You've put a lot of time, money and effort into this truck Kev. So it's good that it runs well, how you like it.
I'm not sure how many other people out there would be as determined/patient when trying to make the truck better.

A few of us are fully upgrading the Ryft. It's $1200 or more in upgrades but it is well worth it.
I reckon this would go really well in the mud!

So it's good for nothing ultimately. Rock bouncing is just uncontrolled crawling . I can see this RC car being discontinued soon. Who wants to replace practically everything to have a functioning RC car ? Yes upgrades are a great part of the hobby but for a rig of this price I expect better out of the box. In my eyes it's practically useless apart from watching it writhe about uncontrollably off every jump.

So I just roughly totalled up the cost of the Ryft and all the current parts Kev has fitted to it (from my understanding)
The total comes to at least $1,732, this is of course not including the previous upgrades Kev has fitted and broken/removed over time.
So we're easily looking at over $2k to get it to this point. It's depressing thinking about it really, to any sane person this is lunacy, but we all know Kev is not sane which is why this monstrosity exists. You could easily afford a fully kitted out X-maxx and still have some change left over.
All in the name of entertainment and "science" :D you nutter Kev. Love your content :)

A friend of mine put a huge brushless motor in his home made rock crawler back before there were crawler kits. I literally fell down laughing and almost wet myself. It could flip itself over with even moving forward. Left ruts in our track. It was insane! Good times.
I think Kev's idea of "crawling" and mine are quite different. Still looks fun though!

I know they aren't the best crawler but it's my first hobby grade RC and I'm so damn interested to see what you would do with one! Also pretty impressive little machine for the price. Cheers!

Hey kev, most monster trucks have a plexy glass floor so they can see where they are going when popping wheelies.
It has it but is covered by a sticker so it isn’t damaged while building it

Hey Kevin. How much of a spacer did you have tu use to get the motor to clear the chassis and the one link? Did you have to rotate the motor at all or is it just a super tight fit. Having trouble with mine.
Yeah its epic now, after spending $500 on the kit and probably $2000 in upgrades. It better be epic!!

Such a cool rig! I've had my eye on a Ryft for a while but your previous vids did a great job of showing its weaknesses. The 2 speed transmission is a must it seems. I may bite the bullet and buy one and the 2 speed.

I bought the kit, built it, and a week later they dropped the price by 120$ i was kinda salty about that, but i love the 2 speed, and have been having a blast with it

The ryft will always be one of my favorites. Everyone complained about them originally but I actually never broke a stock part.

Omg on 6s that things gonna absolutely rip!!! I do want an Axial Ryft but it’s not at the top of my list yet. That thing sure looks like it can take a proper beating now! 👊👊👍👍
I built mine as soon as the Ryft kit came out, with all the Treal upgrades. Installed a Hobbywing XR8 Plus 2250kv motor & ESC combo and run it on 6S (2 x Gens Ace 3S 4300mah LiPo). I made almost the exact same modifications that Kev did to get the 1/8 scale motor to fit.
2nd gear on 6S is completely insane. Totally worth it :)

I’m new to this and really like the ryft cuz I feel like if it’s built like you did it it’s the best of both worlds with speed and crawling they have a sensored version for like 200 less than the regular if I’m gonna replace everything it would be better to buy that one right? Or is the anything els different on it besides the sensored engin

I refuse to buy a car where you have to replace everything but the chassis out of the box to make it reliable

The ryft is far from the worst rc. I love mine. I've never broken the first stock part but it does happen to have EVERY vitavon part offered now

Kev what gearing were you running on the slate system?I can't get a good gear mesh.
If you use the aux wire and program full drag brake in low gear. It will crawl heaps better. Low end resolution is goes up with more drag brake in the castle esc's

I don't have one, but someone in my club does. I have had a vaterra twin hammers for ~5 years now, which is a very similar rig. In my opinion, horizon really screwed up with this truck, they were selling a much better RTR truck years ago with the twin hammers that didn't need this level of modification just to be runnable. That being said, the combo crawler/basher is seriously fun to drive. They definitely aren't the best at anything, you can easily get better performance with 2 separate trucks, but having 1 truck that does both reasonably well is tons of fun to take out hiking. I don't know if it's necessary to go quite as ham as kevin did, but the guy in my club only ran his on the stock motor once before upgrading to brushless. I don't remember what he is running, but he had the exact same problem with cogging and ditched the stock motor right away.
Keep in mind it would cost a lot

I'd like to cut the switch off mine as well but if I do that can you still calibrat the esc to the transmitter? Since it has the set button on it idk how to calibrate it without.
A Holmes Hobbies puller pro xl would have been the perfect motor. Run one in my Yeti. Absolutely rips and smooth low speed
How do yo get the shift fork not to bind up when installing the two speed transmission?

I just recently purchased the axe system. Found the same issue. Changed the throttle ramp setting in the esc. Issue fixed. Level 9 is instant POWER!

Cool. I shimmed up my Castle 2400KV using SCX24 spacers from an axle widening kit. The parts nobody uses because you replace them with brass. No cutting required.
Hello everyone, I am just wondering: I got a Tamiya Neo scorcher (on the TT02B chassis) for Christmas and don't get me wrong, it's a great car but I am looking to put a bit more oomf In it ( its a bit slow) so please can someone recommend a brushless motor for It.

I still think this is one of the most pointless RCs ever made and not in a good way like some stupid RCs are.
I'd rather have a Summit TBH even if they can't handle a super powerful brushless. Still a better all rounder.

Very beautiful, but I recommend another desert truk that I bought and it was a good experience: the dune thunder.
