thanks.
Laces in Cyclingshoes work prettey well for me. Although i hate the ends/loops of the laces flying around, thats why i knot the laces maybe once in a month in skateboarding style under the tongue and it works perfectly. I am using my specialized 2FO shoes for over a year almost daily as a bike messenger and never hat any issues with laces and can slip in my shoes by just using my thumb to slide in For Hailey, always choose easier gears! You can go over 69,7km/h with 50/11 with 120rpm or faster downhill if you pedal hard and fast enough. having a 52tooth chainring just makes you 2,8km/h faster at the same cadence. But having a 1:1 ratio in low gears which means 34t in the back and front instead of 34t in the back and 36 is a much more significant change in terms of how hard you have to pedal. If you keep on regularly spinning out at over 70kmh than stay on 52/36 chainset
the blue of the cervelo reminded me on the wilier team astana blue. i think both bikes look great. so the cube looks great too of cause. good that all of them are to expensive to realy thinking about getting them.
Re Cube: Love my Cube Ciclocross bike and my 12 year old Orbea Alma! And on the subject of Cervelo. Do pro riders pay attention to bikes colours in the heat of battle? In which case there needs to be a rule (like football or rugby) where kits are deliberately different to save confusion.
Bike rating - Producer Emily is bang on about the ENVE scheme being boring. Though I agree with the logos (reflectors in my case) being split in thirds.
Cube are massive in Germany. And you get a lot of bike for your money. Got a Cube Stereo. Oh and an Orbea Orca before they were freely available in the Uk and Ireland territories. Paid €3000 for M20i with full Dura-ace back in 2015. An Ultegra M20 was over €4500 back home and UK quoted nearly five grand sterling for mostly Ultegra with a crummy wheel set and it wasn’t even the top carbon frame layup

Boa's; massively underrated. I got some on temu for less than $2 for my running shoes. It's been magical.
12:25 best argument
Mate has a Cube. Not seen anyone else in UK on one. Nice bike though. We went to Mallorca: everyone rides a Cube
I'm worried about how the seat rotated when not pedaling. What keeps it from dumping you out of the saddle when you stop your bike?
I see lots of Cube and a few Orbeas here in Glos 'cos Leisure Lakes sell 'em. I think they used to do Focus too. I don't like the look of most of those pro bikes but I did agree with your bottom two! And the top one too, if you ignore the presumably astronomical price ...
I use the non-custom molded version of Fiziks 3D printed saddle. It's fantastic, 2nd one I've owned. I also have the same saddle in the non-adaptive version. It's really good too. So maybe Fizik saddles are just really good.
23:41 Visma-Lease a colour way 😂
I think for roadbikes most of the pressure on the sadle is relieved from the power generated in your legs.
32:13 the picture of the rs4r used is from an article teasing the 2024 pro bike for UAE
speaking of the pro bike for the 2024 season, it does indeed have the 3 enve stickers on both wheels, so I guess the rating is slightly unfair.
Emily, the voice of reason!!!
half of these paintjobs were from last year's tour. the new silver TCR from jayco alula or the white/red/blue wilier verticale from DSM are beautiful bikes
There are plenty of Cubes in the UK, I ride one and see many others out and about. It’s just like when you buy a new car, suddenly you notice them on the road all the time.
As an Enve owner… I completely agree that it’s a 10.
😅
Also… if you look a little closer at the team bike, there’s some beautiful colour details (it’s not all black)
I love my Cube, it got me into cycling and was well priced compared to the competition and looked so much better than the rest
That factor bike booked great yall are craaayzyy
Emily's voice is heaven 💯
Honda have had onboard adjustable tyre pressures for over 25 years on their Goldwing motorcycle!
About prototype equipment.
It must be approved by UCI to be used in races, after that it's allowed to be used if will be commercially available within a time frame since the first use (I do not remember if it's a year or 6 months)
This show is better than GCN…
Now I can listen to TdF analysis without needing to listen to Lance Armstrong every day, great!
Emily is such a nice woman and when she brings out the Pudel she reaches top marks! My wife and I have a Pudel as well…love dogs!
The 52/46 is obviously a typo - it’s going to be 52/36.
I have both - when I ride the (2 or 3%) higher gears up the same hill I’m just faster.
IIRC, the Hummer H1 can inflate/deflate its tires.
Best you come to Dereham in Norfolk we have Cube and Orbea independent retailers just a few hundred metres apart.
And yes I own 2 Cube's.
Could you talk about other weird saddles, like the Infinity seat, Airo, and Manta?
But also.
What a great show. Not this episode, every one. Really relatable, personable, humorous, sarcy.
I definitely don’t agree with a lot of what you say; that Enve bike was proper meh, but I feel like I could do an hour of Wild Ones most nights. Thanks.
You need to update this to show off the changes to the bikes (UAE) and personalised bikes like the one Cav will use.
Laces in Cyclingshoes work prettey well for me. Although i hate the ends/loops of the laces flying around, thats why i knot the laces maybe once in a month in skateboarding style under the tongue and it works perfectly. I am using my specialized 2FO shoes for over a year almost daily as a bike messenger and never hat any issues with laces and can slip in my shoes by just using my thumb to slide in
For Hailey, always choose easier gears!
There is brake "assist" using electricery such as abs but the hydraulic system is just modified by the electronics not replaced by....
Cube are here in the uk! My local bike shop is a supplier - they have some nice stuff
Super interested in this new saddle concept and would definitely love to see a review of yours
the blue of the cervelo reminded me on the wilier team astana blue. i think both bikes look great. so the cube looks great too of cause. good that all of them are to expensive to realy thinking about getting them.
Wild Ones Pro Show - Vuelta Edition PLEASE!
A lot of offroad vehicles (not everyday cars) have tyre pressure control devixes that can inflate and deflate tyres on the move.
Banana boat +aloe vera for all your sun/burns it really hits the spot for much needed relief.
Needed to wait a little bit longer. Seeing all new paint for the pro teams on insta today!
I've seen this picture of the cube bike more than all other images & references of cube!
