This is exactly what I was looking for instead of all the one use vinyl stencils. Thank you so much for taking the time to film this and explain things so well and in depth!
Thank you, this is so much more cost effective. I have a Cameo but was using more expensive plastic that didn’t always cut and that would be wasted material and money.
I just got a Silhouette Cameo 3 (a little late to the party) and your video was a great help. One thing I've learned from watching non-stop tutorials is to use painters tape to pick up those little 'bits' from the cutting mat. Just cover the whole thing in painters tape (the wider the tape the faster this goes), press it down firmly with the smoothing tool, then peel it off as one piece. It really picks up all the bits! Cheers!
Overhead projector sheets works great also I use them for my stencils this is a great idea for an alternative because sometimes I can’t find the projector sheets
Thanks for the settings, need to dust off my cameo. You should just put the cutting mat in a big ziplock bag and then scrape them off. Works like a charm and saves all the little pieces. The shapes would be good to save bcuz you can make your own embellishments by just using gesso to cover the plastic and then paint or use clear glue with irridescent glitter for double duty with the butterflies and honeycomb parts for flower centers. Just a thought!
Lindsey, I dusted off my Silhouette Cameo after your last video and now THIS! You explain things so well, so I think I may be able to do this. Thank you so much for these. Keep ‘em coming.
Thank you so much for this video! I seen someone make stencils to make coffee art. I wanted to try it on my channel, but couldn't find the correct material for the cameo. You're a lifesaver!
I do the same, I first used a soldering iron and a piece of glass and just printed out the design I made. My cricut has made it easier and quicker but I like to do both.
I found this video extremely informative. Thank you so much. I'm a card maker and would love to incorporate more stenciling into my cards this is useful!!!
Lindsey, I make stencils from cereal boxes and then use the stencils to make hand cut stamps from a product called roll rubber roofing. It's basically like a sheet of easy to cut rubber .Basically a scrap from a roofing job on a house (The product comes in huge rolls like 12 x 24 feet etc ,,It acts as a moisture barrier for a roof .) .craft foam is nice for stamps too but soak up a lot of ink ..I mount these rubber stamps on craft foam and scraps of maple wood scraps from a local cabinet shop. How ever lately i use a notebook and an acrylic block or frame /plate to print with . wow My methods are so primitive lolol
WOW!Thats so cool.Way out of my crafting rang but I would so love to try. Thank you for teaching you have a lot of talent thanks agin for sharing.😊😊👏🏻💕
You could use the extra pieces to put inside shaker cards. I was wasting money on things to fill my cards and then I happened to make a stencil for a card and thought I wonder if these will work and if they are small enough they work great!
love love love this vid!! thank you for sharing :D .... instead of throwing away all those pieces what about donating them to a primary school for art class ?
I want to buy a Silhouette Cameo for making stencils. I went through some tutorials on YT but this one is far the best of the tens I watched. Thank you very much for sharing. I have some questions (I hope you find time to answer them, the video is already nearly two years old). If you buy the stencil templates (files) do they come per e-mail or are they to download after paying the fee? What extension do the files have? What are you allowed to do with the files? Only print them once for own use? Or is it possible to print them out more times and even sell them (not the files itself, only the stencils? Is it possible to choose a part of the stencil file (for example one or two butterflies) and enlarge that to the measurements you want to have? Is it possible to create your own stencils? What kind of program is needed for that? If you covered all these questions in one of your other videos, please send a link to them. I'm first time at your channel today. Thanks in advance for answering my questions.
The files should automatically download into the program unless your settings are set differently. The file extensions are unique to Silhouette so only can be used in that program. But you can use them as many times as you want once you’ve purchased. You do need to purchase a license if you plan on using them for selling items which can be done in the Silhouette shop. You can “ungroup” file shapes and manipulate the pieces as needed. Check out the Silhouette School Blog where there is lots of info for things like this. You could probably use the Silhouette program to create your own stencil templates if they are simple but you can also use something like Adobe Illustrator to make more complicated SVG files. Hope this helps!
I didn’t use any opaque template 🤔 In the very beginning of the video I explain that I’m using tab dividers that I buy from Target and just cut off the tab and holes.
Cut off the tab " yes " cut off the folder holes " No ". Reason being you can put them into a folder just for Stencils and not having them being all over the place or putting them into a plastic cover and where they will get damaged.
Yes, that would work except I try and get several designs on one sheet and I find it easier if they are all separate from each other when I go to use them.
I use the default cut from my silhouette cameo 3 while using the index dividers and it just shreds the dividers and makes a mess anything else I can do
Make sure you have a sharp blade and you may need to adjust the settings. Every machine is a smidge different so you might need to play around with speed and pressure.
I didn't do the feathers any differently than the other stencils. The trick to letters is that you have to create a rectangular shape that creates a sort of "bridge" between the middle piece and the edge of the letter and then weld the shapes together. This bridge is what holds the centers to the letters but you will be able to see that bridge in your final stencil design so just keep that in mind when you are setting it up.
This was super excellent, thank you so much! Just got my brand new machine hooked up. :-) Now I could use a video on... showing how you put the stencil material in the machine, what if anything you do to the rollers, etc. I have never done this before! Thank you very much for the tips on cheap material -- I would also like to try using 20lb computer paper or card stock since like you, I'd much prefer a large variety. Just don't see myself using any of them more than a few times. Bonus, since they're going on a gelli plate, even the paper stencils can be cut up for colleges in the art journal. If you want more video ideas for newbs... Doubtful if I buy anything from the store, am planning on making my own in PaintShopPro, so not sure what needs to be done as far as softening the edges, etc, or how to convert a jpeg into whatever format the Silhouette will cut. Anyway, thanks again, your video helped tremendously. :-)
I just my niece's silhouette cameo ~ what I want to do is stencil words and use the stencil on wood !!! What type of material should I use for stencil ? Helpful tips for a newbie?!
I use white Duck Brand shelf liner and then use transfer tape to transfer it to the wood surface. Checkout the Silhouette Blog for lots of helpful tutorials 😉
Have you used these stencils on wood with paint? Was there a lot of bleeds? I normally use contact paper to make stencils but you can not use them to many times.
I’ve used them on small wood projects but have only used contact paper for bigger projects. You might be able to spray some Pixie Spray Glue on the back to get a better outcome
@@LindseyDecor yes I was thinking adhesive spray might help. The check contact paper type I've been using tend to bleed after a few uses which is expected. But I wanted to make something that I can pull out and use whenever. Thanks.
Hello, I’m considering buying a silhouette cameo but I only currently have and use an iPad Pro as my only laptop right now. Will this work with an iPad because I don’t want to have to buy a laptop for it ? Thanks in advance.
beginner here. I have the dividers and the machine 4. When I go to send it says I have the wrong cutters. I have what they sent me with the new box that had extras. I have a kraft cutter. What do I do?
Did you make sure that it’s set to the right medium before you sent it to be cut? You may have to adjust the settings since the Cameo 4 is a little more sensitive than the machine I used for this tutorial.
When I added the stencils into my library on Silhouette Studio, in the library it shows their cut file image instead of the colors like it shows on your library and in the store. Any idea why?
@@LindseyDecor Well Gid On It girl friend! You never know, it just may be the thing that ends the Ukrainian War and prevents Global Thermo Nuclear Holocaust! That, and I'd like to paint my dog!

I think that would take a lot more skill than I have and time to make a stencil like that. It would be much easier to find an image and trace it into your Bible.

@@LindseyDecor Also, you said something about transparent sticky stencil materials, I think it was you. What is that and where do I get some? I'm not sure it was you but if it was I would appreciate the information. Thanks

Excelente you are best This my first stencil and I can do it 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Idea? Maybe those 'bits' you toss, have you thought about saving them & giving them to a craft circle at your church or senior citizen center?
They aren’t really anything worth saving. They are too thin to work well as shaker bits and the static makes them cling to everything.
Wish Cricut studio had these! They only have a few stencils...tfs 🙏🏻
